2009 SEASON IN REVIEW LaGrange College finished a very successful 2009 season with a 25-21 record. The Panthers became the first LaGrange team to win three straight Great South Athletic Conference tournament titles. The Panthers came out of the loser s bracket to defeat top-seeded Maryville for the title. The Panthers became only the second LaGrange team to receive three straight NCAA national tournament bids. HEAD COACH JENNIFER CLAYBROOK Student Assistant Coach: Kim Woodard Jennifer Claybrook completed her seventh season as the Panthers' head coach. In 2009, Claybrook guided the Panthers to their third straight GSAC Championship Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Division III national tournament. The Panthers finished the season 25-21, their sixth winning in the seven years Claybrook has been head coach. Claybrook served as an assistant for two years before being named head coach in 2003. In six years, the Panthers are 180-130 under Claybrook, who has the most career wins by a Panther head coach during the fastpitch era. The Panthers have produced six United States Collegiate Athletic Association All-Americans, four NCAA South All-Region selections and 25 GSAC All-Conference selections since Claybrook became coach. The Panthers also have had seven GSAC Player of the Year awards and two GSAC Pitcher of the Year awards. In 2006, the Panthers were 32-11 under Claybrook. It was the most wins by the Panthers since becoming an NCAA Division III member. The Panthers ranked nationally in all 11 statistical categories kept by the NCAA, the first LaGrange College athletic team to do so. Claybrook was named the GSAC Coach of the Year for the second time. ASSISTANT COACH Roy DeMooney DeMooney finished his third year as assistant coach for LaGrange in 2009. The father of coach Jennifer Claybrook, he assists in developing the outfielders and as the hitting instructor. He has been a member of the National Youth Sports Coaches Association for 27 years. DeMooney has two world championships and ten top-three finishes in both slow and fast-pitch softball. He has had seven former players to play at LaGrange; including two of his daughters, Jennifer and Jessica. He and his wife, Irene, have five children; Courtney, Jennifer, Clinton, Clayton and Jessica. He has been a small business owner in Atlanta for 32 years. ASSISTANT COACH Kim Woodard Woodard is in her second season as the graduate assistant coach for the Panthers. A 2007 graduate of LaGrange, Woodard was the Great South Athletic Conference Player of the Year in 2007. She was a four-time All-GSAC selection. Woodard was named to three straight All-Atlantic Region teams. She also earned USCAA All-American honors her freshman and sophomore seasons. Woodard finished her career with a.393 batting average. She ranks in the top-10 in nine different school career record lists. In her first season, Claybrook guided the Panthers to a 25-17 overall record and the GSAC regular season championship. The Panthers were runner-ups in the conference tournament and the USCAA National Championship Tournament. Claybrook has been in the athletic department for 14 years, first as a student-athlete, as an assistant coach and now as head coach. She has also served as assistant volleyball coach for four years and as an assistant coach for basketball. A Tyrone, Ga. native, Claybrook was a fourtime Georgia-Alabama-Carolina all-conference selection in softball and named to the NFCA First Team South All-Region team in 2000. She was a member of the first basketball team when the program was restarted in 1999. Claybrook was a NFCA Scholar Athlete and a three-time NAIA Academic All-American. She received the school's Eagle Award, while compiling a 3.84 grade point average. Claybrook graduated magna cum laude with a degree in Middle Grades Education and also has earned a master s degree in Middle Grades Education from LaGrange. In addition to her coaching duties, Claybrook serves as an advisor for the LaGrange College chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is the Senior Woman Administrator and the LC and GSAC advisor for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She is married to Jim Claybrook and they have a son, J.J. ATHLETIC TRAINING Asst. Athletic Trainer Christy Brown, Brown completed her first full year in the athletic training department at LaGrange College in 2 0 0 9. Christy graduated from Valdosta S t a t e University with a bachelor's of science degree in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training in May of 2003. During the spring of 2003, she also completed an internship at LaGrange College. Christy received her Master's Degree in Public/Health Administration from Columbus State University in January of 2005. Christy is certified by the National Athletic Trainers' Association and is currently licensed by the state of Georgia. She currently lives in Woodbury.
