February 4, 2019 Dear Diocesan Athletic Director, Enclosed please find the Information Packets for the 2019 Boys Grade School Basketball Tournament. This year s tournament is hosted by the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown and will be played at (25 Osborne St. 15905) on March 15, 16 and 17, 2019. Included in each packet is information concerning schedules, tournament hotel reservation instructions and other tournament information. Please copy any information that you wish to distribute to your representatives and anyone who will be coming to the tournament. Enclosed you will also find the packet for your championship team. Blank rosters have been included with this packet for your basketball team and cheerleading squad as well as an official tournament t-shirt order procedure on the Bishop McCort web site, program advertisement info and hotel reservation instructions. You will also need to send a digital photo your team with the corresponding names in the picture via email. Please return all required paperwork to the Bishop McCort High School Business Office to the attention of Marianne Newcomer, Co-Chairperson by Monday March 4th. These hotels are the tournament hotels and we ask that you use only these hotels when you make reservations. Please see the hotel accommodations sheet in the packet for rates, directions, and instructions for reserving rooms. Please note that rooms must be reserved before March 4th or they will be released! February 4, 2019 Dear Diocesan Champion, Congratulations on winning your CYO Boys Grade School Basketball Diocesan Championship! You have earned the right to represent your diocese at the 2019 Boys Grade School Basketball Tournament. The Tournament will take place March 15, 16 and 17, 2019 at the Bishop McCort Catholic High School (25 Osborne Street, 15905) in. Enclosed please find your information packets. Included in each packet is information concerning schedules, tournament hotel reservation instructions and other tournament information. GENERAL INFORMATION HOTELS: Rooms have been blocked at two different hotels. These hotels are the tournament hotels and we ask that you use only these hotels when you make reservations. They are ten (10) minutes from the tournament site as well as located near the best restaurants and entertainment in the Johnstown area. Please see the hotel accommodations sheet in the packet for directions on how to reserve rooms as a group. Please note that rooms should be reserved before March 4th or they will be released! PLAYING RULES: National High School Federation and PIAA playing rules, which shall include the will be followed at all times during tournament games. All tournament games shall consist of four, six-minute quarters. Overtime periods will be three (3) minutes in length. GAMES: o Teams should be at the gym ready to play thirty (30) minutes prior to their scheduled starting times. o Starting line-ups must be available to the officials score table ten (10) minutes prior to the start of each game. o Regular time-outs will be one (1) minute long; six (6) minutes will be permitted between halves o Teams will be allowed six (6) minutes to warm-up prior to the start of each game. ELIGIBILITY: 1. All participants must be attending a parish school or be a registered member of the parish which the team represents. 2. Any other requested participation because of consolidation must be reviewed and approved by the proper diocesan authority. 3. No student who is beyond 8th grade may participate. Likewise, no student who has reached his 15th birthday by September 1st of the year prior to the tournament is eligible. 4. Transfer students who have met their respective diocesan requirements are eligible. 5. No player who is, or was, a member of a Middle School, freshman, and Junior Varsity or Varsity team after January 1st of the current year is eligible. 6. Each participating team must submit the OFFICIAL STATE CYO ROSTER to the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown, Director of Athletics no later than March 4th, 2019. Your respective Diocesan CYO Director must submit this roster. All names on this roster must coincide with the original roster filed with their respective diocese. This is an unlimited roster, but the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown will only provide tournament passes, dinners, mementos, etc... up to a maximum of 15 players, 3 coaches, 1 certified trainer, 1 scorekeeper, 15 cheerleaders and 2 cheer coaches. The participating team must assume all other expenses.

BENCH PERSONNEL: The number of people allowed on the bench during a game will be limited to players, coaches, and one trainer, who are on the official roster, additionally, parish and / or Diocesan officials of the respective schools will also be permitted. IDENTIFICATION: Tournament identification cards (lanyards) will be issued to all participants that are listed on your official roster. These cards (lanyards) must be worn at all times during the tournament. UNIFORMS: Each team must be equipped with number uniforms. Numbers must appear on both the front and back of the jersey. THE ILLEGAL NUMBER RULE WILL BE WAIVED FOR THIS TOURNAMENT. It is recommended that each team have two (2) sets of jerseys. If a participant wears a T-shirt under their jersey, the T-shirt must be of a similar color as the team jersey. Likewise, if a participant wears compression shorts under their uniform, they must be of a similar color as their uniform shorts. Home teams wear light jerseys. LOCKER ROOMS: 1. Locker room facilities will be assigned to teams on the day of each of their games. 2. When using the locker rooms, an adult to direct and supervise the players must accompany all teams. 3. We suggest that an adult member of your organization be responsible for all players valuables. Please have an adult collect and safeguard all valuables throughout the weekend. Please do not leave anything of value unattended in the locker rooms. 4. The Diocese of Altoona Johnstown and are not responsible for any lost property throughout the tournament weekend. PRACTICE FACILITIES The tournament committee has made arrangements to provide practice facilities for participating teams for Thursday, March 14, 2019. The practice sessions will be approximately 1 ½ hour in length. The Bach Wellness Center and Divine Mercy Catholic East Campus will be utilized for the practice sessions. To schedule a practice sessions, team officials must contact Tom Newcomer, Tournament Team Representative Coordinator at 814-270-1353 to schedule the practice time in advance. TOURNAMENT AWARDS 1. CHAMPION: Team award and 15 individual awards. 2. SECOND PLACE: Team award and 15 individual awards.

3. THIRD PLACE: Team award. 4. FOURTH through EIGHTH PLACE: Team participation award. TOURNAMENT ADMISSIONS 1: Adults: $3.00 per tournament session 2. Students: $2.00 per tournament session TOURNAMENT LITURGY The tournament Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 16 th at 5:30 PM. The mass will be held at Auditorium. We would like to extend an invitation for parents, family, and friends of the players to celebrate the Liturgy with us. TOURNAMENT BANQUET The tournament banquet for all players, cheerleaders, cheer advisors, school principal, visiting clergy, and coaches will be held on Saturday, March 16th immediately following the mass. The banquet will be held at the Bishop McCort High School cafeteria. TOURNAMENT T-SHIRTS: Tournament T-shirts and hoodies must be ordered prior to the tournament. Some additional t- shirts will be sold at the tournament, but the number available at the tournament will be limited. At no time during the tournament will the price of the shirts be reduced. MANDATORY COACHES MEETING: All coaches must attend a mandatory coaches meeting at 2:00pm on Friday, March 15th at Bishop McCort Bach Center. The tournament schedule will be reviewed, tournament instructions will be given and identifications cards (lanyards) for all participants will be distributed. SPORTSMANSHIP Diocese of Altoona Johnstown - Diocesan Code of Conduct As a spectator it is your responsibility to cheer positively and encourage the athletes to do their best. Actions meant to demean opposing players, coaches, spectators and officials are not in the highest ideals of interscholastic education and will not be tolerated. Any person acting in a Disrespectful manner will be asked to leave the facility. Please let all contests reflect mutual respect among all participants and spectators. *You are advised of a ruling made by the Pennsylvania State Board of CYO Athletic Directors that all participating teams must take part in all activities of the tournament. This includes meals and religious services. If you or your team fails to meet this requirement, you will forfeit any tournament awards and mementos and you will be billed for meals missed by team coaches, players and moderator.
