Art of Youth Alan C. Pope High School 3001 Hembree Road, Marietta, GA 30062 PopeHSAOY2014@gmail.com Saturday February 15th, 2014 The Alan C. Pope Band Parents Association welcomes you to the Art of Youth Color Guard competition. We thank you for attending our event and hope that you have a rewarding experience. Admission Prices: SAPA admission prices for a one-day ticket will be $9.00. Each unit will be allowed to bring seven staff people into the show in addition to the declared number of performing members. SAPA badges will be honored for circuit members. Wristbands are required for all spectators, performing members, all staff, as well as for all equipment crew and chaperones. If more than seven (7) wristbands are required for your staff and crew, you will need to purchase additional wristbands at a cost of $9.00 each. Seating: Spectators will sit to the left of the spectator entrance. Performers are required to sit on the opposite side of the gym. Performers are encouraged to support all units. Parking: Spectator parking will be closest to the gymnasium entrance in Parking Lot C and the back of Parking Lot B. Equipment drop-off and unit parking will be in the front portion of Parking Lot B. See map for details. Unit Check-In: Unit check-in is located in Zero hall, the first hallway immediately to the right upon entering the Main Entrance. Be prepared to declare the number of performing members. Penalties will be assessed for false declarations. Performing member and seven staff members will be admitted. Additional staff must purchase tickets; no one, including equipment crew or chaperones will be admitted to the festival without a wristband. Units must check-in one hour prior to performance time. Guard members and staff must check-in together. Equipment Unloading: Equipment will be unloaded in Parking Lot B. Equipment will enter the school through the doors to the main hallway of the school. Tarps and props will be stored in assigned areas located in the back hallway as well as the hallways running off of the back hall, in order of performance. Please be prepared to have someone with your equipment at all times. You will be allowed to unload your equipment one hour prior to your performance and must reload as soon as performance is over. 1

Unit Guides: Every unit will be assigned a volunteer Unit Guide. While we respect that you may have done this for years and do not feel you need the services of a guide, to ensure the safety of the units and their timing of movement throughout the school, every unit will be assigned a guide. Guard: Your Unit Guide will meet you in your designated storage area 20 minutes prior to the scheduled body warm-up. Your Guide will escort you through warm-up, stay with you through your performance, escort you to mat refolding and take you back to your designated storage area. Timing for each area is determined by the published SAPA schedule. Equipment Protection and Footwear: The maximum allowable tarp size for any unit is 50 x84. All equipment tips on rifles, pikes and sabers must be padded and taped; this includes PVC pipes and any sharp corners on props, instruments or carts so as not to damage the floor. Soft-soled shoes need no added protection. Hard-soled shoes must be taped. Performers MUST wear shoes at all times when NOT in the competition area. Penalties will be assessed for violation of this rule. Inspection of Equipment: Will be in warm-up area. Tabulating and Judging Area: Please do not enter either area or communicate with judges. Performance tapes will be available after your performance at a table adjacent to the tabulation/judging area. Score sheets and recaps can be picked up after the show in the tabulation area. Performance Music: Please provide your unit s performance music to the sound coordinator immediately following unit check-in. Formats accepted are CD or MP3. Sound testing and volume control will be managed by SAPA. If you have an iphone or ipod Touch, please be sure to have another way to play your music at shows (another ipod, mp3 player, or cd). Time Line: Vertical - for guard. Warm-Up Areas: GUARD WARM-UP: Body warm-up will be in Warm-Up Room #A, equipment warm-up is down the hall in Warm-Up Room #B, see attached map for exact location. SPINNING IS NOT ALLOWED ELSEWHERE IN THE BUILDING. Floor Refolding: Floor refolding will be done outside in the equipment loading area adjacent to the Main Gym or can be done in the Multi-Purpose Room (see attached map). Hospitality: For directors and staff will be located in the Orchestra Room. We will be serving hot food, snack and beverages through out the day. Judges Lounge: Will be located in the Greyhound Café, located opposite the theatre (see map for details). First Aid: Will be located immediately outside of the performance gym on the unit exit side. Please see map for details. Concessions: The concession stand will be located outside the gymnasium close to the spectator entrance. Score Sheets and Recap: Can be picked up after the show at the tabulation table. Critique: The chorus room will serve as the critique room (see map for details) 2

VIDEOTAPING Due to copyright restrictions, NO ONE, NOT EVEN THE CONTEST SPONSOR, IS TO VIDEOTAPE ANY PART OF A CONTEST. The only exception is a unit videotaping THEIR OWN program. A video recording area will be designated at the top of the stands, away from the GE and EA judges. The area will accommodate one individual per performance. Due to copyright restrictions, there is to be no selling of contest videos. SAPA may video any part of the event for the purpose of educational source material. This will be prearranged with the SAPA Contest Administrator. The SAPA Contest Administrator may need to have a unit videotaped for the purpose of classification review. Vendor Sales Area Cost: Traditional Vendors will be charged $150.00 for a 6 x6 area. Hospitality Vendors (those not exchanging services or product for compensation) will be charged $50.00. Contact the Event Coordinator at PopeHSAOY2014@gmail.com for additional information. Event Coordinator: Please direct any questions you may have to our email at PopeHSAOY2014@gmail.com Once again, welcome to Pope High School. We hope our contest meets your expectations in every way.
