2017 JKA Canadian National Championship ELIGIBILITY Open to all Canadian residents from ages 9 years and older who hold the rank of 3rd Kyu and above in the member Dojos of JKA-SKD Canada or CJKF. All competitors must have a valid JKA membership. Junior teams can have a mix of males and females. Teams can have a mix of Brown and Black belts, but will compete in the Black Belt category. If any team member is 19 & older, that team must compete in the adult category. TOURNAMENT RULES The JKA rules will be used at the tournament, subject only to necessary variations. See: http://www.jka.or.jp/english/news/manual.html Please note that mouthguards and white fist protectors are mandatory for contestant in kumite events. Safety glasses are not allowed in kumite events. Allowed for kata. A Repechage system will be used for individual Kata and Kumite events and contestants will be seeded based on the results from the previous Canadian JKA National Championship results. A Single Elimination system will be used for juniors if time is limited. Individual Kata: Brown & Black Belt Junior 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 yrs old category - Preliminary matches (until the final 8) o FLAG SYSTEM; one kata by random draw from: Heian Shodan, Nidan, Sandan, Yondan, Godan, Tekki Shodan - - Final matches (Final 8) o POINT SYSTEM; the contestant must choose one kata from the following: Bassai-Dai, Kanku-Dai, Jion, Enpi, Jitte, Hangetsu, Gankaku Brown & Black Belt Adults, 16-18, 19-21 years old - Preliminary matches (until the final 8 for Brown belts; final 16 for Black o FLAG SYSTEM; SHITEI KATA one kata by random draw from: Heian Shodan, Nidan, Sandan, Yondan, Godan, Tekki Shodan - Semi-final matches (for Black belts final 16) o FLAG SYSTEM; SENTEI KATA one kata by random draw from: Bassai-Dai, Kanku-Dai, Jion, Enpi - Final matches (Final 8) O POINT SYSTEM; TOKUI KATA the contestant must choose one kata from: Bassai-dai, Kanku-Dai, Jion, Enpi, Jitte, Hangetsu, Gankaku, Tekki Nidan, Tekki Sandan, Bassai-sho, Kanku-sho, Nijushiho, Sochin, Meikyo, Gojushiho-sho, Gojushiho-dai, Unsu, Chinte, Wankan. 4

Tiebreak Rule for Kata Matches (Item 39 JKA Rules) FLAG SYSTEM: The Head Judge will randomly choose another kata to be performed by the 2 contestants. POINT SYSTEM: The contestants will perform the same kata again. If there is still a draw, the lowest score that was dropped will be added for a total score. If there is still a draw, the highest score that was dropped will be added as well for a total score. If finally there is still a draw, the competitors will perform a different kata. Individual Kumite: All Brown & Black Belts - Shobu Ippon Kumite (One Point System Free Sparring), 2 minute match o Tiebreak Rule for Shobu Ippon Kumite (Item 24 JKA Rules): If there is a draw, another match will be held. This re-match is called Sai-Shiai. If this re-match ends up in a draw, a sudden death match will be held (i.e., the competitor that scores first is declared a winner). - Three Competitors Rule for Kumite events: In the case where there are only three competitors in an event, a Double Elimination system will be used. NOTE: White gloves and mouth guard are required for each contestant. Colored gloves (e.g., blue or red) nor safety glasses are not permitted. Team Kata: Brown & Black Belt Junior - POINT SYSTEM; the contestant must choose one kata from the following: Bassai-Dai, Kanku-Dai, Jion, Enpi, Jitte, Hangetsu, Gankaku Brown & Black Belt Adults - POINT SYSTEM; the contestant must choose one kata from the following: Bassai-dai, Kanku-Dai, Jion, Enpi, Jitte, Hangetsu, Gankaku, Tekki Nidan, Tekki Sandan, Bassai-sho, Kanku-sho, Nijushiho, Sochin, Meikyo, Gojushiho-sho, Gojushiho-dai, Unsu, Chinte, Wankan. NOTE: Same rule for Tiebreak Rule for point system in Kata Matches on page 5 applies. 5

Additional information: JKA Tournament Rules & Regulations Item 25 (JKA Rules) Criteria Leading to Disqualification (Hansoku) The following elements are forbidden: a. Excessive contact b. Performing dangerous throws and where joints are involved c. Wasting time by not attacking d. Using provocative language and attitude, or verbal taunting e. Purposely attacking after stop (Yame) or out of bounds (Jogai) is called f. Head butt attack g. Spear hand or Nukite attack h. Purposely attacking the groin area SELECTION CRITERIA FOR FUTURE INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENTS: Contestants will be awarded points based on their placement at the Canadian National Championship. Total points from Canadian National Championships prior to an International Championship and points from the latest Gichin Funakoshi World Cup and Pan American Championship will be used to determine the top placing individuals in Kata and Kumite. Refer to the document Canadian JKA Team Selection Criteria - last revised August 15, 2016, for more details. 6

I understand and agree that this Release will have the effect of releasing, discharging, waiving and forever relinquishing any and all actions, those causes of action that I may have or have had, whether past, present or future, whether now known or unknown and whether anticipated or unanticipated by me, arising out of my participation at the 2017 JKA Canadian National Championship. This Release shall be binding upon me, my heirs, successors, administrators, assigns and legal representatives. I assume full responsibility for any and all risk of death or personal injury or property damage, which I may suffer while participating at the.
