Boston Red Sox (60-48) vs. LOS ANGELES DODGS (60-49) LHP Eduardo Rodriguez (2-4, 5.91) vs. RHP Ross Stripling (2-3, 4.14) Saturday, Aug. 6, 2016 1:05 p.m. PT Dodger Stadium Los Angeles, CA Game 110 Home Game 55 (33-21) Day Game 28 (18-9) TV: FS1/SNLA/SNLA Spanish Radio: AM 570 (Eng.)/KTNQ 1020 AM (Span.)/AM 1540 (Kor.) MORE THAN A FEELING: The Dodgers continue their 10-day, ninegame homestand today with the second of three games against the Red Sox following last night s 9-0 defeat. The clubs last met in 2013, when the Red Sox took two of three games at Dodger Stadium, and Boston holds an 8-5 advantage in the all-time series. Los Angeles still trails the Giants by 2.0 games in the divisional race, and continues to lead the NL Wild Card chase, 2.0 games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals and Miami Marlins. Following the Boston series, the Phillies and Pirates come to Dodger Stadium for three games apiece. The Dodgers have the third-best home record in the National League at 33-21 (.611), behind only the Cubs 37-17 (.685) and Nationals (32-20,.615). After opening the season by going 9-12 in their first 21 games at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers are 24-9 at home since May 17. Los Angeles is 18-9 (.667) in its 27 day games this year, the second-best mark in the Majors (San Francisco, 26-12,.684). The Dodgers are scoring over a run more per game in day games (5.30 R/G) than night games (4.02 R/G). BANGED UP: Prior to any roster moves today, the Dodgers have had 25 players on the disabled list this year, the most ever by a National League club (also: 2015 Mets) and the second most by any team in the last 30 years since 1987, behind only the 2012 Red Sox (27) Brett Anderson (herniated disc surgery) is expected to make his third rehab start on Monday for Triple-A Oklahoma City at Iowa. Anderson threw 64 pitches in his last outing on Aug. 2 with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga, allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits and striking out eight in 4.0 innings. SATURDAY SIX PACK(S): Yasmani Grandal has hit safely in his last six games since July 29, going 9-for-22 (.409) with a double, a triple, two homers and seven RBI. He has 10 homers in his last 25 games since June 30, leading the NL, while batting.329 (27-for-82) with a.439 onbase percentage, a.732 slugging percentage and 18 RBI in that span. Since June 30, he s raised his overall batting average by 49 points (from.178 to.227). Justin Turner has hit safely in his last six games, going 9-for- 24 (.375) with six doubles, a homer and five RBI since July 30, and in 47 games since June 10, he leads the NL with 15 homers and ranks second with 44 RBI, one behind the Rockies Carlos Gonzalez. Turner s.663 slugging percentage since June 10 trails only Arizona s Jake Lamb (.671). TOO GOOD: With 19 home runs, Corey Seager is tied with Hanley Ramirez (2013) for the most home runs by a shortstop in Los Angeles Dodgers history. The franchise mark is 22, set by Glenn Wright in 1930. Seager s next home run will put him in elite company as well, as he would become just the eighth rookie in franchise history to reach 20 home runs, joining Mike Piazza (35, 1993), Joc Pederson (26, 2015), Del Bissonette (25, 1928), Johnny Frederick (24, 1929), Frank Howard (23, 1960), Greg Brock (20, 1983) and Eric Karros (20, 1992). Seager is tied with Eric Karros (1992) for the Los Angeles Dodger rookie single-season doubles record with 30. The franchise rookie record is 52, set by Johnny Frederick in 148 games in 1929. Overall, he ranks among the NL s best in runs (71, T-3 rd ), hits (128, 5 th ), doubles (30, T-2 nd ) and batting average (.303, 12 th ). START PRACTICING: On Thursday at Dodger Stadium, Ellen and Clayton Kershaw will host the Fourth Annual Ping Pong 4 Purpose celebrity ping pong tournament benefitting Kershaw s Challenge. The charity, which was founded in 2011, partners with organizations both locally and abroad who are on the front lines of change in the lives of vulnerable and at-risk children. Dodger players and celebrities are expected to attend, and ticketing information can be found online at KershawsChallenge.com. MATCHUP vs. RED X Dodgers: 2 nd, NL West (2.0 GB) Red Sox: 3 rd, AL East (2.0 GB) All-Time: LA trails series, 5-8 (4-3 at Dodger Stadium) All-Time Interleague: 154-175 (89-73 at Dodger Stadium) 2016 Interleague: 6-9 (3-5 at Dodger Stadium) Aug. 5 at LA: L, 0-9 W: Wright L: Kazmir HILLTOPPS: Dodger pitchers lead the Majors with 1,022 strikeouts and are on pace to set a club record for Ks, averaging 9.33 strikeouts per 9.0 innings (previous best: 8.69 /9 in 2015). Los Angeles also ranks among the Majors best in WHIP (1.13, 2nd) and ranks second with a.225 opponents batting average, behind only the Cubs.215 mark. Los Angeles relievers lead the Majors in opponents average (.206), on pace to be the lowest mark in franchise history and rank as the seventh-lowest all-time bullpen mark (since 1920) Source: Stats, LLC. Dodger relievers also lead the Majors in WHIP (1.07), and rank fourth in A (3.14, 131 /375.1 IP). Individually, Kenley Jansen leads NL relievers in A (1.34) and WHIP (0.66, 1 st MLB), while ranking second in opponents batting average (.150) and tying for second in saves (32). Pedro Baez places third in both average (.159) and WHIP (0.81), while Joe Blanton has the fourth lowest opponents batting average (.162) and ties for fourth in WHIP (0.86). Ross Stripling was recalled earlier today and will be making his ninth-career MLB start and first since May 19 against the Angels. Stripling, 26, has gone 1-0 with a 1.54 A (2 /11.2 IP) and a.195 opponents batting average (8-for-41) in his last four big league games, which have all been relief appearances. MILESTONE WATCH: Adrián González is one home run away from 300 for his career and would become just the seventh active player to reach 300 homers and 400 doubles (402 in his career), joining Alex Rodriguez, Adrian Beltre, Carlos Beltran, Albert Pujols, David Ortiz and Miguel Cabrera. GOLDEN GLOVEWORK: Despite their two errors last night, the Dodgers continue to rank third in the Majors in team fielding percentage (.988), behind only the Nationals and Astros, and their 49 errors are the third fewest in baseball. DON T LOOK BACK: While the Dodgers and Red Sox have only played four series since the advent of Interleague play, the clubs are closely connected on the field, in the dugout and in the front office. Adrián González played two seasons in Boston in 2011-12 prior to being acquired by the Dodgers in a nine-player trade in August 2012, Rich Hill pitched four seasons for Boston in 2010-12 and 15 and newlyacquired outfielder Josh Reddick was drafted by the Red Sox in 17 th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft and played three seasons in Boston from 2009-11. The connections also run deep on the Dodger staff, starting at the top with manager Dave Roberts, who played one season for the Red Sox in 2004 and was a key contributor to the club s World Series run. In addition, bullpen coach Josh Bard played one season in Boston in 2006, bench coach Bob Geren managed for three seasons in the Red Sox farm system (1995-96, 98), first base coach George Lombard coached in the Red Sox system for parts of six seasons (minor league outfield and baserunning coordinator, manager of the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Red Sox and hitting coach of the Low-A Lowell Spinners) and assistant hitting coach Tim Hyers spent the last seven seasons in the Red Sox organization as Boston s minor league hitting coordinator (2013-15) and as the club s area scout for the state of Georgia (2009-12). At the upper levels of the front office, Sr. Vice President of Baseball Operations Josh Byrnes (Boston s assistant general manager from 2003-05), Vice President, Amateur & International Scouting David Finley (spent 13 years in Red Sox front office) and Director Player Personnel Galen Carr (15 seasons as a Red Sox scout) passed through Boston on their way to Los Angeles.
