The Class of 2021 Bag Bingo for this Saturday March 2nd location has changed to Westminster High School in the 2nd floor cafeteria. The times stay the same. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the games will begin at 7:00p.m. We have a sellout crowd please spread the word that it will now be held at the school. It will be a great crowd, great prizes and it s all for a good cause. February is Career and Technical Education Month. Today, we feature Principles of Fashion and Interior Design. From the clothes we wear to the homes we live in, the textile industry is all around us. In the Principles of Fashion and Interior Design course, students put theory into practice as they explore the elements and principles of design in their work with textiles. Students will use basic sewing skills and STEM concepts in clothing and interiors to create solutions to real-world problems in comprehensive and useful ways. March is National Music in Our Schools Month. The theme this year is All Music-All People. Westminster High School can be
very proud of our musicians, and we join in celebrating in the importance of a quality music education for everyone. Attention WHS: Our Spring Unity Day will be coming up April 5th. The theme is Superheroes: What s your superpower? Pick up forms outside of A126 Ms. Wildasin s room if you are interested in being part of this tradition. Forms are due March 13th. The month of March is Youth Art Month. Beginning tonight the incredible talent of Carroll County students will be on display in the Carroll Community College Langdon Gallery. Please join us in the gallery for the opening reception tonight from 5 to 7 pm and check out the fantastic work of our students. Service Learning Opportunities The Carroll County Education Association is hosting Read Across America at the Westminster Town Mall on Saturday, March 2nd from 10am to 2pm. We are looking for 10-12 more student volunteers to help run table activities, do face painting and run floor activities with children from our community. Volunteers will earn service learning hours for their time and participation. Remember this opportunity is open to the first 10-12 students who sign-up to volunteer. From the Counseling Office The Silver Run/Union Mills Lions Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship for Seniors who reside in the 21158 zip code area that demonstrate financial need, are involved in community activities with an emphasis on community service, and show scholastic ability. The deadline is Friday, April 15, 2019. See Mrs. Krom in the counseling office for more information. Athletic Information Both the boys' and girls' tennis teams have a meeting today at 3:45 in the second floor cafeteria. Attendance is mandatory. Please bring any paperwork that you may have. Attention anyone interested in tryout for softball: Softball tryouts will be today from 7-9 pm in the main gym, 11-1 on Saturday, March 2nd and Monday times to be announced. JV: Friday, 3/1 5:00-7:00 Saturday, 3/2: 3:00 5:00 Varsity: Friday, 3/1: 3:30 5:30 Saturday, 3/2: 1:00 3:00 Last Saturday twelve WHS student-athletes competed in the 2019 CCPS Power Lifting Competition featuring the bench press, squat, and dead lift. All twelve WHS lifters earned a spot on their respective weight class podium with a top three finish with eight of our lifters setting new records in one or more of the lifts! Five WHS lifters placed first overall in their weight classes: Alexa Cuddy, Kathleen Devilbiss, Mitch Kepler, Noah Baugher, and Joe Parry. Noah Baugher took home the Male Lifter of the Meet award with a new all-time meet record total of 1430 lbs including an alltime all-weight-class record deadlift of 625 lbs. in the last attempt of the day (video of this lift attached).
