Scott Sandfort Director of Golf The April TTT is always a great signal for me that the golf season will quickly be in full swing. As such, I wanted to point out a few highlights for the upcoming month. Friday, April 4 th, we will host Taylor Made, Cleveland, Ping, and Callaway from 2:00-6:00 for a demo day at the range. This date is also the Happy Hour, so come a little early and test all the new clubs. The next week, April 11 th, Titleist will be here at the same times with the new Vokey wedges, AP irons, and the 913 lineup of woods and hybrids. Opening Day quickly follows on April 26 th. This event is truly a great way to kick off the season, renew acquaintances, and meet new members. If you are new to Algonquin, this event is a must! The day after Men s Opening Day is All Sports Sign Up. That afternoon, interested families can learn more about our swimming, tennis, and Jr. Golf programs as well as sign up for the different activities. One enhancement I would like to mention about Jr. Golf is the additional instruction component we have added this year. We are taking a page from Swim Coach Kevin Mabie s book, and including two golf lessons for each junior as part of our program. The lessons may be taken individually, or with friends and can be scheduled anytime between May 1 st and the end of the Jr. Golf season in August. We feel this change will give our golf professionals more one on one time with the juniors in an effort to enhance their skills and love for the game. We have some fun and interesting activities planned for the upcoming season. Please take a look at the Front Nine e-mails we send out each week as well as the AGC website and ForeTees homepage to keep up on all the activities throughout the year. Prepare for Launch Monitor Mike Leech Assistant Golf Professional This spring the words Launch Angle will be repeated over and over again to anyone watching a PGA Tour event. Launch Angle is referring to how high the golf ball is launching off of your driver, basically how high you hit your driver. Golf Professionals have known for a while now that in order for a player to maximize their distance you want the ball spinning less and launching higher off of your driver. All of these things are measured by launch monitors. This year the AGC Golf Staff has the benefit of a launch monitor. By adding a launch monitor we can fit your driver to just the right amount of loft and shaft stiffness. Also, if you have purchased a new driver in the last three years chances are that driver is adjustable to a certain degree. If you would like us to look at your current driver and make some adjustment recommendations we would be happy to do so. The new launch monitor will also open up new doors for us in the way of instruction. Things such as angle of attack, club path and club head speed are sometimes hard to gauge by the naked eye, but now with the assistance of the launch monitor we can nail down areas for improvement. This technology is the same technology found in golf simulators at the big box stores. Now we have that same capability with the advantage of seeing your entire ball flight. The launch monitor has been on our wish list for a long time and we are very excited about this added capability. When you see us on the range pull us aside, we ll be happy to show it off. 5
