Defaults vary depending n turnament design A persn undertaking the rle f team captain, Greek chair r Residential chair is assuming respnsibility fr that team and agrees that if the team frfeits a cntest, the team captain, Greek chair r Residential chair will be assessed a $20 frfeit fee and must pay the fee befre the next scheduled cntest Lss by default will nt be cunted as a frfeit, nr affect yur sprtsmanship rating while tw defaults result in a frfeit r are the same as a frfeit. Submit Default fr yur game via Fusin IM by clicking the Default Buttn with yur crrespnding game at least three (3) hurs prir t yur scheduled game time. Failure t submit yur default befre designated time will result in a frfeit and the $20 frfeit fee will be assessed t yur team captain, Greek Chair r Residential Chair. Frfeits applies t varius team sprts and 10-minute rule applies t varius sprts: If a team is nt prepared t play with the required r minimum number f players signed-in when the appinted time arrives, that team will have 10 minutes t becme ready t play. T btain a cntest victry by frfeit, the required r minimum number f participants must be present, signed-in n the scre sheet and ready t play. If a duble frfeit ccurs, bth teams will receive a frfeit; in turnament play bth teams with receive a frfeit and n team will advance t the next rund.
The Game All games will be played Pieratt Field Games will cnsist f 3 innings r 45 minutes, whichever cmes first. Extra innings will be played until there is a winner Runs will be scred like nrmal sftball rules. If the runner steps n hme plate withut being tagged ut, a run will be scred. At the end f the game, the team will the mst runs will receive three (3) pints, the team with the secnd mst runs scred will receive ne (1) pint, and the team with the least number f runs will receive 0 pints. If a tie ccurs with the tw teams with the least number f runs, each team will get 1 pint, and the team with the mst runs will receive three (3) pints. If the tie ccurs between the tw teams with the greatest number f runs, each team will get three (3) pints and the lsing team will receive zer (0) pints. The bases will be sixty (60) feet apart, with the pitching mund being frty three (43) feet frm hme plate. ROSTERS The Nickel sftball turnament is OPEN. Twelve (12) player limit fr all teams. Teams may field any cmbinatin f males and females n the field during a game. Players are nt fficially n a team until they have jined the team n Fusin IM and signed in using their ID fr least ne turnament game. Rsters will freeze at the scheduled start time f the first game f the turnament. PLAYERS Five (5) players will be in the field at ne time A minimum f fur (4) players are needed t start the game. Once started, the game may cntinue with less than fur (4) players as lng as the team has a chance t win. If a team nly has fur (4) players, they will play with ne less utfielder. If an injury ccurs, and n legal substitutin is available, teams will have t take an ut in that spt f the batting rder. A batting rder will be given t the umpire prir t the start f the game EQUIPMENT Equipment rule is cnsistent with intramural sprts including flag ftball. Intramurals will prvide each team with sftball bats and balls. Persnal bats WILL NOT be allwed! Jewelry is nt permitted and must be remved upn request f the Intramural Staff Baseball hats and sunglasses are allwed t be wrn. Athletic apparel must be wrn fr athletic events. Team shirts/jerseys must be similar in clr. IM jerseys will be available but will be limited. Athletic shes must be wrn! Metal cleats, screw-n cleats, bts and sandals are nt permitted fr IM play. Cleats must be either mlded rubber r rubber screw-ins prvided there is nt metal shwing in the tips. GAME RULES The captain will give a batting rder t the umpire prir t the start f the game. The pitcher will be frm the team in the infield The catcher will be frm the team in the utfield The hme plate umpire MUST wear a catcher s mask The catcher has the ptin t wear a catcher s mask Umpires shall award runners tw bases n verthrws that g ut-f-play. The tw bases awarded shall be frm where the runners were when the ball was released frm the thrwer s hand. Any ball hit r thrwn ver the fence surrunding the IM field cmplex shall be ut f play.
Any ball hit r thrwn ver the drainage mund by the Jhnsn Center shall be ut f play. Any hit ball buncing ver the designated fence shall be ruled a grund rule duble. When tw fields share the same utfield, it is pssible fr a fair ball ff the bat f the hitter r fllwing an errr by a fielder t g in the ther field s area f play. If the ball is tuched by smene playing n the ther field, the batter shall be awarded an autmatic duble. If, in the judgment f the umpire, the batter wuld have scred, the batter can be awarded a hme run. Other ut f play areas will be marked with white paint lines. Once the batting teams gets three (3) uts, they will be dne batting, and the next team will rtate in fllwing the rder f the chart. (See belw) BATTING Teams will bat their entire rster. Teams with players f each gender may bat in any rder they chse. N digging in the batter s bx! N bunting r slap shts = batter is ruled ut! Batters will start with a 1-1 cunt = ne (1) strike and ne (1) ball. There is a 3-ful ball maximum per individual at bat. Strike Zne Fr a pitch t be a strike, the ball must peak between 6 t 10 feet in the air and crss between the batter s shulders and knees ver hme plate. If the pitch hits hme plate it is cnsidered a ball The duble base will be used fr plays at first base. Half the base is white (ver fair territry) and half is range (ver ful territry). When using the duble base at first, the fllwing rules shuld be enfrced: A batted ball hitting the white prtin is declared fair and a batted ball hitting the clred prtin is declared ful. Whenever a play is being made n the runner the defense must use the white prtin and the runner the clred prtin. On extra base hits r balls hit t the utfield, when there is n play being made at the duble base, the runner may tuch the white r clred prtin f the base. Shuld the runner return, the runner must return t the white prtin. On any frce ut attempt frm the ful side f first base, the defense and the batter-runner can use either the white r clred prtin. This includes verthrws. When tagging up n a fly ball, any prtin f the base may be used. Infield Fly Rule A batter is ut immediately when he/she hits an infield fly, as declared by the umpire, with runners n first and secnd r n first, secnd, and third with less than tw ut. BASERUNNING Players are strngly encuraged t avid cntact f any kind ther than applied tags. Any base runner that leaves the base befre the ball is hit will be called ut and includes: N leading ff N stealing In the case f a duble play, the runner must get ut f the way t avid bstructing the thrw in any way. Excessive cntact r the purpseful slide int an ppsing player may result in an ejectin f the base runner. Any fielder wh cntacts a runner in an unnecessary manner will be ejected frm the game. The necessity f cntact will be the sle judgment f the umpire. Any base runner that flagrantly cntacts a fielder having pssessin f the ball will be declared ut and will als be ejected frm the game. Acts that are deemed flagrant include, but are nt limited t: drpping f the shulder, raising f the arms fr reasns ther than prtectin, etc. Other examples are as fllws: A base runner cannt take ut r run ver r thrugh an infielder t get t a base A base runner cannt take ut r run ver r run thrugh a catcher t scre a run Base runners may slide feet first int the base at which a play is being made Any player wh slides fr any ther reasn will autmatically be ut
Any headfirst slide will result in an autmatic ut and this includes: N headfirst slides int any base N diving back int a base headfirst When a runner disldges a base frm its prper psitin: Neither the runner nr the succeeding runner(s) in the same series f plays are cmpelled t fllw a base ut f psitin IN THE FIELD Five (5) players n the rster will field at ne time. There are n restrictins regarding gender fr pitcher and catcher. There are n restrictins regarding gender as t where the fielders play in the field. There must be a catcher and that catcher has the ptin t wear a catcher s mask N fake tags A fielder withut the ball deceives the runner by impending prgress will result in the awarding f the base. If cntinuus the umpire may eject the player N field warm up pitches between innings PITCHING The pitcher will be part f the team in the infield Players will pitch t the ppsing team. A pitcher gets a maximum f 3 warm-up pitches Pitching change the new pitcher gets maximum f 3 warm-up pitches N field warm up pitches between innings The pitcher must face the batter when pitching = the frnt f the bdy must face the batter. The pitcher has 10 secnds t release the next pitch after receiving the ball. The pitcher must swing the pitching arm past the hip with an underhand mtin. The pitch must be in a cntinuus mtin The pitch must have a visible arc AND reach a minimum height f 6 feet and a maximum height f 10 feet. The pitcher may nt: Pitch verhand r pitch as a fast pitch sftball pitcher Pitch the ball behind their back r thrugh their legs and cannt deliver a pitch frm the glve N quick pitches FIELDING FORMAT Teams will be assigned A, B, r C fr each game. The frmat fr batting, infield and utfield is shwn belw. Any player ejected frm a game fr any reasn shall be suspended frm ALL Intramural play until they cntact the Intramural Directr. It is the respnsibility f the player t setup an appintment with the Intramural Directr via email, neharris1@uky.edu. If players are fund t be participating befre being reinstated, they will
be suspended frm all Intramural activity fr the remainder f the semester. A team fr which an ineligible player participated will frfeit all games. Fighting will nt be tlerated in any frm. Teams will be respnsible fr their players and spectatrs. Teams and/r individuals may be subjected t expulsin frm any further Intramural Sprts. Any team criticizing r therwise ridiculing r attempting t demean an fficial r any Intramural staff member shall be liable t expulsin and disciplinary actin. In additin, the game may be frfeited at the discretin f the referee, supervisr, r turnament directr. PROTESTS There will be n prtest invlving fficial s judgment in games that are fficiated by the Intramural Staff. Prtests f rule interpretatin must be made befre the start f the next dead ball situatin. T prtest, the prtesting team must begin the prcess immediately fllwing the event in questin. The supervisr s decisin is final. Prtests can be made withut team time-uts. A rejected prtest in this case will result in an unsprtsmanlike cnduct penalty n the team captain. In nn-fficiated games, any and all disagreements between teams must be settled by the players. Disagreements nt reslved within reasn r in a timely manner, Intramural Staff will intervene and decide t reslve the disagreement and their decisin is final. Eligibility prtests are permitted. They must be filed in writing by nn the fllwing business day.
