Weber State defeated Western State 82-56 in the only exhibition game of the season on Monday. The Wildcats are coming off one of the best seasons in school history and finished 25-7 last year but lost three starters off last year s squad including All-American Damian Lillard who was taken with the sixth pick in the NBA Draft. MEDIA INFORMATION Friday s game will be broadcast live on FM-106.9 The Zone. Carl Arky, the 2011 Utah Sportscaster of the Year, will call all the action with Dutch Belnap providing color commentary. All Wildcat games this season will be broadcast on AM-1280 or FM-106.9 The Zone. Live streaming will be available at 1280thezone.com. WILDCATS CRUISE PAST WESTERN STATE IN EXHIBITION GAME Five players scored in double figures as the Weber State men s basketball team whipped up on Western State 82-56 Monday night at the Dee Events Center in the only exhibition game of the season for the Wildcats. Weber State never trailed in the game and led by as many as 37 points. Weber State jumped out to a quick 30-8 lead with under 10:00 to play in the first half and led 48-22 at halftime. Weber State shot 55 percent from the field in the first half and held the Mountaineers to 31 percent shooting. The lead was never less than 23 in the second half. Junior Davion Berry led the Wildcats with 15 points on 5-8 shooting. He also had three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 24 minutes of action. Junior Kyle Tresnak finished with 12 points, also on 5-8 shooting. Senior Scott Bamforth added 11 and Frank Otis had 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Sophomore Gelaun Wheelwright was the last Wildcat in double figures, finishing with 10. Freshman Joel Bolomoboy finished with nine points. SEASON OPENERS Weber State is 41-9 in season opening games. WSU defeated Northern New Mexico 109-50 in the season opener last season. The Wildcats are 30-3 all-time when opening the season at home. CATS START SEASON WITH HOME WINNING STREAK Weber State opens the 2012-13 season with a 17-game home winning streak. The Wildcats were a perfect 16-0 at home last season, their best home record in school history. The 17 straight home wins is tied for the sixth longest active home winning streak in the nation. The WSU school record for consecutive home wins is an incredible 46 straight wins which Weber State had from February 1964 to February 1967 under head coach Dick Motta. The WSU record for consecutive home wins in the Dee Events Center is 30 from December 1997 to January 2000. Weber State is 393-100 (.797) all-time at the Dee Events Center. Under Coach Randy Rahe the Wildcats are 75-11 (.872) at home and an incredible 44-4 at home in Big Sky Conference games. INJURY REPORT WSU junior forward Byron Fulton missed Monday s exhibition after having his right knee scoped. He will likely miss another one to two weeks of action. WILDCATS PICKED SECOND IN BIG SKY PRESEASON POLLS The University of Montana was picked to repeat as Big Sky men s basketball champions according to a preseason coaches and media polls. Weber State was picked second in both polls, marking the first time in five seasons that the Wildcats were not picked to win the conference title in the preseason polls. Montana, who posted a 15-1 conference record last season and won the conference tournament, garnered eight first place votes and 98 total points in the coaches polls. They had 24 first-place votes in the media poll and totaled 344 points. Weber State was second with 92 points in the coaches poll and had three firstplace votes. The Wildcats also had eight first-place votes in the media poll and totaled 318 points. Northern Colorado came in third in the coaches poll and fourth in the media poll. The University was founded in 1960 and has just 682 students. Arizona Christian sponsors 15 sports in the athletic department and are members of the Golden State Athletic Conference. The university was formerly known as Southwestern Conservative Baptist College and then Southwestern College before being named Arizona Christian University. Former NBA All-Star and NBA Coach Paul Westphal began his coaching career at then-southwestern College leading the school to a Christian College championship. The Firestorm posted an 11-16 record last season and were 9-3 in conference games. They lost four starters and seven letterwinners off last year s squad. Senior A.J. Koch, the lone returning starter, averaged 10.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game last season. The Firestorm have played one exhibition game and one regular season game this season. They defeated Cincinnati Christian College 100-51 in an exhibition game. They opened their season last Saturday with a 75-74 win at Northern New Mexico College. Daniel Cornelius led team with 23 points and eight rebounds. Koch added 15 points. Weber State opened the season against Northern New Mexico last November and defeated the Eagles 109-50. HEAD COACH JEFF RUTTER The Firestorm are coached by Jeff Rutter who is in his first season as head coach at Arizona Christian. Friday s game will also be his first career game as a head coach as Rutter was named head coach at Arizona Christian prior to this season. Prior to becoming head coach Rutter spent 10 seasons as an assistant coach at Azusa Pacific and two seasons as an assistant at California Baptist. SERIES HISTORY This will be the first meeting between Weber State and Arizona Christian. It will also be Weber State s first game against a team from the Golden State Athletic Conference. A LOOK BACK AT THE WEBER STATE 2011-12 SEASON Weber State is coming off one of the best seasons in schools history as the Wildcats finished with a 25-7 overall record and advanced to their fourth straight post-season tournament appearance. WSU finished second in the Big Sky regular season with a 14-2 record and advanced to the finals of the conference tournament. WSU advanced to the collegeinsider.com Postseason Tournament where they won a first round game. Weber State has won 10 or more conference games for six straight seasons. The Wildcats lost three players off last year s squad including Big Sky MVP and All-American Damian Lillard, who finished his career as one of the top players in Weber State and Big Sky history. Lillard finished second in the nation in scoring last season and became the first player in Big Sky history to be named to an All-American team. He leaves as Weber State s career leader in three-pointers and free throws made and is second in school history in career scoring and assists. Lillard was selected as the sixth overall selection in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Portland Trail Blazers. Also gone off last year s team are Kyle Bullinger and Darin Mahoney. The three Wildcats combined to play in 343 career games with the Wildcats. COACHING STAFF Weber State head coach Randy Rahe returns for his seventh season as head coach of the Wildcats. In six years Rahe has posted a career record of 120-68 at Weber State and is 74-22 in Big Sky Conference games. He has won 20 or more games in four of his six seasons with the Wildcats and has also won three Big Sky Conference titles. Returning with Rahe on the coaching staff are Associate Head Coach Eric Duft, and assistant coach Phil Beckner. New to the staff this season is assistant coach Keith Berard. Kadin Kirk was elevated as the Director of Basketball Operations after spending last season as video coordinator. RETURNING WILDCATS The Wildcats return seven players off last year s squad that won 25 games. Scott Bamforth (6-2, 190, Sr., G, Albuquerque, New Mexico) Bamforth returns for his senior season with the Wildcats. He has earned All-Big Sky honors in each of his first two seasons at Weber State, including Second Team All-Conference honors last year. Last season Bamforth started 31 games and averaged 14.5 points per game for the Wildcats while shooting 44 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point land and 88 percent from the free throw line. In 2010-11 he earned First Team honors and was named Big Sky Newcomer of the Year for his performance. He has played in 62 career games with the Wildcats and has a career average of 13.4 points per game. WeberStateSports.com 3

Frank Otis (6-6, 220, Sr., F, Oakland, CA) Frank Mook Otis returns for his senior season for the Wildcats after joining WSU before last season. As a junior he played in 12 games and started seven games for the Wildcats while battling knee injuries. In those 12 games Otis averaged 5.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He also shot a team-best 69 percent from the field. Byron Fulton (6-7, 235, Jr., F, Phoenix, Ariz.) Fulton returns for his junior season with the Wildcats. As a sophomore last season he appeared in all 32 games and averaged 7.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. He also shot 45 percent from the field and 43 percent from three-point range. In 2010-11 he was named the Big Sky Freshman of the Year. Fulton has played in 64 career games with the Wildcats, having never missed a game in his two seasons. Jordan Richardson (6-1, 185, Jr., G, Lewisville, Tex.) Jordan saw action in all 32 games for the Wildcats last season and returns for his junior season this year. He averaged 4.2 points and 2.1 assists per game last season. In his two year career he has not missed a game for the Wildcats and has seen action in 64 games, with 14 career starts. Kyle Tresnak (6-10, 255, Jr., C, Scottsdale, Ariz.) Tresnak returns for his junior season after earning All-Big Sky Honorable Mention honors as a sophomore last season. He started in all 32 games last season and averaged 10 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He also shot 54 percent from the field during the season. In 64 career games Tresnak has a career average of 6.8 points per game. James Hajek (6-10, 250, So., C, Omaha, NE) After red shirting one season Hajek played for the first time last season for the Wildcats. He appeared in 15 games before suffering a season-ending knee injury. In those 15 games he averaged 3.4 points and 2.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 53 percent from the field and 87 percent from the free throw line. Gelaun Wheelwright (6-1, 195, So., G., Corona, CA) Wheelwright played in 26 games for the Wildcats as a true freshman. He was initially scheduled to redshirt the season but was called into action after injuries. In his 26 games Wheelwright averaged 5.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per game. He scored a career-high 19 points in WSU s final game of the season at Loyola Marymount. He scored in double figures in four games during the season and shot 40 percent from the field.
