APPLICATION FOR COACHING POSITIONS - VJBL 2017/2018 INTRODUCTION The Craigieburn Basketball Association Championship Program strives to provide a culture and environment that creates a strong team bond between players and between the Club, administrators, coaches and players, where enjoyment of the game comes through playing the game at the highest level. In 2018 the program will be built around a transparent curriculum (for players and coaches), focused on skill development, game performance and strength and conditioning programs. The appointment to all coaching positions is made subject to successful working with children and police checks. 2018 CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON Coaches are sought for the following championship teams for the 2018 championship season. Under 12 (2007-2006) 1st, 2nd and 3rd Under 14 (2005-2004) 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Under 16 (2003-2002) 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Under 18 (2001-2000) 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th The Coaching Selection Panel will appoint up to two coaches for each team comprising a Head Coach and an Assistant Coach. Where two or more coaches of equal standing apply for the same position, preference may be given to the coach with a higher accreditation or a willingness to undertake such accreditation. Additionally, the selection panel as a deciding factor may use the continuity of a coach from a bottom age group to a top age group if it is deemed to be in the best interest of the players and the team. Head Coach: The Head Coach of each team will show leadership and mentoring capabilities and be responsible for the selection of players in consultation and collaboration with other relevant Club Officials taking into account individual player history and trials process. The Head Coach will work closely with the Association in the setting and agreeing of team goals, the establishment and implementation of skill development, game and performance for the team and will also set individual goals for players within the team. The Head Coach must conduct Sunday skills session every six (6) weeks for age group. These dates are to be sent to the Administrator via email, by 30th October for the VJBL season. The reporting line for the Head Coach is to the Club Administrator for all matters in relation to any team. The Head Coach must report to the Club Administrator via email, any non-attendance of trainings and/or games. The Head Coach must appoint a team manger by 30th October with details (name, mobile number and email address) to be provided to the Club Administrator. Assistant Coach: The Assistant Coach for each team will support the Head Coach in all aspects of coaching while developing their own coaching expertise. The Assistant Coaches reporting line is to the Head Coach.
The Assistant Coach must report to the Head Coach via email, any non-attendance of trainings and/or games and conduct Sunday skills session every six (6) weeks for age group. Communication and interpersonal skills - to be approachable and work assertively with players in the age group to deliver a clear, engaging and effective presentation within a training and game day forum. To communicate effectively with others including parents, peers and relevant basketball officials. 3. Planning and organizing skills to determine goals, plan and prepare appropriate skills, drills, strategic plays and activities that meet the fitness and skill needs of individuals and the team during training sessions and games. 4. Observation skills of individuals and groups to identify learning needs, and corrective strategies demonstrating a commitment to player and team development. 5. Problem solving skills and techniques to identify and manage inappropriate behavior. To recognize and accommodate the needs and differences of individual players with varying ability levels in the same team. 6. Team work skills to work effectively with players, parents and relevant basketball officials as the leader of the team. To consult with peers and other relevant Club or external personnel on opportunities for ongoing development and improvement. 7. Self management skills to manage time, seek feedback from relevant others, reflect on personal style and identify opportunities for improvement. To have the capacity and humility to accept the need to change in pursuit of improvement. 8. Assistant Coach - the Head Coach will be involved in the selection of the Assistant Coach for their team. Where two or more coaches of equal standing apply for the same position, preference may be given to the assistant coach with a higher accreditation or a willingness to undertake such accreditation. Assistant Coach 1. Prior coaching experience as an assistant championship coach and/or domestic team coach. 2. Communication and interpersonal skills -to be approachable, work with the head coach and players in the age group to deliver a clear, engaging and effective presentation within a training and game day forum.
