Kevin Kast, Editor February 2018 A New Year ClubK presiden T K and A New Winner Message From Our M ike Florez tackled Tulare Golf Course like a linebacker on a unsuspecting quarterback. Mike was the only player to score below par for the day. His closest competitor was Manuel Balcazar six strokes behind. It appears the winter rust was thick on the rest of the field. There were a number of new members in the First time winner, Mike Florez, dominated the field. field and most finished in the top half of the leaderboard. Our longtime members need to up their games and grab some serious rangetime if they want to compete with this new crop of members. Closest-to-the-pin honors went to Kevin Kast on the front nine and Bill Horg on the back. In Kast s case, a blind squirrel can find a nut once in a while. We had eight new members play in the Tulare tournament. They are: Freddie Gonzalez, Alfred Ferraiz Jr., John Paz, Augie Santellano, Dennis Long, Mike Espinosa, Allan Overby, and William O Neill. Say Hi and welcome to the Club at the next tournament in Madera. evin ast W hat a great start to our 2018 season! We had a beautiful, warm day. A golf course in fantastic conditions for January with nice, quick greens. And we had eight new members playing in a field of 21 players. First of all I would like to say Welcome to all our new members and I look forward to playing with you and against you in upcoming tournaments. The more members we have playing in our tournaments, the more fun we have and the larger the prizes can be. I encourage all of you to ask your golfing buddies to come out and play in one of our member/guest tournaments and consider joining our Club. The NCGA is adding member benefits all the time which makes being a member an even better value. Playing Poppy Hills in Carmel and Poppy Ridge in Livermore at member rates is one of the best benefits I can think of. If you haven t played those courses yet, I would highly recommend it. Check out the NCGA Golf magazine for other benefits of NCGA membership. I encourage each of you to mark your calendar with the golf club schedule for the entire year now so you will know what day and where you ll be playing golf each month. The schedule is always printed on the top of page 2 of this newsletter. Please See Kast Cont. on Pg 2

56th Annual Caltrans Invitational Golf Tournament Thursday May 17 and Friday May 18, 2018 Monterey, CA - Save the Date - The 56th Annual Caltrans Invitational Golf Tournament will be held on the beautiful Monterey Peninsula on May 17 and May 18, 2018. The Carmel Mission Inn will be our gathering spot and launching point for two great days of golf. On Thursday we will play the prestigious Del Monte Golf Club in Pebble Beach. On Friday we will travel a short way to Bayonet Golf Club just north of Monterey. At Del Monte GC we will tee off at 1:00 p.m. (shotgun start) and at Bayonet GC we will tee off at 9 a.m. (shotgun start). The awards banquet will be held at the Carmel Mission Inn following golf at 5 p.m. on May 18th. We are hopeful that most of the participants will stick around for it. Carmel Mission Inn is located near Carmel. The hotel serves breakfast and has a happy hour buffet from 5:00pm-7:00pm. All accommodations are at very reasonable rate of $179 for a single king and $189 for a double queen, for Wednesday and Thursday night. Friday is also available at higher rates of $219/$229. There is a raceway event the weekend following so Friday rooms may fill up fast. First come first serve basis but please try to reserve early as we have limited rooms blocked until April 16. Room reservations will be made by the participants to meet individual needs. Contract is pending with approval imminent. A Fact Sheet will be forthcoming with all the information. We have booked the venues and even though the cost of golf will be higher than last year, we feel that it is a great value for the quality of courses and location. Golf will cost approximately $250. Banquet will cost approximately $40. We look forward to another great tournament with the assistance from the Clubs around the state.
