The 11th ranked Union Bulldogs are coming off convincing loss to No. 8 Trevecca Nazarene to open the 2005 TranSouth Conference play. Now the men step out of conference play for two games starting with Hannibal-LaGrange College (Mo.) on Saturday and then cross-town rival, Lambuth University on Tuesday. Hannibal-LaGrange is currently on a three game losing streak and would like nothing more that to stop that slide at Union as former Bulldog point guard Eric Barnes leads his team into Jackson. Hannibal-LaGrange is led by Phillip Clophus with 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds. Antoine Jackson follows with 13.8 points and 6.1 rebounds. Kellen Fernetti is close behind with 13.4 points per game. Union is paced by Corey Burkett with 14.5 points and Ben Frederick with 12.6 points per game. Sophomore Center Pierry Valmeria is averaging 8.2 points per game but has tallied double figures in four of his last five games, (averaging 18.6 points in his last three games). Game Facts... Opponent s Record vs. Union: 0-6 Last time these teams met... November 13, 2004 in Hannibal, Missouri Union defeated Hannibal-LaGrange 72-59. The Bulldogs also held a 37-28 halftime lead. Union was led by Ben Frederick with 20 points, Corey Burkett with 17 points, and Rod Ross with 14 points. Hannibal-LaGrange was led by Antoine Jackson with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Phillip Clophus tallied 10 points in the game. Union Athletics News and Notes... The second semester for Union Athletics has kicked off with great anticipation. The Lady Bulldogs and Bulldogs are ranked No. 1 and No. 11 respectively in the national basketball rankings. The Union baseball team will begin play on February 1st at the University of Mobile (Ala.). and are receiving votes in the preseason baseball polls. The men s golf team also received votes in the preseason golf rankings. As for softball, the preseason rankings have not been released yet but, Union is expected to be listed among the top 10 teams in the NAIA.
