Dear fellow members: As most of you are aware, we have deferred some needed capital improvement projects as well as some basic capital maintenance items. This belt tightening was necessary and appropriate as we navigated through both economic and membership challenges. With the economy now stable and economic activity growing in the Norcross/Duluth area, we believe the timing is right to enhance the value of Berkeley Hill Country Club by completing certain capital improvements that have been prioritized and analyzed for cost by the management staff and the Board. Membership is growing and we have an opportunity to build on the momentum by making prudent investments over the remainder of 2015 and into 2016 designed to make our club one of the premier mid-level private clubs in Atlanta. A membership informational meeting is scheduled for Friday, June 19 at 7:00 pm at the Club. Economic: The local real estate is rebounding strongly with home prices increasing. Berkeley Hills Estates are now developing rapidly. A number of homes are currently under construction and the total of 119 could be completed over the next 24 months. In addition a number of smaller developments are occurring in the immediate club area and in nearby Historic Norcross. Golf/Membership: Golf Membership numbers and revenue has grown significantly over the last 18 months for the first time since the Great Recession. Junior Membership has grown from 40 to over 110 Full Golf Membership has increased over the last year versus a steady decline for several years Senior Golf Membership has also increased Member referrals have accounted for approximately 70% of the new members Members that left for greener pastures or due to financial reasons are returning Quality of Berkeley Hills golf course continues to be in the top tier in Georgia These factors, along with others, tell us that NOW is the time to make this investment into our club. We are fortunate that we can make this investment without assessing the current membership. We have met with our banking partners and they as well recognize the positive trends mentioned above. They are agreeable to providing funds of approximately $600,000 at very reasonable terms. These dollars would allow us to address needs in ALL areas of the club. Tightening the belt and moving cautiously over the past few years was clearly the prudent course. The Board feels that just as clearly, now is the time to make these investments in our club for the benefit of our current membership and to also provide the best chance to have BHCC flourish and drive membership growth going forward. The Board of Governors

I have said it many times and I will continue to say it. You are proving that the membership plan and referral program in place is working. Berkeley Hills C.C. is the talk on the street. Membership Directors from other clubs are hearing all about us and getting in touch with me asking what I m doing over here. Of course I give the credit where it is due. I tell them the majority of new members are referrals from our members, which is usually followed by a long pause and then with slight disbelief, Really? I have been a Membership Director at a few clubs over the past 15 years and I can honestly say the number of referrals at BHCC is uncommon. Even as far back as 2008 when the golf business took a hit. The letter from the Board pretty much says it all, so thank you again for your continued support. Remember the Referral Reward Program. When your referral joins the club you will receive a club credit on your account Full Golf - $100.00 Junior or Senior - $50.00 Sport - $25.00 When you have 3 golf members join, you will receive an additional $100.00 club credit. To refer a member just have them contact me directly and I will take it from there and let you know how much credit you will see on your account. They can email me at Tsims@berkeleyhillscc.org or (770) 248-2048. Keep up the great work. I look forward to seeing each of you at the club soon and often. Membership Director, Teresa Sims Back on May 11th, we aerified greens and everything went great. The greens are healing up nicely. One of the big questions I am getting is Are you going to be sanding the greens anymore? For all the new members that are asking, I wanted to write this article to explain why we do what we do. The hybrid bermuda we have is Champion Ultradwarf. Its growth habit is 95% stolons. Stolons are the runners you see with bermuda that runs along the top of the soil. Over time these runners will begin to grow over the top of each other, which is called thatch, and begin to create a sponge-like feeling to your feet. When this happens, the greens get really grainy and the mowers sink in and scalp. This is very detrimental to the grass and this is the reason why we sand. The sand gets into the canopy and stabilizes the putting surface at the same time reducing the grain and thatch. It is a necessary evil that has to be done. Unlike a lot of courses that sand on a regular basis, we sand only when needed and based around Monday outings and member tournaments. If you have any questions, please stop me and we can chat.
