Dues are Due: Golly with the snow cancelled meeting lots of Poggies haven t paid. Not coming to the meeting, well mail them in PO Box 492, Bremerton, WA 98337. Taking Care of Chico inlet Fishing: In addition to providing a sani-can porto pot and garbage cans the Poggie Club has partnered with Bremerton Parks to place doggy bags and remove the garbage. This is vital to ensuring public use of this tribal leased area where they raise shellfish. To do this we have a rotating sign-up of Poggies to check the area and take the garbage to the dumpsters behind Sportsman s Wearhouse. Poggie Ron Kirkland is on duty for March April 2019 Poggie Bill Mars is on duty for May June 2019 Poggie Ward Hendricks is on duty for July August 2019 The Modern Fish Act: This long sought piece of legislation passed both houses of congress on December 19, 2018 and was signed into Law by President Trump on December 31 st. This is a big deal for recreational fishing, for more info google modern fish act or go to www.nmma.org. Membership Contest: We will raise the bar again because 17 in 17 as well as 18 in 18 were successful new member recruiting programs. For 2019 we will look for 19 in 19 to produce a qualifying 19 new members to create a minimum $100 prize pot. In addition to recruiting 2019 will feature recognition awards for areas of volunteerism by club members.
Summer Picnic 2019: We need clams for next year. It is clam season. We need 140 to 180. The Chief Poggie will clean, vacu-seal, and store the clams you donate. No, he won t eat them they will reappear for the 2019 picnic. A 2-fer you get the fun digging them and enjoy the summer picnic. Good digging. Club Items Shirts, Hats, Coats: A sign up list will be available at the next meeting an order has been made and more will be submitted. Summer Conversation Camp: Time to seek candidates for this great experience: With support from Edward Jones Mary Beslagic we have funds for six scholarships. Dates: Girls July 14 20, 2019 ages 12 16 during camp dates. Boys July 21-27, 2019 ages 12-16 during camp dates. Youth Protection Training: The Poggie Board recognizes the events our club participates in or sponsors where the need for an established policy of youth protection is needed. The free Youth Protection Training offered by the Boy Scouts of America has been taken by most of our Board Members as we evaluate the best approach for our club. We now know that clubs/organizations like ours that relate with youth activities and do not have a strong Youth Protection Training/Policy in place are a target for predators targeting youth. Additional information on training and background checks for the Poggie Club will be a topic of discussion at the coming general meetings. Coming Events: Kitsap Water Festival April 16 th Poggie Louie POC for about six volunteers. Desire members with Youth Protection Training. Annual Kids Fishing Party Saturday April 27 th additional work parties before and after TBD. Elections: Nominations needed for two board positions: Re-elect or replace position held by Poggie Ray Fredericks he has stated desire to accept re-election. Re-elect or replace position held by Poggie John Morton he has stated he is not for re-election. Question of the Month: How do you prepare salmon heads for fish head soup?
