It happened on Tuesday, November 6 th, in his 3 rd game of the night in the Winnipeg Senior Men s League at Laverendrye Lanes. Snyder s games were 238, 259, 300, and 226 for a 4-game series of 1023! And if you do the arithmetic, he had a 3-game series of 797 just 3 pins short of an 800 series! Snyder, is a no-thumber, and is a lefty who throws with a lot of revs and speed. His last three strikes in the 10 th were all picture-perfect. Well Done Jon!!! 1

Winnipeg s First 300 of the Season! A T T E N T I O N C O A C H E S The Manitoba Tenpin Federation is offering to arrange the following CTF National Coaching Certification Program (N.C.C.P.) Technical / Practical Courses: The course date and bowling centre location will be determined to accommodate the course participants. Community Sport -Requires 8-10 participants $40.00 Intro to Competition -Requires 6-8 participants $75.00 Competition Development -Requires 6-8 participants $100.00 Robbie Scerbo rolled our first perfect game of the season. On Tuesday, Sept 25th, in the Winnipeg Senior Men s League at Laverendrye Lanes. Scerbo threw games of 192, 212, 300, and 191. Because the teams change lanes every game, he rolled his perfecto on lanes 13-14, which incidentally, most right-handers call one of the most difficult pairs in the centre. If you have a group of interested coaches or would like to register individually and be put on our waiting list until enough coaches have registered, then contact our office at 925-5705. Please register A.S.A.P. as space is limited. Congratulations Robbie!! 2 47

See page 49 for more info. 46 Congratulations to Raul Bulaong, a smooth left-hander, who rolled a perfect game on Friday, March 10 th in the Friday Pinoy League at Bowl Below. He looks pretty happy, doesn t he? Well Done Raul!! ----------------------------------------------- The Davis s are Hot! 1. On February 3 during the Golfer s League at Chateau, Kyle Davis bowled a 270 game, which was 100 pins over average. He ll be getting a watch from CTF for that accomplishment! 2. Then on Sunday, March 26th, during the Eric Young Memorial tournament, Michelle Davis, only in her second year ever bowling, bowled all her games over 100 for the first time, going 75 pins over average, all while setting some other personal records she bowled her second highest single game ever and her highest three-game series ever. Along with that Kyle Davis bowled 125 pins over average. Together the two helped our team stay in the hunt. 3

299 Oh So Close! 2019 Canadian Tenpin Federation National Tournaments Canadian Team Trials May 16-20, 2019 Montreal, QC (see page 44) Canadian Youth Championships May 29 - June 2, 2019 Edmonton, Alberta Tyler Groening came oh so close to his first-ever perfect game - only a 7-pin stopped him on his last ball. On Sept. 22/18, in the Chateau Lanes Youth League, in the second game of his 3-game series, he rolled a 299 game. Canadian Mixed Championships November 21-24, 2019 - Campbell River, B.C. Groening is only in his 3 rd complete year of bowling and has made tremendous strides in a relatively short period of time. Congratulations and keep at it Tyler. That 300 game will happen before you know it! 4 45

Please confirm your participation ASAP as space is limited. 44 Rob Dufreane came out of the gate hot, starting with the first 11 strikes in his first game of the night in the 59 ers League at Chateau Lanes on Wed, Oct 24th. On his 12th shot, it wasn t meant to be. He hit the pocket, but the 10-pin remained standing, leaving him with a 299 game. Dufreane has had 5 perfect games in his career, so the feeling wasn t new to him in the 10th. It felt great off my hand, and I knew it had a chance, but it didn t seem to face up like the other ones he said. Great Bowling Rob!! 5

Marinelli is Back!!! Brandon (L-R): Bob Freeman, Len Howell, Rosa Van de Mosselair, Kim Karlicki, Sandy Vanderhulst, Derek Radics. Missing: Amanda Matskiw, Wally Matskiw. Denis Marinelli, who is a well-known local bowler, has returned to bowling after a two-year absence. His goal when he stopped bowling was to rehabilitate and strengthen his back, which had been giving him serious problems, and then try bowling again. Well, I d say that he has done a great job. In less than two months back at the lanes, this smooth left-hander has returned to form. On Wed, Oct 17th, in the 59 ers League at Chateau Lanes, Marinelli rolled a terrific 792 series, with games of 267, 268, and 257. And he has done this by just easing himself back in to bowling, as this is his only league at this time. I guess it s like riding a bike you never forget. Congratulations Denis & Welcome Back!! 6 43

Kristen Jolly rolls a New Career High Game The Bowling Hall of Fame of Manitoba held their 30 th Induction Ceremony on the evening of October 28 th,. We tried something different this year. Instead of including the Hall of Fame induction with the MTF Awards event, a separate wine and cheese semi-formal gathering took place in the evening and from all accounts, the format was a success, with over 115 patrons in attendance for the presentation. This year s induction was Lynne Gauthier, a well-known local and national athlete, who has been bowling competitively for over 20 years, with lots of successes and achievements, including being a ten-time member of Team Canada, a 15-time Manitoba Female Bowler of the Year and winning many medals representing Canada in international competition. Kristen Jolly, who has become quite a force in the Youth Program (she is a Junior), bowled her highest single game ever in her league on Monday, April 9th, at Laverendrye Lanes. It was a 268!!! And by the way, she also had a Clean Series for the night too! Sounds like she s getting primed for the upcoming Youth Nationals! Not only is she being inducted for her Individual Achievements, but also for Meritorious Service, as she has given back to the bowling community through her many years of service on the Manitoba Classic Bowlers Association, Manitoba Bowling Association, Manitoba Tenpin Federation and more recently, her commitment to coaching in our youth programs. Congratulations Lynne! Congratulations Kristen! 10 39

First 200 Game and First 500 Series Ever! NEW INDUCTEE Congratulations to Connor Ashdown, who reached two new career milestones on February 26th. Lynne Gauthier Individual Achievement & Meritorious Service 38 The 142-average bowler, rolled his first-ever 200 game, and his first-ever 500 series (513 total) while competing in the Laverendrye II League at Laverendrye Lanes. His 200-game also won him a Clean Game Award Congratulations Connor! 11

Korozsi Rolls Her First Career 600 Series! Do you want to know? In the MBA Youth Team Challenge tournament that was held on April 14 th at Chateau Lanes, Stéphanie Korozsi achieved a milestone in her bowling career. She rolled her first-ever 600 series. And helped her team win the Gold Medal in the tournament as well. This talented bowler, who one coach affectionately called The Spare Queen for several years, has made several changes to her game this year, which are obviously paying off! Congratulations Stéphanie! 12 Who needs a spare for their league? What is happening in the bowling community? Where you can find used bowling equipment for sale? When upcoming tournaments are? Why a league should be sanctioned? How you can improve your bowling skills? You can find answers to these and much more when you join one or both of our Facebook groups. Information pertaining more to Winnipeg bowlers can be found on the Winnipeg Tenpin Bowlers group at www.facebook.com/groups/bowlingmanitoba/ 37

Winnipeg Tenpin Bowling Association Promotion Continues Youth Team Challenge Champions In order to encourage our local bowlers to report on the accomplishments of bowlers in their leagues, the Winnipeg association had continued with a successful promotion that they started last season, with the chance of winning a $100 Pro Shop gift certificate. The rules are fairly simple: For every story/event that is submitted for publication (whether it be on our website, in our quarterly local newsletter, or nationally, in the CTF Connection), the person who submitted it gets an entry into the draw for the gift certificate. We hold the draw at our Annual General Meeting that takes place each August. The 5 W s of Who? KidSport is a national children s charity designed to help children overcome financial barriers so that ALL kids can participate in sport. KidSport Manitoba accepts financial donations as well as used sports equipment. What? KidSport assists with sport registration fees and provides equipment to qualified applicants who otherwise could not afford to play. Since 1993,KidSport Manitoba has raised over $2,100,000and assisted over 15,000 children in Manitoba. In 2009, KidSport Manitoba assisted 1,518 children with over $287,000. When? KidSport conducts various fundraising activities throughout the year in order that we have sufficient funds to help as many children as we can. Where? KidSport has chapters in 7 regions of the province. Due to lower population levels, some regions are at a disadvantage when it comes to fundraising ability, which is why we have to pull together at a provincial level to ensure we raise the funds we desperately need. Why? Being able to play a sport and have fun while developing crucial life skills is something that many children and families take for granted. KidSport kids need recreation in their lives perhaps more than most, because it gives them something to aspire to when life is limited by family finances. How To Apply KidSport raises funds through corporate donations, foundation grants, planned giving and special activities and events. Funds that are raised help offset the cost of participant registration fees for community based sport programs. Funding is administered by Sport Manitoba's Regional Offices. Application deadlines for all regions are April 30th and October 15th of each year. Winnipeg Region and Westman Region also have an additional application deadline of July 15th. Based on demonstrated need, assistance of up to $300 per individual is available to children between the ages of 5 and 18 to help offset the cost of registration fees. Provincial Sport Organizations must recognize planned activities.
