2008-09 Women s Team m Navy s Class of 2009 Back Row (L-R) Jennie Spencer, Desiree Robison, Carmen Meier; Front Row (L-R): Team Captain Erika Hubbard, Lauren Milliron, Clare McKenna. 11

2008-09 Women s Team Season Outlook Overall Outlook Returners 21 of 27 2008 letter winners 396.5 of 493 individual event points scored at the 2008 Patriot League Meet Newcomers Navy welcomes 12 newcomers to its program John Morrison on the Overall Outlook We are coming off an outstanding 2007-08 campaign. Our team experienced several great annual moments during the course of the year, including our 19th consecutive victory over Army, a strong battle for our conference championship, and re-writing the record boards. Our team also achieved program highs with Thuy-Mi Dinh representing Navy at Division I NCAA Championship, with Dinh and Mallory Dietrich also taking part in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Our 2007-08 season raised the bar for our program, and our 2008-09 team is inspired to push it higher. Navy Notes Navy enjoyed one of its best regular seasons in school history last year as the team tied the school standards for the most wins and the highest winning percentage (13-1, 92.9%) in program history... the majority of the pieces to the puzzle that led to the success of last year s team return for the Mids this season... the returning swimmers who hold Navy individual event records includes Jennie Spencer (200 back), Mallory Dietrich (100 breast, 100 fly), Kelly Zahalka (200 fly, 400 IM), Thuy-Mi Dinh (50 free, 100 free) and Tara Chapmon (200 free, 500 free, 1000 free, 1650 free)... returning swimmers have totaled 39 Patriot League individual event or relay titles over their careers. Breaststroke Returners Allison Aichele 13th in 200 breast at 08 PL Meet Mallory Dietrich won both breast events at 08 PL Meet; Navy 100 breast record holder (1:02.94) Sarah Duffy top 100 breast time last year was at PL Meet (1:11.61) Stephanie Hebda best 100 breast time is 1:14.01 Erika Hubbard best 200 breast time is 2:31.37 Tessa Snow 5th in 200 breast, 16th in 100 breast at 08 ECAC Meet Kelly Zahalka top 200 breast time is 2:27.36 Newcomers Alicia Gaidry m Team Captain Erika Hubbard m Mallory Dietrich John Morrison on the Breaststroke This was by far our weakest event last year, especially the 100 breaststroke. The return of Mallory Dietrich, the Patriot League and Navy record holder in the 100 breast, will quickly mend this event. Our 200 breaststroke will continue to improve as upperclassmen Erika Hubbard, Allison Aichele, Tessa Snow and Sarah Duffy will remain strong in this event. Breaststroke Notes Mallory Dietrich missed the majority of last season due to an injury... Dietrich recovered in time to compete in the 100 breast at the U.S. Olympic Trials... Tessa Snow showed a great deal of potential by placing fifth in the 200 breast and 16th in the 100 breast at the ECAC Championship. Backstroke Returners Natalie Albertson 13th at 08 PL Meet in 200 back Brooke Besche competed in the 100 back once during the 2007-08 season Tara Chapmon top 200 back time is 2:07.03 Thuy-Mi Dinh 3rd at 08 PL Meet in 100 back Allison Ranzau Navy s fastest 200 back time last year Jennie Spencer holds Navy s 200 back record Newcomers Sarah Lindberg John Morrison on the Backstroke Backstroke is an event that took a hit by graduation. However, we still have school record holder Jennie Spencer pushing her way back to the top following surgery last season. Additionally, we will look to sophomore Allison Ranzau to improve upon where she left off one year ago in the 200 backstroke. Natalie Albertson will continue to improve in hopes of another great finish this season, while freshman Sarah Lindberg will add instant firepower to this event in the 100 and 200 distances. Backstroke Notes Despite not being at full strength last year, Jennie Spencer still placed fifth in the 200 back and ninth in the 100 back at last year s Patriot League Meet... previously, she totaled three secondplace showings and a third-place finish in the backstroke events at the 2006 and 07 league meets... Allison Ranzau was second in the 200 back at last year s championship, with Dinh placing third in the 100 back... Dinh previously placed fourth in the 100 back at the 07 meet. Butterfly Returners Brooke Besche competed in the 100 fly once during the 2007-08 season Mallory Dietrich Navy record holder in 100 fly (55.77) Clare McKenna scored points in 200 fly at 07 & 08 PL Meets Kalea Middendorf 3rd in 200 fly, 7th in 100 fly at 07 PL Meet Claire Miller best 100 fly time is 1:04.14 Lauren Milliron tied career-best 100 fly time of m Mallory Dietrich 1:00.63 at 08 PL Meet Colleen Quinn best 100 fly time is 1:00.20 Cate Sheerin only Mid to score in both fly events at 08 PL Meet Tessa Snow 5th in 200 fly at 08 PL Meet Annika Thomas top-10 placings in 200 fly at 07 and 8 PL Meets Kelly Zahalka has Navy s 200 fly record (2:02.77); 07 & 08 league titlist in event Newcomers Sarah Freshwater Tracy Fridye Katherine Jones Kelly Reightler m Jennie Spencer John Morrison on the Butterfly In the 200 butterfly, league champion and team record holder Kelly Zahalka will make this event solid for us. She will be backed up by returners Kalea Middendorf, Annika Thomas and Tessa Snow. Mallory Dietrich will return to the lineup this year and pick up where she left off as Navy s all-time best in the 100 fly. Mallory will be joined by fellow junior Colleen Quinn and freshmen Sarah Freshwater and Kelly Reightler to solidify our sprint fly event. Butterfly Notes Navy returns both of its record holders in the fly events... Mallory Dietrich has posted Navy s top 100 fly time, while Kelly Zahalka holds the school standard in the 200 fly... Dietrich won the 2007 Patriot League crown in the 100 fly, with Zahalka winning the 200 fly title in each of the past two years... Cate Sheerin scored points in both fly events at the 2008 Patriot League Championship. 12

Sprint Freestyle Returners Brooke Besche posted a 25.47 in the 50 before transitioning to diving Thuy-Mi Dinh Navy and PL record holder in both sprint events; 08 NCAA qualifier in 50 and 100 free Stephanie Hebda best sprint times are 26.30 in the 50 and 57.17 in the 100 Sylvia Knap top times are 25.45 in the 50 free and 55.42 in the 100 free Lauren Milliron 13th in 100 free at 08 ECAC Meet Colleen Quinn posted times of 26.04 in the 50 free and 58.11 in the 100 free Annika Thomas has a career-best time of 24.89 in the 50 free Heather Waldorf top times are 25.24 in the 50 free and 54.34 in the 100 free Alli Warwick best clockings are 25.88 in the 50 free and 54.30 in the 100 free Newcomers Mary-Elyse Janowski John Morrison on the Sprint Freestyle As with the backstroke, our sprint freestyle corps lost a lot due to graduation. Thuy-Mi Dinh is coming off a very strong 2007-08 season that saw her win league titles in both sprint events and advance to the NCAA Championship and U.S. Olympic Trials. We will need Lauren Milliron, Sylvia Knap and Mary-Elyse Janowski to step up and fill in our losses from last year. Sprint Freestyle Notes Thuy-Mi Dinh made Navy and league history last year, posting the first sub-23 second time in the 50 free and the first sub-50-second clocking in the 100 free... she became the first league female swimmer to post an A cut qualifying time for the NCAA Championship with her time of 22.37 in the 50 free... she would also compete in the 100 free at the national meet... Dinh is the only returning Navy swimmer from last year who scored points in either sprint freestyle event at the Patriot League Meet. Individual Medley Returners Allison Aichele 10th & 7th (200/400) at 07 PL Meet; 14th in 200 IM at 08 PL Meet Natalie Albertson finalist in both IM events at 08 PL and ECAC Meets Mallory Dietrich best 200 IM time is 2:08.19 Clare McKenna has scored points in 400 IM in each of her three P.L. Meets Cate Sheerin best 200 IM time of 2:16.29 came at 08 PL Meet Tessa Snow placed 4th (200 IM) and 5th (400 IM) at 08 PL Meet Jennie Spencer 9th in 200 IM at 07 PL Meet Kelly Zahalka 4 career PL titles in the IM events; holds Navy/PL record in 400 IM Newcomers Alicia Gaidry Sarah Lindberg Kelly Reightler m Thuy-Mi Dinh m Kelly Zahalka John Morrison on the Individual Medley Individual medley is a big part of our training background, so I am sure we will find one or two break-out swimmers to add to our IM group. Kelly Zahalka has had a tremendous three seasons with winning three straight 400 IM titles at the league championship. We will look to Tessa Snow, Natalie Albertson and Allison Aichele for breakthrough performances, along with Mallory Dietrich. Individual Medley Notes Kelly Zahalka has totaled three consecutive 400 IM titles at the Patriot League Meet and won the 200 IM crown at the at the 2007 championship meet... she holds seven of the top-10 Navy times in the 400 IM and five of the top-10 200 IM clockings... Tessa Snow and Natalie Albertson both reached the championship final in each IM event at the 2008 league meet. Mid/Long Distance Freestyle Returners Tara Chapmon Navy s 200/500/1000/1650 free record holder Stephanie Hebda has posted times of 2:01.57 in 200 free and 5:26.64 in 500 free Erika Hubbard career finishes of 9th ( 06, 07) and 16th ( 08) in 1650 at PL Meet Heather Klein 14th in 500 free and 13th in 1650 free at 08 PL Meet Clare McKenna 10th in 1650 at 06 PL Meet, 12th in event at 08 Meet Claire Miller best 500 free time is 5:25.57 Allison Ranzau 2nd to Chapmon in 200 and 500 free at 08 PL Meet Heather Waldorf top times are 1:59.50 in 200 free and 5:20.42 in 500 free Alli Warwick best 200 free clocking is 1:57.66 Newcomers Ana Broere Nicole Glab Maddie Heilman Katherine Jones John Morrison on the Middle/Long Distance Freestyle Our one-two punch of Tara Chapmon and Allison Ranzau attacked every practice last year and reaped the benefits at the league championship. We expect these two to bring the same tenacity to training and competition everyday. They will be pushed by seniors Clare McKenna and Erika Hubbard. In our short training period this fall, freshmen Maddie Heilman and Katherine Jones have already displayed a tremendous work ethic and will work to stabilize the depth in this formidable group. Middle/Long Distance Freestyle Notes Tara Chapmon earned Patriot League Swimmer of the Year honors last year after winning the 200, 500 and 1650 free events at the league championship... Ranzau is the second-fastest swimmer in Navy history (to Chapmon) in the 200 and 500 free events... team captain Erika Hubbard, Claire Miller and Clare McKenna provide more than just depth for Navy in these events. Diving Returners Desiree Robison finaled on both boards at 08 PL and ECAC Meets Newcomers Carmen Meier Courtney Vandament m Tara Chapmon Joe Suriano on the Divers Desiree has steadily improved over the last three years. She m Desiree Robison should be able to fill in the shoes of (2008 graduate) Katie Griffin. Desiree is a very talanted diver who has a chance of winning a conference title. She is working on new trister dives to add difficulty to her excellant list of dives. An accomplished diver on springboard and platform. Courtney Vandament is a freshman diver who will help our program this year. Great toe point and great ability to get into the water without a splash. We need to perfect her three-meter list. Carmen Meir is a talanted gymnast who could be of help to the team. Diving Notes Desiree Robison is ready to take the next step and become one of the top divers in the Patriot League and possibly challenge for an NCAA Championship berth... she placed third on the three meter and fifth on the one meter at the 2008 Patriot League Meet, which came one year after a pair of top-six showings on the two boards at the 07 league championship... Carmen Meier and Courtney Vandament will battle it out all season to see who will become Navy s No. 2 diver. 13
