Netball Wellington Centre Assistant Coach Job Description Reporting to: Netball Wellington Centre Board Period of contract: 2017 Representative Season Purpose of position: To be the Assistant Coach for the age group team to which you are appointed in a manner that extends and develops the best players for this age group. To achieve at the highest level and to be part of a management team that works as best practice. This position is solely responsible for assisting in the coaching of the team. All other tasks are the responsibility of the Team Manager. Key Accountabilities Key Tasks Outcomes Assist in the running of up to three pre-season development sessions. Assist during selections for a representative team/squad for which you are sharing responsibility with the following performance goal: 1 st Team (Black) achieve top four placing in the team s designated division at the final 2 nd Team (Gold) achieve top six placing in the team s designated division at the final Be available for all representative fixtures as advised for 2017. Meet with the Lead Coach and NWC to discuss the pre-season programme that needs to be run and confirm programme and dates. Attend the dates and support these sessions with the Lead Coach and/or CCA Coaches from the Centre. Familiarise yourself with Health & Safety Procedures and the use of SAP reports in support of the Team Manager. Complete a strapping and/or become first aid certified. NWC will provide a strapping course for all team management prior as required. Attend all trials and contribute to a fair selection process in accordance with the Netball Wellington Centre policies and procedures. Any conflicts of interest must be declared prior to the start of trials. Assist by leading warm-up, skill assessment and cool-down activities during trial time. Work cohesively with the Lead Coach, Team Manager & NWC to compile trial groups, manage rotations for skill assessment, compile trial teams & monitor individual trialists game-play time, and minimal observation requirements in accordance with the Netball Wellington Centre policies and procedures. Work cohesively with the Team Manager & NWC to monitor that all Selectors are exposed to all Trialists to allow fair and equal observation. Work cohesively with the Lead Coach in appointing the team. The Assistant Coach Run a smooth campaign where all rules, regulations. procedures and policies are adhered to in an efficient manner without incident. Be fully engaged in the programme and work cohesively with the full management team. Essential Health & Safety paperwork is completed and received in a timely manner. A workable platform is built for the rep season that lies ahead. Up to 12 of the best players at the trials to be selected for the 1 st Team (Black) with the next best 12 players selected for the 2 nd Team (Gold). If need arises a wider squad selection or inclusion of Training Partners may be explored for consideration in consultation with NWC at the request of the Lead Coach.

Support in the planning and implementation of a team training programme that prepares the team to perform at peak level for the National Age Group Champs to be held in July Ensure all members of team are totally prepared mentally and physically to perform at peak level for the final tournament in July. may be consulted but cannot be part of the final decision-making process. Assist in providing unsuccessful final trialists with feedback on their skill level and what they need to upskill on. Plan, in conjunction with the Lead Coach, a training programme to achieve success. Assist in providing the selected team with a coaching programme at the appropriate quality and intensity to achieve the outcomes at least one training a week (twice weekly when no tournament on) on a Tuesday night and Sunday morning. Assist in recommending sufficient competition to develop team cohesion and ability to the highest level. Assist with ensuring all players have a minimum court time of one quarter per game prior to final Support in preparing strategies and tactics to compete against all varieties of competition. Assist in identifying coaching resources that will be beneficial to the team and individual performance. Lead by example by implementing values and responsibilities that will ensure discipline and appropriate behaviours in the team performance. Compile a management plan in liaison with the Lead Coach and Team Manager outlining steps to prepare all team members to achieve success. Maintain regular communication with the Lead Coach and Team Manager at all times and the General Manager of NWC as required. In liaison with the Lead Coach allow for at least one training workshop for team building and mental preparation. Assist in monitoring and reviewing each team member s performance on a monthly basis. Ensure due diligence extends from the time players arrive for training/tournament until players are safely returned to their parents/guardian s care at the end of the event in particular when under 18 years of age. A plan is in place that works to prepare all team members towards peak performance and sustainability at the final The full management team knows their key responsibilities and work as a strong team on and off the court. All team members conduct themselves in a polite and respectable manner. Team members held accountable for their actions throughout the representative campaign. Individuals are empowered to be responsible for their own welfare and injury prevention. The evaluations from the team reflect positive attitudes to the coaching team. 1 st Team (Black) achieve top four placing in the team s designated division at the final 2 nd Team (Gold) achieve top six placing in the team s designated division at the final Each player receives a report on their development and performance during the season. Player welfare of utmost importance and in particular when aged under 18 years old. Total transparency regarding injuries between player, parent/guardian, Team Manager, Lead Coach and NWC.

Maintain a detailed knowledge of coaching and preparation technique and work for continual improvement and selfassessment of coaching techniques. Perform all duties appropriate to your position as the Assistant Coach for NWC. Provide reports and information for Netball Wellington Centre on team management, team and individual player performances. Working relationships Attend and participate in development seminars and workshops offered by NWC, NCZ and NNZ for personal development. Maintain regular communication with other team management and NWC. Ensure that your standard of dress and resources are maintained to a high standard. Support in ensuring the safety of players at tournaments, along with the full management team, of injuries, health and general wellbeing of players at all times. Support team fundraising ventures where possible including Gold Coin Day which may be held prior to the first Liaise with Team Manager. Any additional sponsorship proposals or offers must be approved to the General Manager before proceeding. Support other assistant coaches involved with other teams in an advisory/mentoring capacity where required or requested. Complete the team management evaluation and attend a review with the General Manager NWC within one month following the end of the rep season. At the conclusion of the season assist the Lead Coach to make nominations for the annual NWC Awards Most Valuable Player, Most Improved Player with supporting evidence as to why the nomination has been made. Applies to Year 9, U15, U17 and U19 age-grades. It is expected that the Assistant Coach will build strong relationships and excellent communication with the Lead Coach and Team Manager at all times, reporting to them directly. Also maintain good communication with the NWC rep coordinator and General Manager of NWC as required along with the players and all other age-grade management teams. To remain professional, loyal and respectful to the Lead Coach, Team Manager and NWC at all times. Take steps towards progressing to next stage of accreditation process. Demonstrate applications of new techniques and coaching methods. Season review and evaluations register good levels of communication and support with other coaches. Evaluation is received on time. Evaluation is informative and adds value for the players, team management and Centre. All evaluations/reports are received on time. Reports are informative and add value for the player, team management and Centre. NWC is seen as a Centre that is creating coach, player and manager pathways in a professional and supportive manner so that outcomes are achieved for Centre and the individuals themselves.

Personal Specifications: A minimum equivalent of Netball New Zealand Community Coach Award (CCA)/or equivalent experience preferred. A commitment to up-skill through attending NNZ Coaching Modules during the 2017 season if not currently completed with an aim to achieve at least Community Coach Award I and II. Prior experience coaching the age group you are applying for or proven experience in lead coaching for a lower age group at representative level or lead/assistant coach at premier club or college level. Proven ability to communicate, work with and improve the skill level of young players. Proven ability to work with other coaches. Sound relationship and people management skills. Basic First Aid training &/or strapping course attendance (NWC will provide access to a basic strapping course) Full drivers licence and the confidence to drive the team van to tournaments if required. Not attended by 1 st Team. 2 nd Team may attend in the instance there is enough talent to select another Year 9 team. Sunday 25 th June 2017 - Molly Dorne Tournament held in Levin Sunday 9 th to Tuesday 11 th July 2017 North Island U15 Championships held in New Plymouth (travel dates: depart Saturday 8 th, return Tuesday 11 th July) Under 15 Representative Teams - some dates are still to be confirmed, possibility for dates to be U15 Trials Sunday 2 nd, Tuesday 4 th & Sunday 9 th April 2017 held at Hataitai Courts. Trainings traditionally held Sunday morning from 9.30am-11.00am and Tuesday evenings from 6.00pm- 7.30pm at the ASB Sports Centre Other possible rep team commitments: Gold Coin Days Saturday 27 th May & Saturday 24 th June 2017 collections at ASB Sports Centre venue. Further fundraising ventures to be confirmed for the 2017 season Assist Lead Coach with planning and facilitating the Centre s 2017 pre-season development sessions for potential trialists (Term 1 - dates TBC in consultation with Centre, Lead Coach & successful candidate) Casual observation of Year 9 & Under 15 players attending 2017 Pre-Season Development Programme at ASB (Term 1 six weeks). Starts Tuesday 14 th February, ends Tuesday 21 st March. Year 9 group 4.30-5.30pm, Year 10&11 group 5.30 to 6.30pm. Casual observation/identification of potential U15/U17/U19 trialists during Saturday Winter Competition prior to and during trials where able. Assistant Coach to bring players to the attention of Lead Coach prior to follow-up. Assistant Coach Agreement This agreement is for a 1 year period. On completion of the 2017 campaign and subject to the completion of all task and reporting requirements as described in the above Job Description, Netball Wellington Centre will meet with you as Assistant Coach to summarise the campaign for your appropriate age group for 2017. Both parties have the right to withdraw from this agreement at the completion of the 2017 campaign, for reasons that will be negotiated and agreed to by both parties.
