Call for Participation and Draft Agenda 1 Eighth Youth Peace Ambassador International (YPA8) Abuja, Nigeria 7-11 July 2014 Co-organizers: Special Adviser to the President on Ethics and Values of Nigeria, Eubios Ethics Institute, American University of Sovereign Nations (AUSN) and Youth Peace Ambassadors (YPA) International Call for Participation We invite you and your organization to join the Youth Peace Ambassadors International in building peace in the Nigeria and the world through empowering youth to share experiences of working to promote good values and ethics, the culture of peace and to develop practical action plans with the inspiration of the young people. Since 2010, Eubios Ethics Institute, in cooperation with partner institutions have organized seven Youth Peace Ambassador Training Workshops with 600 youth from many countries and circumstances. Together, the youth have worked to identify issues that can promote a culture of peace, and developed 220 action projects promoted at making a difference in their communities. 2 Through the Youth Peace Ambassador International Programme, we are jointly harnessing the power, optimism and influence of young people to promote action and change for Peace. promoting good values, ethics and integrity as tools to peaceful national development. There have been only a few Nigerian trainees of YPA so far, in the Trainings with have taken place in Hiroshima, Japan; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Penang, Malaysia; Etajima, Japan; Bangkok and Kaeng Krachan, Thailand; London, England; and Kathmandu, Nepal. In order to empower youth from all 109 Senatorial districts of Nigeria, and to bring together some of the many groups working for Peace in Nigeria, we hold YPA8 in Abuja. We also hope that this venue will be more accessible for our African friends. The outcomes you could help achieve include: Strengthening the youth peace ambassador network of young people to a more global forum for the exchange of ideas and good practices for effecting social change for peace. ; Reducing the suffering from conflicts and violence; Broadening aspects of participant life plans from a multicultural perspective; Support for specific youth-led projects to be implemented in different countries; Expand the integration of security and peace activities into policy making, with special relevance to young persons; Promoting ethics and values of all citizens through youth empowerment; The programme is especially for young citizens who have already started to make a difference in their community to overcoming the challenges for their communities, and persons who are actually doing things to rebuild communities. Development towards everyone drafting their own action plans (groups and individuals) with training sessions by faculty include: - Funding bid and Proposal writing, - Lobbying leaders for actions, project management & implementation, - Team building, - Recruiting volunteer(s) and support for project delivery Action Plan Development and Presentations We expect approximately 50 action plans from 150 participants to be developed, with a draft presentation, revisions and then shorter more formal final presentations during the workshop. All participants will be expected to prepare a written action plan for follow-up, with linkages to their communities. Closing Session.
