NOTICE OF RACE 1. Organising Authority 2. Venue The Organising Authority is the Southern New South Wales Sabot Sailing Association in conjunction with the Lane Cove 12 Foot Sailing Skiff Club (Club). 2.1 The venue for the Regatta is the Lane Cove 12 Foot Sailing Skiff Club, Stuart Street, Longueville, NSW 2066. 2.2 A rigging area and overnight storage will be available at the Club. 3. Rules 3.1 The Regatta will be governed by the current Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS), 2013 2016. 3.2 The Prescriptions and Special Regulations of Yachting Australia (YA), Yachting Australia Special Regulations Part 2, for Off the Beach Boats will apply. 3.3 The Sabot Class Rules will apply. These rules are the Constitution, Bylaws, Rules of Measurement, Builders Guide of Sabot Class Dinghies in Australia Revision W Issued 18/09/2010 by the Australian National Sabot Council, plus any amendments passed since by postal ballot prior to 31st December 2012. 3.4 Subject to the approval of the Race Committee a boat chartered or loaned for the Regatta may declare at the time of entry or registration a sail number which may be different from the registered number of the hull provided that the number declared shall not be the sail number of any other boat competing in the regatta (References RRS 77, Appendix G3). Sails with sail numbers belonging to another boat that have been suffixed with an extra digit will not be accepted. Boats shall display the same declared identification numbers on all sails used. 3.5 Each Sabot entered in the Junior Division in the Regatta shall display on its transom the numeral two in contrasting colour to the hull, minimum 50mm high with at least an 8mm-brush stroke. 3.6 Further amendments to the rules may be set out in the Sailing Instructions. 4. Scoring and Penalty System 4.1 The Low Point scoring system of RRS Appendix A will apply. 4.2 Six races are scheduled. 4.3 Three races must be completed to constitute a series. 4.4 When only three or four races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores. 4.5 When five to six races have been completed, a boat s series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
4.6 A boat that has taken a penalty under RRS 44.1 & 44.2 shall complete an acknowledgement form at the race office within the protest time limit. 5. Eligibility 5.1 All competitors are reminded of their obligations under RRS 78.1 which states: A boat s owner and any other person in charge shall ensure that the boat is maintained to comply with her class rules and that her measurement or rating certificate, if any remains valid. 5.2 All Sabots shall be entered and crewed by financial members of a sailing club and must be members of Yachting Australia and registered with either the Southern NSW Sabot Sailing Association or the Northern NSW Sabot Sailing Association. 5.3 Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third party liability insurance with a minimum cover of AUD$10,000,000. All Sabots must present a copy of a current insurance certificate at registration. 5.4 Racing will be in two divisions: Junior division: Sailors must sail 2 up (i.e. with both skipper and crew). The age limit for both skipper and crew is up to and including the sailing season in which he/she has his/her 12th birthday. Forward hands are to sheet the boat at all times except in extenuating circumstances and in the true spirit of fair sailing. Senior division: Sailors must sail 1 up (i.e. single handed). The age limit is from the sailing season in which the skipper has his/her 11th birthday until the sailing season in which the skipper has his/her 16th birthday, both seasons inclusive. Option: Sailors have the option of sailing Senior 1 up or Junior 2 up during the sailing seasons in which they have their 11th or 12th birthday, but having sailed as a 1 up Senior cannot return to sailing in the Junior Division. Sailing season is defined as 1/7/2012 to 30/6/2013 5.5 Eligible boats may enter online at: http://www.lc12ftssc.org.au/ 5.6 Entries open 1 January 2013. 5.7 Entries for the Regatta will be accepted at the standard fee up to midnight 9 February 2013. After this date a late entry fee of $10 will apply. 5.8 Fees for the Regatta are as follows: Senior (one up) $30 Junior (two up) $45 5.9 Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the Organising Authority. If required, the Organising Authority will supply advertising items to be affixed as described in the Sailing Instructions. 5.10 By entering the Regatta competitors are consenting to:
being photographed and/or videotaped whilst sailing or racing and/or using the Regatta facilities; and to the use, reuse, publication and reproduction of such images in any media, in conjunction with the competitors name or not, without compensation and without the competitors approval of such images or any use thereof. 5.11 It is the competitor's decision to enter the Regatta or to start and continue in any race; see RRS 4, Decision to Race. 5.12 It will be a condition of registration and entry that the parents/guardians of a competitor execute a disclaimer of liability and an acknowledgement of receipt of a risk warning under the Civil Liability Act (NSW) 2004. The disclaimer and the risk warning will form part of the registration documents. 6. Schedule 6.1 The schedule for the Regatta is as follows: Saturday 16 February Registration will commence at 12pm. No racing before 2pm. Up to three races will be sailed. Sunday 17 February 11am dash for cash to start line. No racing before 12pm. Up to five races will be sailed. Presentation and dinner at the Club after racing. 6.2 On Sunday 17 February there will be a dash for cash to the start line in the harbour. This race will start off the Club at 11am. Prizes are as set out below. 6.3 The race committee may elect to sail more than the scheduled number of races on any day and as a result may amend the time of the warning signal for the first race of that day. If the race committee decides to sail another race after completion of the day s scheduled race(s) this will be signalled by flying Code Flag L from the finish boat. 6.4 No warning on the last day of racing will be made after 1600 hrs. 7. Sailing Instructions, Racing Area and Courses 7.1 Sailing Instructions will be available for download on 9 th February 2013 from: http://www.lc12ftssc.org.au 7.2 Races will be sailed:
on Saturday 16 February on the waters of the Lane Cove River on Sunday 17 February on an area of Sydney Harbour bounded by Cockatoo Island, Longnose Point and Balmain Sailing Club. 7.3 Courses will, to the extent possible having regard to the limitations of the sailing waters, be of triangle and windward/leeward configuration as set out in the Sailing Instructions. 8. Prizes 8.1 Prizes and trophies will be awarded for 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd, 4 th and 5 th in each division. 8.2 Dash for cash: Cash prizes will be awarded to the first three finishers in each division. 9.
