VALLEY DRAGONS JRLFC What a wonderful start to the 2017 footy season, with beautiful weather and smiling faces on the players at Gowrie this week. We would like to thank all the wonderful helpers who came out at 7am to set up and to all those in the canteen that helped Kerry out. From this week we will be asking that the last team on the grounds assist with packing up the canteen as we have a very stretched committee this year and a few extra helpers are really needed and appreciated. With this Sunday being MOTHERS DAY we would like to encourage the Dads, Step dads, Uncles, Grandfathers, Brothers and Cousins to help out with team duties and let all the wonderful Dragon Mummas have a much deserved break and enjoy watching their child/children. Our fundraising events are currently being organised with the raffle to come out early in the season this year and for the first time a kid's disco being held. This is being done in conjunction with the Tara Costigan Foundation which is something close to our hearts here at the Dragons. Later in August we plan to have our adults night out and we encourage you to put your ideas forward for themes, preferences of type of event etc through to secretary@valleydragons.com.au or via our Facebook page. Big congratulations to our players selected and/or trying out for our ACT School boys sides. The club are proud of your commitment and persistence to your game. Good luck to all teams for Round 2. VOLUNTEERS WANTED We have one volunteer and looking for just a few more. We have the dj and the room we just need some help with flyers, confirmation and organising it all. The committee and our wonderful parent helpers will be available on the night to help it run smoothly. Please contact Naomi Alchin as soon as possible via secretary@valleydragons.com.au You may have seen this funny picture doing the rounds on Facebook and social media recently. It s good for a laugh but also highlights two important parts of the game. Firstly, everyone who makes the club run are VOLUNTEERS. There are many hours spent to get each event, week, training and season in motion so please respect that and consider volunteering some of your time too please many hands make light work! Secondly, the Junior Rugby League has a code of conduct for all players, team officials and yes even parents and spectators of the game. The Code of Conduct can be found on www.playnrl.com. Let s all demonstrate the Rugby League Values: EXCELLENCE - INCLUSIVENESS COURAGE - TEAMWORK
Congratulations to our Valley Dragons players who represented Tuggeranong in the U11 & U12 regional carnival on Thursday 4 th May at Phillip Oval. Both Tuggeranong pool 1 and development teams won the finals. Great display of sportsmanship in the U11 Reds (pictured below) Alex Tong, Linkin Webster, Nathan Lakatos, Lachie Cunanan and Ryan Cunanan. Ryan was selected but was unable to play due to injury this didn t stop him from being there to support his team mates. Well done Dragons!!
IMPORTANT REMINDER During round 1 last weekend a few issues arose with on field safety. The NRL on field policy states that ONLY accredited officials are allowed on the field during warm up and game play. This is to ensure the safety of all participants of rugby league (including spectators). As rugby league is a contact sport it is essential these policies are adhered to at all times. If your child is injured during a game you are NOT able to enter the field to assist or check on them. Each team has a registered and qualified sports trainer to attend to all injuries and follow up with you regarding those injuries. Failure to comply with the on-field policy may result in the club receiving a fine for breach of the policy. For further information please visit www.playnrl.com or speak to your team s sports trainer. You can also discuss with Tegan Graham (Assistant Secretary and Sports Trainer) via admin@valleydragons.com.au or Barb Pfieffer (Club Sports Trainer Coordinator) via sportstrainer@valleydragons.com.au. Thank you for your cooperation with adhering to NRL policy. Tegan Each week the club issues the Dragon Tales edition which is one of our primary communication and celebratory tools. We need your help to make our newsletter fun and interactive. Each week we include a player or team profile including game briefs and over views, milestones, achievements, photos, jokes, drawings or anything really. Please email all submission along with images to admin@valleydragons.com.au by Tuesday evening each week of the season.
