The weekend s contests will be played at the Redhawks home away from home for the remainder of the season, the National Little League Fields in Federal Way, Wash., as their on-campus home, Logan Field, is under reconstruction. SU started off the conference schedule with a 3-1 record versus Idaho State on Mar. 31 and Apr. 1, then earned their largest victory of the season thus far, topping Weber State 19-0 in their second game of the Apr. 6-7 weekend. The Redhawks and the Wolverines will meet for two days of doubleheaders, Apr. 14 and 15, starting at 12 p.m. each day. Live stats for all four games will be available at www. goseattleu.com. DIRECTIONS TO FEDERAL WAY NATIONAL LITTLE LEAGUE FIELDS: Physical address: 450 SW Campus Drive. Federal Way, WA 98023. From I-5 S, take exit 142B to merge onto WA-18 W toward S 348th St. Continue onto S 348th St. Continue onto SW Campus Drive. The field will be on the right. SCOUTING UTAH VALLEY: The Wolverines enter this weekend s contests with a 24-14-1 record, currently second in the PCSC Mountain Division. Going into the week, Utah Valley was on a four-game winning streak after sweeping Northern Colorado in all four contests on Apr. 6-7, but they suffered losses to Utah State, 8-7, on Apr. 10 and BYU, 3-1, on Apr. 11. The games versus Seattle U will wrap up a six-game road stretch for the Wolverines before they return home to host Weber State on Apr. 20-21 and San Jose State on Apr. 26. SERIES HISTORY: Since Seattle U returned to Division I play in 2008-09, they are 6-4 versus Utah Valley. The two teams last faced for a four-game series at Logan Field on Apr. 16-17, 2011, during which each team took two games. The Redhawks took game one each day, winning 8-2 in game one on Apr. 16, and 10-4 in game one on Apr. 17. The Wolverines won the second game each day, 8-4 in game two on Apr. 16 and 6-3 in game two on Apr. 17.

The two teams played one game as scheduled on April 6 (Weber State won 5-4) before having to postpone game two after the first inning. When the game was postponed, Seattle U led 11-0 after scoring 11 runs in the first inning alone. The game was completed the following day, April 7, and the Redhawks came away with a 19-0 win. Jessica Ulrich hit the team s second grand slam of the year to lead the team with four runs and five RBIs in the contest. Games three and four were played as scheduled on April 7 and the Redhawks fell in both contests, 10-6 in the third and 8-2 in the fourth. IDAHO STATE SERIES: The Redhawks began PCSC play by taking three of four games from Idaho State on their home field, marking the second straight year that Seattle U has started conference play with a 3-1 record. On day one of the series, Seattle U swept both contests, winning the first, 5-3, and winning the second, 4-0. On day two, the Redhawks fell in eight innings, 2-4, in game one, and won the second, 5-3. Richelle Ashburn s seven strikeouts in game one on March 31 tied for her season high (also on Feb. 26 vs. Santa Clara). Theresa Clark hit her first homer of the season in game two on April 1 and Lisa Maulden hit her second career home run in game two on March 31. Rogin Hardy had her first hits, run, and double of the season, batting 2-for-4 (.500) and recording one run and one double over the weekend. SPRINGHILL SUITES INVITATIONAL #2: The Redhawks went 1-5 on the weekend, topping the University of Texas San-Antonio on Mar. 23, 6-1, and falling to Boise State (0-9 and 3-9 on Mar. 22), New Mexico (5-6 on Mar. 23 and 5-8 on Mar. 24) and UTSA (3-8 on Mar. 24). In the two contests on Mar. 23, three different Redhawks hit 3RBI home runs, including two in their win over UTSA. In game one versus New Mexico on Mar. 23, Bubba Morrow hit a 3RBI home run to put the Redhawks ahead, 4-3, in the bottom of the third, but they were not able to hold the lead. Versus UTSA, Mandie Sugita hit a 3RBI home run to put Seattle U up, 3-0, and Lisa Maulden hit a second 3RBI home run to double their score, putting the Redhawks up, 6-0, in the top of the fifth. For Maulden, this was her first career home run. Seattle U came away with the eventual 6-1 win, allowing one run by UTSA in the bottom of the seventh. Sugita pitched her longest season/career game in the win (7.0 IP) and allowed only one run (tied for fewest runs allowed this season/in her career). Maulden recorded a season/career high 3RBIs in this game, batting 2-for-3, and also adding two runs. NORTH DAKOTA DOUBLEHEADER AND HUSKY SOFTBALL CLASSIC: To start the weekend, Seattle U hosted North Dakota for a doubleheader on Mar. 9, in their final contests on the old Logan Field before reconstruction begins in late March 2012. In the first contest, freshman Mandie Sugita hit her first career home run to score the final run of the game for the Redhawks, but Seattle U left two on base in the final innings and fell, 5-4. Game two started very differently, as the Redhawks took the early lead and led, 4-0, by the middle of the game. North Dakota added two runs to the board in the top of the fifth, but Seattle U responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning, thanks in part to a 2RBI home run by Jessica Ulrich, her first home run of the season. The Redhawks came away with an 11-4 win in game two. For the remainder of the weekend, SU traveled to nearby University of Washington to play in the Husky Softball Classic

versus Washington and North Dakota, on Mar. 10-11. On Mar. 10, game one was again versus North Dakota and the Redhawks came away with a narrow 2-1 victory on a Jenny Hurst single, bringing home Ashley DeVaere to score the winning run. In game two of the day, Seattle U fell, 8-0, in six innings to hos Washington. On Mar. 11, the Redhawks started the day with the fourth and final contest of the weekend versus North Dakota, falling 7-6 in eight innings despite a grand slam by freshman Bubba Morrow. In the second game of the day and final game of the weekend for the Redhawks, they held the Huskies to their second lowest run total so far this season, but fell, 4-0. BRITISH COLUMBIA DOUBLEHEADER: The Redhawks hosted British Columbia in a doubleheader for their home opener on Saturday, Mar. 3 and came away with two run-rule victories. In game one, Allegra Wilde led the team with three hits and five RBIs. Sarah Petosa also recorded three hits and brought in two runs of her own, as well as scoring two runs. Karina Smyth scored a teamhigh three runs for the Redhawks. Pitcher Richelle Ashburn got her second win of the season and held British Columbia to just two hits in six innings pitched, and Seattle U came away with the 8-0 victory in six innings. Game two started very similarly, and the Redhawks were able to come away with the 12-1 win in five innings. Bubba Morrow led the team with three hits, Briar Stanley led the team with four RBIs, and three players (Wilde, Lisa Maulden, and Erin Crowley) each scored two runs for Seattle U. Pitcher Jessica Ulrich got her first win of the season, allowing just one unearned run and five hits in five innings pitched. PCSC CROSSOVER TOURNAMENT: The Redhawks won their first two contests of the season to begin the Tournament, hosted by Saint Mary s College, in Moraga, Calif. on Feb. 24-26. In their first game on Feb. 24, Seattle U took Santa Clara into extra innings and came out with the 3-2 win in the eighth innings. This was the team s first extra innings contest of the season. Santa Clara took the early lead, going up 1-0 in the fourth inning until Brianna Guerrero hit a single with two outs, batting in Theresa Clark, and tying the game 1-1 to send it into extra innings. In the top of the eighth inning, the Broncos added another run, but Allegra Wilde and Sarah Petosa were able to add two runs to the board for the Redhawks and help the team come away with their first win of the season. In their second game of the day, Seattle U topped Sacramento State, 5-4. In the middle of the seventh inning, Seattle U was ahead 5-1 but, despite the Hornets adding three runs to the board in the bottom of the seventh, the Redhawks were able to hold them from further scoring and notch the win. On day 2, despite tying the game 2-2 in the fourth inning, the Redhawks fell to St. Mary s, 8-2. On the final day, Seattle U again took Santa Clara into eight innings, but with the opposite result. The Broncos came away with the 3-2 win in extra innings. In the second contest versus Santa Clara, Seattle U pitcher Richelle Ashburn pitched the entire game and tied her career high with seven strikeouts. OCEANIC TIME WARNER CABLE PARADISE CLASSIC: The Redhawks left the mainland for their first games of the season, facing Hawaii (twice), Missouri-Kansas City (twice), and DePaul. The Redhawks came away from the tournament with an 0-5 record to start the year after several hard fought battles in Honolulu. Six Seattle U freshmen got their first collegiate start in game one versus Hawaii - Sugita, Morrow, Hurst, DeVaere, Maulden, and Crowley. Sarah Petosa represented the Redhawks on the All-Tournament team. THE LEADER OF THE REDHAWKS: Dan Powers begins his sixth season as head coach of the Seattle University softball program. Since re-joining Division I, Powers has continued to build the program and will continue to lead the team towards success as they work to become a powerhouse in Division I softball. In 2010, he led the team to a third-place finish in the Mountain Division of the Pacific Coast Softball Conference with an 11-9 record. Seven players were recognized by the PCSC, with two being named to the first team. In the team s first year as a Division I program, in 2009, the Redhawks won the Division I Independent Softball Tournament with a 10-9 victory over South Dakota. While still in Division II, Powers led the team to their first GNAC Conference title and their third consecutive NCAA Tournament berth in 2008. The team also set a school record for most wins with an overall 38-14 record, going 18-6 in the conference. Before coming to Seattle U, Powers was the head softball coach at Lindbergh High School for three seasons and also competed in men s fastpitch for the Greater Puget Sound League as a catcher for eight years and a pitcher for seven years. NEW AND IMPROVED: Seattle University played their last home contests at the old Logan Field versus North Dakota on Mar. 9 before reconstruction begins in late March 2012. The team played their first two doubleheaders at Logan Field this season and will play the two home weekends of conference doubleheaders, Apr. 14 and 15 versus Utah Valley, and Apr. 28 and 29 versus Northorn Colorado at an off-campus location, TBD. The new Logan Field is set to open for the beginning of the 2013 season. RETURNERS TO WATCH FOR: Junior Allegra Wilde and senior Hannah Klein will serve as the team s two captains this season. Wilde was named All-Conference and Academic All-District VIII First-Team last season, starting all 46 games for the team, and leading the Redhawks in hits (49), doubles (12), RBIs (30), home runs (3, tied), and on-base percentage (38.6 percent). Klein started and played in 43 games in 2011, finishing second on the team in doubles (7) and RBIs (17). Sophomore Sarah Petosa is also expected to have another strong year. In 2011, she started 45 of 46 games and led the Redhawks in runs (30) and stolen bases (11), and finished second in hits (38) and on-base percentage (38.3 percent). She finished the year with a.286 batting average, but reached upwards of.300 during the season. NEW FACES: The Redhawks add seven new freshmen to their roster for the 2012 season, many of which will see significant playing time to begin the season. Of note, Mandie Sugita won the starting pitching spot to begin the season and Bubba Morrow started at catcher. Other freshmen include Jenny Hurst, Erin Crowley, Ashley DeVaere, Kaydi Kochi, and Lisa Maulden. The team also added two transfer students, Becca Cable (Pierce CC), and Rogin Hardy (Bellevue College). School...Seattle University Location...Seattle, Wash. Head Coach... Dan Powers Conference...
