TCU leads the league with 115, followed by Oklahoma State with 108 and Oklahoma with 101. TCU has tallied at least 10 strikeouts in six of the 12 games played this season. Three times, they have recorded 15 strikeouts. Brandon Finnegan s 33 strikeouts lead the nation. He has six more than his nearest competitors Frank Duncan (Kansas) and Harrison Musgrave (West Virginia). TURNING TWO TCU turned a trio of double plays in Saturday s 1-0 loss to Rice. On the season, the Horned Frogs have turned nine double plays. No one is better at inducing a double play than Preston Morrison. Five of the 10 double plays turned by the Frogs this season have come with Morrison on the mound. Over the course of his two-plus seasons in the Purple and White, Morrison has seen the defense turn 31 double plays. DUCKS ON THE POND Getting base runners has not been an issue for the Horned Frogs this season. Turning them into runs proved to be a little difficult this past weekend. In Friday s loss, the Frogs stranded 14 runners. Against Rice in a 1-0 loss, the Frogs left six runners on. TCU left an additional eight runners on in the win over Houston. In the Frogs 5-4 15-inning victory over Dallas Baptist, the Frogs left 16 runners on. On the season, the Frogs have stranded 116 runners, an average of almost 10 per game. Six times this season, the Frogs have left 10 or men on base. TCU has had at least one base runner in all but 24 innings this season. FLASHING HIS WHEELS Cody Jones got off to a blistering start in 2014. He has reached base safely in his first plate appearance eight times and scored four times. Thanks to a team-leading 11 walks and three hit by pitches, Jones boasts an impressive.466 on-base percentage. In addition to his prowess at the plate, Jones flashed his speed on the bases. He is a perfect 11-for-11 in steals, a mark that leads the Big 12 and ranks second nationally. Dating back to last season, he has stolen 17 straight bases successfully. For his career, Jones is 24-for-28. PLENTY OF NEW FACES ON THE DIAMOND Twelve Horned Frogs made their TCU debuts in the opening 11 games. Seven hitters at the plate and five pitchers on the mound got their first taste of playing baseball at TCU. On the mound, Tyler Alexander, Brian Howard, Jordan Kipper, Ryan Burnett and Brian Trieglaff pitched in their first collegiate games. At the plate, the Frogs saw the beginning of five careers. Making their debuts were Garrett Crain, Connor Castellano, Jeremie Fagnan, Dylan Delso, Ty Slanina, Walker Pennington and Will Fox. DYNAMIC DUO The Horned Frogs have one of the most dynamic 1-2 punches on the mound this season. The duo of Brandon Finnegan and Preston Morrison have yielded just six earned run this season in 43 2/3 combined innings. START ME UP TCU has used four starting pitchers this season. The quartet of Preston Morrison, Brandon Finnegan, Jordan Kipper and Tyler Alexander have done their jobs, boasting a 5-4 combined record with a 2.19 ERA. Overall, the group has allowed just 24 runs (18 earned) on 63 hits in 74 innings pitched. They have struck out 63 and walked just 11 while allowing opponents to hit.231 against them. SOLID DEFENSE The Horned Frogs put together a solid defensive weekend at the Houston College Classic. TCU committed just one error for a.991 fielding percentage. The Frogs have played three errorless ballgames this season. On the season, TCU ranks fifth in the Big 12 with a.973 fielding percentage. Despite ranking fifth, the Frogs are tied with Texas Tech and Texas with the third-fewest miscues this season. TCU s 10 double plays turned ranked fourth. In addition, the Frogs have surrendered just seven stolen bases. That is tied for the second-fewest in the league. FLEET OF FOOT The Horned Frogs leads the league with 25 stolen bases. Oklahoma State is close behind with 24. Cody Jones leads the pack with 11 stolen bases this season. Seven other Horned Frogs have contributed a stolen base this year. TCU has tallied at least one stolen base in all but two games this season. Four times this year the Frogs have stolen four bases in a game. EXTRA, EXTRA Tuesday night s 5-4 win over Dallas Baptist in 15 innings tied for the longest game in program history. TCU defeated Baylor with two outs in the bottom of the 15th on April 20, 2013. Ironically, Kyle Bacak was involved in both victories. He delivered the game-winning hit against the Bears and scored the game-winning run against the Patriots.
