LOS ANGELES DODGERS (79-61) at Miami Marlins (70-71) LHP Rich Hill (11-3, 1.94) vs. RHP Tom Koehler (9-10, 3.87) Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 7:10 p.m. ET Marlins Park Miami, FL Game 141 Road Game 67 (32-34) Night Game 103 (53-49) TV: SNLA/SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570 (Eng.)/KTNQ 1020 AM (Span.)/AM 1540 (Kor.) WIPE IT CLEAN: The Dodgers had their five-game winning streak snapped last night, falling to the Marlins, 4-1, in the first game of a threegame series and season-long 10-game road trip (0-1). Los Angeles leads the Giants by 4.0 games in the NL West. Following the series with the Marlins, the Dodgers will pay visits to Yankee Stadium (3 games) and Chase Field (4), before heading back to Dodger Stadium for the final homestand of the 2016 season. The Dodgers were swept by Miami for the first time ever April 25-28 and have already lost the season series with the Fish. Los Angeles is 8-6 at Marlins Park since the stadium opened in 2012. The Dodgers five-game losing streak against the Marlins is their longest in franchise history. DOING IT ALL: Corey Seager, a top candidate for National League Rookie of the Year honors, went 1-for-4 last night and continues to rank among the NL leaders in hits (172, T-2 nd ), runs (94, T-3 rd ), doubles (39, 2 nd ), total bases (289, 5 th ), batting average (.318, 3 rd ), multi-hit games (51, 2 nd ), extra-base hits (66, 6 th ) and slugging pct. (.534, T-8 th ). Seager s 24 home runs are the most ever by a Dodger shortstop and are the third most by a Los Angeles rookie, behind only Mike Piazza (35, 1993) and Joc Pederson (26, 2015). He already holds the Los Angeles record for doubles and runs scored by a rookie and currently has the highest on-base percentage by an LA rookie, while approaching the team single-season rookie leaders in most major offensive categories: Los Angeles Rookie Leaders, Since 1958 Category Seager (Rank) Leader Hits 172 (3 rd ) Sax (180, 1982) Runs 94 (1 st ) Seager Doubles 39 (1 st ) Seager Home Runs 24 (3 rd ) Piazza (35, 1993) Average.318 (T-1 st ) Piazza (.318, 1993) SLG.534 (2 nd ) Piazza (.561, 1993) OBP.378 (1 st ) Piazza (.370, 1993) THE LONGBALL: The Dodgers are averaging 1.2 home runs per game this year (169 HR/140 G), their most since 2004 (1.25 HR/G) and are on pace for the fourth-highest mark in Los Angeles history. Four Dodgers have powered 20+ home runs Justin Turner (25), Yasmani Grandal (25), Corey Seager (24) and Joc Pederson (20) marking just the seventh time in Los Angeles history and the first time since 2001 that four or more players have done so: 1977 (4), 1979 (5), 1997 (4), 1999 (4), 2000 (5), 2001 (4) and 2016 (4). In addition to the 20-homer quartet, five more Dodgers have already or have a good chance to reach double digits: Adrián González (17), Trayce Thompson (13), Chase Utley (12), Yasiel Puig (9) and Howie Kendrick (8). Yasmani Grandal leads Major League catchers with a careerhigh 25 home runs, matching the most by an LA backstop (primary position) since Paul Lo Duca s 25 homers in 2001. The last Dodger catcher to hit more than 25 was Mike Piazza in 1997 (40). In 49 games since the All-Star break, the Dodgers rank among the Majors best in team average (.267, 6 th ), slugging percentage (.449, 5 th ) and runs per game (5.04, 3 rd ). The Dodgers slugging pct. is on pace to be the highest in Los Angeles history after the All-Star break, outpacing the previous mark of.434 set in 2008. A MINOR DO-OR-DIE: The minor league postseason is in full swing and three of the Dodger farm teams are staring at postseason elimination tonight. Nashville came back to beat the Triple-A OKC Dodgers last night, 6-5, in Game 3 of best-of-five series. This evening at 5:05 p.m. PT, Alfredo Figaro will take the ball for the Dodgers, who are looking to extend the series to five games. The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes were clobbered, 21-6, by the Lancaster JetHawks and dropped their playoff series, 2-1, ending the Quakes 2016 campaign. Single-A Great Lakes was beaten, 8-6, by Bowling Green last night, evening their series at 1-1. Tonight s game will be at 4:35 p.m. PT and LHP Walker Buehler will try to send the Loons into the championship round. Rookie-level Ogden lost, 6-5, to the Orem Owlz in Game 1 of their best-of-three series. This afternoon at 12:35 PT, the Raptors look to extend their season another day. MATCHUP vs. MARLINS Dodgers: 1 st, NL West (4.0 GA) Marlins: 3 rd, NL East (13.0 GB) All-Time: LA leads series, 96-84 (8-6 at Marlins Park) 2016: LA trails series, 0-5 (0-1 at Marlins Park) April 25 @LA: L, 2-3 W: Chen L: Stripling S: Ramos April 26 @LA: L, 3-6 W: Koehler L: Kershaw S: Ramos April 27 @LA: L, 0-2 W: Nicolino L: Kazmir S: Urena April 28 @LA: L, 3-5 W: Fernandez L: Maeda S: Ramos Sept. 9 @MIA: L, 1-4 W: Fernandez L: Kershaw S: Ramos KING OF THE HILL: Left-hander Rich Hill will make his third start for the Dodgers, following two consecutive 6.0-inning scoreless outings against the Giants and Padres, respectively. Hill has allowed six hits and two walks while striking out 11 in his 12.0 innings as a Dodger. Overall, Hill is unbeaten in his last 10 starts since May 7 with a career-best eight-game winning streak, going 8-0 with a 1.61 ERA (10 ER/56.0 IP), a.175 opponents batting average (35-for-200) and 60 strikeouts against just 17 walks in that span. Hill has never faced the Marlins in his career, but two Miami players have faced him numerous times. Jeff Francoeur is 2-for- 14 and Ichiro Suzuki is 3-for-11. SORT OF GOOD: Dodger left-hander Clayton Kershaw returned from the disabled list last night and went 3.0 innings against the Marlins, allowing two runs and five hits while striking out five and walking none. According to Elias, Kershaw became the first pitcher to record 150 strikeouts with less than 10 walks in a season since the mound was moved to its current distance way back in 1893. The Dodgers had the second-best record in the Majors since June 27, going 38-24 (.613), while Kershaw was on the DL. MARLIN HUNTER: Dodger outfielder Josh Reddick was the lone bright spot at the plate last night against Jose Fernandez, going 3-for-4 with a double in the game, including two hits off the dominant right-hander. Reddick is now 7-for-10 in just three career games against Miami. The Georgia native has been hot of late, batting.600 (12-for-20) in his last six games since Aug. 31. Dodger infielders Justin Turner (5-for-11, HR, 4 BB) and Chase Utley (6-for-17-.353, HR, 6 RBI) have experienced plenty of success against Marlins starter Tom Koehler since his debut in 2012. Since joining the Dodgers last season, infielder/outfielder Howie Kendrick is hitting.342 (13-for-38) with a homer, two doubles and five runs scored against the Marlins. GOLDEN GLOVEWORK: The Dodgers have been the Majors best fielding team this year, leading the big leagues in fielding percentage (.988) and committing the fewest errors of any team (63). THE BIG MAN: Dodger closer Kenley Jansen picked up his 43 rd save of the season Wednesday and ranks among the National League s best in saves (43, 2 nd ), ERA (1.76, 3 rd ), opponents batting average (.148, T-1 st ), WHIP (0.65, 1 st MLB) and strikeouts (91 in 61.1 innings, T-4 th ). Jansen is one save shy of matching his career high of 44, set in 2014, and has posted just the seventh 40-save season in franchise history. The Dodger bullpen ranks second in the NL in both ERA (3.34, 186 ER/501.0 IP) and opponents batting average (.216), while leading the league in WHIP (1.14). SHOOT OFF THE FIREWORKS: The Dodgers yesterday placed RHP Carlos Frias on the 60-day disabled list, giving them 28 different players on the DL this year, which is the most for any team in the last 30 years since at least 1987. The mark eclipsed the 2012 Boston Red Sox, who had 27. (Source: Stats, LLC). Including the postseason, Dodger outfielder Andre Ethier (fractured right tibia) went 13-for-41 (.317) with four doubles, a homer and four RBI in 11 rehab games with Rancho Cucamonga. Ethier arrived in Miami last night and is expected to be reinstated prior to this evening s game. JUST 13 GAMES LEFT FOR THE GREATEST: Dodger Hall of Fame broadcaster Vin Scully is scheduled to call just 13 more games for the Dodgers, a team he has worked for since 1950. Next Friday, Dodger fans can salute Vin as the club will honor its longtime voice Sept. 23, prior to the game vs. Colorado, with Vin Scully Appreciation Day. The festivities will include special guests, an on-field ceremony with Vin and his family, as well as a video tribute. For tickets, go to dodgers.com/lalovesvin.
