FIRST and SECOND GRADE STUDENTS TRAVELLED TO THE UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA by Cindy Strickland Over 75 Corbett Prep teachers and first and second grade students traveled to the University of Tampa on Friday, October 27 for a two-hour hands-on science field trip. The University of Tampa formed a relationship five years ago with Corbett Prep to provide field trips, which are hosted by the College of Education students preparing for their internships next semester. The Corbett Prep students participated in activities directly related to the topics they are currently studying in science, while the UT students gained valuable experience in planning and implementing science for our wonderful students from Corbett Prep. The UT students provided interactive group activities that ranged from building habitats, to experimenting with the states of matter, to learning about the phases of the moon! Cindy Strickland, Corbett Prep Middle School Co-Division Leader, is also a University of Tampa college of education instructor and is always eager to set up this special learning opportunity. Mrs. Strickland proudly reported that the UT students and Professors were impressed with Corbett Prep students knowledge in the field of science as well as their exemplary behavior and eagerness to learn! MIDDLE SCHOOL FORENSICS TEAM STARTS THEIR YEAR ON A HIGH NOTE! By Forensics Coach Victoria Watson The FORENSICS TEAM (an extension of the Middle School Drama elective) had its first meet of the year last week at Berkeley Preparatory School, and the team did a great job! At this competition, drama/forensics students competed against eight other schools. We have started the year with a wonderful team and they showed excellent character and poise at their first meet. As their coach, I am overjoyed and so proud of their accomplishments! Eighth Grader, Madigan Reens took first place for Interpretation of Drama with Eighth Grader, Gabriela Caldeira taking second with a perfect score from two of the three judges! Eighth Grader, Keira Osborne took first place in Poetry with Seventh Grader, Maya Mehta taking second. Both girls had very difficult pieces and got great reviews form the judges! Seventh Grader, Madison Levine took first place in Improvisation which is a very challenging category since the participant only learns what they will be working when they first enter the room! Madison s practice and creativity paid off! New to Forensics this year, Seventh Grader, Mia Claire Duff did an outstanding job and received high praise from the judges! She is looking forward to the next meet! It was definitely an awesome start to what will continue to be an awesome year! FCIS CONFERENCE: A HUGE SUCCESS! Last Friday, our entire Corbett Prep Faculty travelled to Champion s Gate, outside of Orlando, to support the Florida Council of Independent Schools State Conference. (FCIS) While we were honoring our accreditation organization, it turned out to be a phenomenal day for all of us. The featured guest speakers were inspiring, and the workshops were relevant to all of us. Literally, our teachers were truly glad to have the opportunity to learn from other colleagues and the speakers that FCIS secured. Thank you, Corbett Prep families for your support of our continuous learning model where our teachers relish the opportunity to learn even with all we do!!! It is truly a credit to their professionalism and our Olympic tag model, where the best are always getting better! Our students benefit each and every time! 2

The aquaponics system will be used by Corbett Prep Middle School students during Science classes, Middle School club, and for after-school activities. Both projects required over 200 man-hours to complete. Thank you, Geordie and Michael (former IDS student), for choosing Corbett Prep for your project and the place where you chose to make a significant difference!!!
