Auburn Qualifies For NCAA Championship The Tigers qualified for the NCAA Championship finishing eighth by firing its best round of the three-day NCAA East Regional with a 1-over 289 in the final round for an 879 total at the Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Orlando, Fla. Auburn, seeded 11th, had a solid team effort led by sophomore Patton Kizzire who finished tied for 18th at 3-over 219. A pair of Tigers in senior All-SEC Stuart Moore and sophomore Jay Moseley tied for 26th at 5-over 221. Freshman Glenn Northcutt tied for 44th at 7-over 223. Junior Andrew Medley finished tied for 94th at 231. Deja Vu Auburn will end its season at the same place in which it began. The Tigers opened the season in September at the PING Golfwek Preview at the Crosswater Golf Course in Sunriver, Ore., where they finished 13th at 887. Ten other NCAA Championship participants also played in the PING/Golfweek Preview including Oklahoma State, Georgia, Arizona State, Georgia Tech, BYU, Duke, UNLV, Wake Forest, Washington and Kentucky. Quoting Head Coach Mike Griffin On playing for the NCAA Championship We are very excited to be in the NCAA Championship. We said earlier in the year when we were fortunate to go to the Preview out at Sunriver, man we can t wait to get back. This is a great place and a neat venture for a tournament. It s a gem of a location. It s a great field and a great venue. It s the National Championship. We couldn t be more excited about having a chance to get back. On playing the course earlier in the season I think it helps. Having played in the Preview in the fall, if nothing else it gives our youngsters an opportunity to go back to a golf course now that they have seen. And I think it gives you a big advantage for preparation because you know what better to prepare for. When you get there, you still have to hit the shots. It s a championship golf course. No advantages. No disadvantages. You ve got to tee it up. You ve got to hit the golf shot. And it s tough. It s a real championship test of golf. If you don t hit the good golf shots, you re going to pay the price. On sophomore Patton Kizzire He is coming around. He is coming out of a midseason slump at a time when you most need for your best players to come out of a midseason slump. I m excited he is going into the right direction. He almost qualified through the first stage of the US Open earlier this week when he shot a 67 on a qualifier outside of Atlanta before losing in a playoff. He is putting numbers on the board that are much more conducive to help us get better. And they are much more akin to the kinds of scores he shot last year as a freshman. So I m hoping he has come full circle and he is ready to get after it now. On Stuart Moore and Andrew Medley having NCAA Championship experience Stuart has played in the NCAA Championship now several times. He is our most experienced player. Andrew played two years ago and Patton played in the Regional last year. So we have three people who have any form of NCAA experience. Jay (Moseley) and Glenn (Northcutt) have never been this far before. As far as the Championship itself, Andrew and Stuart played at Homestead two years ago. Stuart also played at Karsten Creek at Oklahoma State three years ago. He is without question our best player, out most experienced player and our most seasoned player. Last Time In The NCAA Championship On June 21, 2005, Auburn shot a third round 298 to finish tied for 21st with fourthranked Arizona State and 13th-ranked Oklahoma with an 879 total and miss the 15-team cut for the final round in the 107th NCAA Championship at the par-70, 6679-yard Cascades Course at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va. Senior All- SEC Jonathan Dismuke carded a 75 in his final collegiate round for a 217 total to finish tied for 40th. Sophomore Medley recorded the Tigers best round of the day with a 3-over 73 and tied for 55th at 219. Junior Will Claxton (76-222) tied for 87th, sophomore Stuart Moore (75-223) tied for 95th and junior Matthew Myers (75-226)

tied for 123rd. 1995 NCAA Individual Champion Auburn s Chip Spratlin became the first Auburn golfer to win the NCAA Individual Championship when he claimed the title at Ohio State s Scarlet Course in 1995 with a 67-71-70- -283. Auburn finished 16th as a team. 2003 NCAA Individual Runner-Up Auburn s Lee Williams finished runner-up to Arizona State s Alejandro Canizares by two strokes in 2003 at the NCAA Championship in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Williams carded a 69-72-71-77--289. Tigers In The Rankings Auburn moved into 25th in the latest Golfweek Rankings, the first time the Tigers have broken the top 25 since October 17. Stuart Moore is the highest ranked Auburn individual at 84th. So Far This Season Auburn began the season Sept. 26 at the PING/Golfweek Preview in Sunriver, Ore., the site of this year s NCAA Championships. The 20th ranked Tigers stuggled to a 13th place finish.
