San Jose has won two out of the first three games in the series. D.J. Snelten (0-0, ---) is slated to make the start on the mound for the Giants today. After the current series in Lancaster, the Giants travel to Visalia for a three-game set versus the Rawhide beginning tomorrow. San Jose home opener is scheduled for Thursday against the Bakersfield Blaze. Struggles At The Hangar A win today would give the Giants their first series victory at The Hangar since they swept a fourgame set in 2011 (August 11-14). Despite wins the last two nights, San Jose is just 6-12 in their last 18 games in Lancaster dating back to the start of the 2012 season. LAST GAME April 11 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 - R H E San Jose 3 0 0 3 2 0 0 0 0-8 13 1 Lancaster 0 0 0 1 1 0 0 1 0-3 10 3 WP: Jones (1-0) LP: Grills (0-1) S: None Tyler Horan hit a three- run home run in the top of the first inning and the Giants never looked back en route to an 8-3 victory over the JetHawks. Ben Turner (3- for- 4, 2 2B, RBI) and Rafael Rodriguez (3- for- 4, 2B) had three hits apiece to lead a 13- hit San Jose offensive attack. Four Giants pitchers Keury Mella, Christian Jones, Jeff Soptic and Mason McVay combined to strikeout 15 hitters in the contest. Mella fanned seven batters and allowed just one run over the first four innings while Jones (2 IP, 1 R) was credited with the win in relief. Strong Starting Pitching Through the first three games of the season, San Jose starting pitchers (Tyler Beede, Chase Johnson and Keury Mella) have combined to throw 13 innings with just one run allowed (0.69 ERA). The trio has allowed 11 hits, walked two and struck out 13. Arroyo s Fast Start Shortstop Christian Arroyo is off to a fast start at the plate for the Giants. In his first three games, Arroyo is 6-for-14 (.429) with three RBI s. His four doubles lead the California League. Arroyo, 19, is the youngest player on San Jose s roster. San Francisco Affiliation This year marks San Jose s 28th season as an affiliate of the San Francisco Giants the longest partnership of any team in the California League. Since their inception in 1988, the San Jose Giants have won six league championships (1998, 2001, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010) and qualified for the playoffs 20 times (in 27 seasons). The Giants enter this year having posted 11 consecutive winning seasons (2004-2014) the longest streak in California League history. 174 former San Jose Giants have reached the major leagues. Top Prospects Six players on San Jose s opening day roster are among the top 30 prospects in the organization according to Baseball America, including four out of the six pitchers in the Giants starting rotation. San Jose players among the top 30 prospects include: pitcher Tyler Beede (#2), pitcher Keury Mella (#4), shortstop Christian Arroyo (#10), pitcher Chase Johnson (#20), pitcher Luis Ysla (#21) and third baseman Ryder Jones (#30). Returning Players 13 of the 25 players on the opening day roster have prior experience in San Jose. Notable returnees include first baseman Brian Ragira, who led the 2014 club in home runs (20) and RBI s (82). Ragira hit 15 home runs after the All-Star break last season. Returning outfielder Tyler Horan smacked 10 home runs in just 28 games to go with a.321 batting average for the Giants last year. Catcher Ben Turner, infielder Brandon Bednar and outfielders Jesus Galindo and Ryan Lollis were also key regulars for San Jose in 2014 and have returned this season. Other returnees include pitchers Martin Agosta, Ian Gardeck, Mason McVay, Jake Smith, Jeff Soptic and Nick Vander Tuig and catcher Matt Paré. High Draft Picks San Francisco s last two first round draft picks are on San Jose s roster: shortstop Christian Arroyo (25th overall selection in 2013) and starting pitcher Tyler Beede (14th overall selection in 2014). Arroyo was a Northwest League All-Star last season while playing for the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes. He finished the year ranked second in the league in batting average (.333) to go with five home runs and 48 RBI s in 58 games. Beede enters the year with only 15 1/3 innings of professional experience after signing last July. Third baseman Ryder Jones (2nd round, 2013), starting pitcher Martin Agosta (2nd round, 2012), starting pitcher Chase Johnson (3rd round, 2013), first baseman Brian Ragira (4th round, 2013) and reliever Dan Slania (5th round, 2013) were also drafted in the first five rounds by the San Francisco Giants. Today s Opponent: Lancaster JetHawks The Lancaster JetHawks, an affiliate of the Houston Astros, won their second California League championship in three years last season. Lancaster finished the 2014 regular season with a 78-62 record. The JetHawks defeated Visalia three-games-to-two in the California League Championship Series last September.
