Box 277 Barnegat, NJ 08005 (609) 891-8080 Summer is here finally and with the hot summer days we need to be careful when out flying due to the heat. Heat Exhaustion can creep up on you and before you know it, it's too late. Bring plenty of water when going to Brick Wall or Coyle Field. Be sure to put the tent up when you're at Brick Wall, that little bit of shade will be a blessing. Signs of Heat Exhaustion are sometimes overlooked and not noticed at the onset. These signs of Heat Exhaustion may include ANY of the following: Feeling faint or dizzy Nausea Heavy sweating Rapid/weak heartbeat Cool, moist, pale skin Possible low grade fever Cramps Headache Dark colored urine If you find yourself or someone else with these symptoms, get them out of the sun and if possible put them in a car with the AC running. Treatment for Heat Exhaustion includes the following: Get them out of the sun and into a shady or AC conditioned location Lay them down and elevate the legs slightly Loosen their clothing Drink cool water or any non-alcoholic beverage (no caffeine) Monitor the person closely and use your better judgment whether or not calling 911 is required. If not treated quickly, heat exhaustion will quickly become heat stroke, which is life threatening.
Last Month's Minutes President s Desk Warbirds Over Delaware will be July 6th - 9th. Hopefully, we will have a nice turnout as always. I plan on arriving early Saturday morning to get our spot and setup the tent. Please check the website calendar for other various local functions around New Jersey. Enjoy! Richard Bombardier Club President Date: June 1, 2016 Called to Order: 7:34 Pine Barren Modelers RC Club Meeting Minutes Officers Present: President Rich Bombardier Vice-President Ron Pinksaw Treasurer Ralph Ferrara Secretary Micki Bowne Absent: Safety Officer Pat Lovenstein Attendance: 12 New Member(s): Joe Asprocolas Previous minutes: Read and accepted Treasurer s Report: Read and Accepted Field Reports: Coyle: Bill Bowne reported that there were some tracks on the field, but otherwise the runway is in great shape. Brick Wall: All is fine. Rich again reminded everyone that if you go to the field on a weekday be sure to first drive by the scale house to let management know you will be flying. Jake s Branch: No report Safety Report: Pat Lovenstein No report Old Business: Rich B. reported that the club website continues to be improved as new items are frequently added. An events calendar has been included, along with pictures and a contact page. Regarding the club auction, Joe Gross reported on the high cost of rental halls. There was a brief discussion about possibly combining with the Mercer County RC club to have the auction at their field as they have an outdoor pavilion. Rich B. suggested having the auction at the Barnegat Rec. Center. Joe G. will discuss this option with Tommy D. Rich B. reported that the MDL Open House was great, although the weather was cold and windy on Sunday. Our club booth was very busy both days. Rich stated that this event was a great opportunity to educate the public about model aviation. Ralph F. reported that he has estimates from two other clothing providers. Both of these estimates are close to each other, but less than our current supplier. Ron P. reported that the field roller for Brickwall is repaired. The repair included creating a larger opening in the roller, so it can be filled with sand.
Bill's Corner Last Month's Minutes New Business: There will be a raffle at the club picnic on September 11. Initial suggestion was a DLE 20 gas engine but the club members felt that an airplane would have more general appeal. Berkley Pride Day is September 10. Ron P. will check the date for Lacey Day. The club is also considering participating in Pumpers and Pistons again this year. Rich B. has contacted Brickwall management regarding have a Disabled Vet Day. We are awaiting approval. The trash at Brickwall is becoming a problem. Please put butts in the butt can and trash in garbage pails Bill Bowne is willing to coordinate club fun flies next year. More discussion and event suggestions are needed. Upcoming Events: BCRCC Fun Fly in Pemberton is June 4. NJ Pine Barons are having their fun fly/club picnic on June 4. JCSF Electric Fun Fly in Colts Neck is July 2 Warbirds over Delaware is July 6 9. AMA District II Fun Fly in Andover, NJ is August 27 28 Model(s) of the Month: None Motion to Adjourn: Accepted Meeting Adjourned: 8:58 Minutes respectfully submitted by Micki Bowne Secretary Pine Barrens RC Club If you recall, last month I mentioned that our other club was having a Fun Fly. As members of that club, Micki and I thank President Rich and Safety Officer Pat for coming and joining in the fun (Sorry about that ESC, Pat now you know why I m not crazy about grass runways!). The morning of the other club s meet, I got hit by an allergy attack. The constantly running nose, sneezing, and dizziness all combined to make me feel miserable and unable to concentrate. I know that if I take an allergy pill, it usually stops the symptoms, but results in an unpleasant intoxication (akin to having a few drinks, but without the fun). So, I sat and watched whilst everyone else flew (and Micki drove us home). I d like to think most of us wouldn t drive or fly after a few beers, but we don t always realize the effects nonrecreational drugs can have on us. So, read the label if it says may cause drowsiness or dizziness, please don t take it and drive to the field. Oh, you re welcome to come out and kibitz with us, but PLEASE, leave your models at home and have someone else do the driving! Another note about prescription and over the counter drugs. They can interfere with the body s natural cooling (and warming). Again, read the label, especially if you ve recently changed prescription (or dosage). As Rich noted, heat exhaustion is a real danger, and some otherwise life-saving drugs make it worse. On a more pleasant note, you ll find a useful airplane trimming guide a few pages aft of here. I don t know if Great Planes (i.e., Tower Hobbies) is the original compiler of these tips (this version is from the defunct Scale R/C Modeler Magazine), but Great Planes has been including them (in one form or another) in their kits for many years. So, our thanks go to Great Planes for creating the guide, and to President Rich for bringing it to our attention. Happy Birthday, USA!
