Gonsalves flirst with no-hitter in 9-1 drubbing of Jupiter Miracle starter Stephen Gonsalves carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning against the Jupiter Hammerheads to help the Miracle cruise to a 9-1 victory in the series opener at Roger Dean Stadium on Tuesday. Gonsalves no-no bid was broken up by a Brian Schales single in the bottom of the sixth. Stephen went six innings to earn his second win and allowed just two hits, with two walks and six strikeouts. The Miracle offense churned out nine runs, matching a season-high, on 11 hits and three players in the lineup recorded multihit games. Ryan Walker was 2-for-5 with a triple and two runs scored. Nick Gordon was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Alex Swim was 3-for-5 with an RBI. The top three batters in the lineup, Walker, Chris Paul and Gordon combined to score six of the nine runs. The shutout bid was ended in the Dexter Kjerstad hit a solo homer off Miracle reliever Raul Fernandez in the bottom of the eighth. The homer snapped a scoreless inning streak of 30 from the Miracle staff. Miracle pitching staff s scoreless inning streak halted at 30 In game one of a three-game series with the Charlotte Stone Crabs on Friday, April 22, the Miracle fell by a final score of 4-2. In the sixth inning of that game, Charlotte would score an insurance run. At the time, the Crabs could not have known that would be the final run the Charlotte offense produced in the series. The Miracle finished out the final three innings without surrendering a run. Then, the two teams combined for a scoreless extra-inning game that was ended in the bottom of the eleventh on an Edgar Corcino walk-off RBI single. Fort Myers pushed the consecutive string of scoreless innings to 23 with a second shutout in the series on Sunday afternoon, 2-0. The streak finally ended at 30 innings after Dexter Kjerstad hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth in an April 26 Miracle win, 9-1. Currently, the Miracle, Stone Crabs and Clearwater Threshers staffs lead the FSL with four shutouts apiece. Clearwater is tops in the FSL with a 2.07 team ERA with the Miracle second (2.09). Cold offense heats up at Roger Dean Stadium On April 17 in Daytona, the Miracle exploded for nine runs on 11 hits at Jackie Robinson Ballpark to blow out the Tortugas. After that Sunday evening, Fort Myers scored only 13 runs in 65 innings until again posting nine runs on April 26 against Jupiter. In that span of seven games, the Miracle scored more than two runs only once and were just 38-for-220 at the plate; a team average of.173. Yesterday, the Miracle tallied 11 hits in 36 team at-bats, coaxed seven walks and six different members of the lineup knocked in a run. Gordon stays hot at the plate as April comes to a close With only four games remaining on the schedule this month, Miracle shortstop Nick Gordon will be sad to see April end. Gordon tallied his team-high sixth multi-hit game on April 26 to push his average to.357; third in the FSL. Gordon is tied with St. Lucie s Ahmed Rosario for the league lead in hits at 25. At 20 years old, Gordon is one of the youngest players in the FSL, but the former first round pick from 2014 leads the club in hits (25), at-bats (70), runs (10), doubles (5), RBI (9), total bases (35), on-base percentage (.392) and slugging percentage (.500).
