The previous time the Cubs had seven games postponed due to weather was in 1986 the previous time the team had five postponed at Wrigley Field was in 2009 thanks to Ed Hartig for his research assistance. In their last 20 games since May 27, the Cubs are 14-0 when scoring at least two runs in a game the team has been held to one or no runs in six losses in that stretch. Chicago is 15-7 in its last 22 games since May 25, tied with the Dodgers (15-6) and D-backs (15-8) for most wins in the N.L. in that span including this past weekend in St. Louis, the Cubs have won six of their last seven series and are 12-5-5 in series of two or more games this season, including a 6-3-2 at home. The Cubs on Saturday night earned win No. 40 this season last year, the Cubs did not reach 40 wins until June 29 en route to 43 wins at the All-Star Break. Following this three-game set, the team heads right back out for an eight-day, eight-game road trip through Cincinnati and Los Angeles from June 21-28. ON THE RECORD: The Cubs own a.588 winning percentage, second-best in the N.L. behind only Atlanta (.592) Chicago s 28 setbacks are the fewest in the Senior Circuit. WHAT S THE DIFF?: Chicago leads the National League and is fourth in the majors with a run differential of +95, trailing only Houston (+158), Boston (+108) and the Yankees (+98) the Cubs 337 runs scored are second in the N.L. (Atlanta, 344, in three more games than the Cubs), while Chicago s 242 runs allowed are second-fewest in the majors behind Houston (230). The Cubs were 16-15 with a +21 run differential through May 6 since May 7, the Cubs have gone 24-13 with a +74 run differential, outscoring opponents 190-116 during that stretch. STAYING GROUNDED: Tyler Chatwood is second in the majors, inducing a 57.1- percent groundball rate among opponents only San Diego s Clayton Richard has a higher mark among starting pitchers (58.9 percent), while Houston s Dallas Keuchel is third (56.7 percent). MONTY IN GAME TWO: Mike Montgomery tonight makes his fifth start since jumping into the rotation in place of Yu Darvish, currently on the 10-day D.L. Montgomery is 6-3 with a 1.99 ERA (13 ER/58.2 IP) in his last 11 turns in Chicago s starting rotation since July 19 of last season he s allowed one or no runs in nine of those outings. Montgomery has allowed one or fewer runs while going at least 5.0 innings in each of his first four starts this season he s the first Cub to turn that trick since Jason Hammel in 2016 just three other pitchers since 1908 have also done so in each of their first four Cubs starts to a season: Hippo Vaughn in 1919, Greg Maddux in 2006 and Rich Harden in 2008.
