Greg Holland, COL....168 SOMETHING S BREWING: Kyle Schwarber last night recorded his fourth career multi-homer effort, and added a triple to go along with four RBI, while Jon Lester allowed two runs in 7.0 innings as the Cubs defeated the White Sox, 6-3, to improve to a season-high seven games over.500 heading into this three-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers. Chicago enters this series holding a 1.5-game lead over the Brewers in the N.L. Central Division, and has emerged from the All-Star Break with an 11-2 record (.846), the best mark in baseball the Dodgers are second at 10-2 (.833). This 11-2 run has helped the Cubs make up seven games in the N.L. Central standings since the season s second half started two weeks ago. Since returning July 6 from his stint at Triple-A Iowa, Schwarber is hitting.280 (14-for-50) with three doubles, a triple, five homers and eight RBI in 15 games. Schwarber is just the eighth Cub to record at least four multi-homer games by his age 24 season Anthony Rizzo, Kris Bryant and Ron Santo top the list, each with seven multi-homer efforts by the end of their age 24 seasons. ROAD WARRIORS: Chicago has won its last nine road games since July 2, and has recorded just its seventh single-season road winning streak of at least nine games since 1913, most previously done in 2015 (nine games) and 2008 (nine games) prior to that, the club accomplished the feat in 1945 (12 games), 1944 (11 games), 1918 (10 games) and 1917 (10 games). Overall, this is the team s longest winning streak away from the Friendly Confines since winning 12-straight from Sept. 15, 2015-April 7, 2016. QUINTANA ON THE BUMP: José Quintana tonight makes his third start since he was acquired by the Cubs from the White Sox, July 13 he s won his first two outings and produced a 2.08 ERA (3 ER/13.0 IP) while walking two and striking out 19 he tonight aims to become just the fourth pitcher since 2000 to win each of his first three starts as a Cub. The only Cubs hurlers to win their first three starts with the club since 2000 are Jason Bere in 2001 (first three), Carlos Silva in 2010 (franchise record first eight) and John Lackey last year (first three). THE NEXT BLASTS: Kris Bryant needs one more home run to become just the fourth Cub ever with three 20-homer seasons by his age 25 campaign or younger Bryant, who hit 26 homers in 2015 and 39 in 2016, would join Ron Santo (four times, 1961-65), Anthony Rizzo (three times, 2013-15) and Billy Williams (three times, 1961-63). The franchise mark for consecutive save chances converted is held by Dempster (26 straight in the 2005-06 seasons) Davis 20- straight save conversions are tied for fourth-longest in club history overall.
