REBELS AUTO CLUB NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2017 Greetings Rebels, President s Message First I would like to thank Jim Turner for his service to our club. Jim recently resigned due to health issues with his back. We wish Jim God s speed in finding relief. We have just finished the cone races and the Rebels were on top of it again. Thank you Gary Weyers for your diligence and hard work in keeping everyone on task. Also, thanks to all of the Rebels that volunteered and gave their time. We have several things coming up in September and October so stay tuned as it should be a fun time. Thank you all for all you do! Vice President, Bob Moberly JUST CRUISE. August 30, 2017 at Valentino s The meeting was called to order at 7:30pm by Vice President Bob Moberly. Bob welcomed everyone to the meeting. He announced that Jim Turner had resigned as Rebel s president. The Rebels are looking for a replacement to finish out Jim s term. If anyone is interested in filling that position please contact a board member. A new president will be chosen at the September board meeting following the bylaws. Vice President s report. Bob gave the Vice President s report. He said the September board meeting will be September 12 th at Panera on North 66 th. 6 pm to eat, 7 pm for the meeting. The September general meeting will be September 27 th at The Pizza Ranch. 6pm to eat, meeting at 7:30pm. Scholarship information has been sent to the appropriate people and submissions are due on September 15 th. A committee will chose the scholarship recipients and checks will be presented to them at the October meeting. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the Vice President s report. The Secretary s report was given by Margaret Otley. She said that ladies night will be Wednesday September 20 th at 6pm at the Bethany Café. Newsletter deadline is September 4 th. She asked if everyone had received the email with the minutes since they were not in the newsletter, she has copies if anyone would like to have one. She announced that it was Jim McNeil s birthday. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the Secretary s report and the minutes. The Treasurer s report was given by Jana Wood. Jana said income for the month was from car show sponsorship, club membership and Rebel s promo items. Expenses for the month were for a donation to the Husker Racing team and newsletter expenses. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the Treasurer s report. Coordinator s report. Gary Weyers gave his report. He said he needs one volunteer for the SCCA cone races on Sunday from 4-7 pm. Jim Holstein said he would fill that spot. Gary said he will be calling volunteers the day before their shift. Bob Moberly thanked Gary for his efforts in making this s successful event. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the Coordinator s report. Car show report by Craig Foster. Craig said it had been decided by the board that for the 2018 car show the Rebel s would not be doing the food. Sandy Francisco, Boyd Ready and Bill Masters will be meeting with Lolo s and Parkway Lanes and will then present options to the board. This needs to be decided before the ad for the car council book is printed. There will be no free meal ticket for participants and possibly no youth class. The board is looking at other options. Restore a Muscle Car is the sponsor for 2018. Jim McNeil is working with Dave Hall. Bob Moberly thanked Craig for all his work on the car show. Old business: Sandy Francisco said a new date has been set for the appreciation party. It will be October 15 th at the VFW Club on West A. New Business: Don Shea and Doug Weber are planning a poker run. It will be September 24 th and more information will be in the newsletter. Linda Masters passed around a signup sheet for a bone density test which is donated by the Arthritis Center. Jim Jensen said he would like for the Rebel s to make a donation for flood relief in Texas. Jim Jensen will work with a committee to research an appropriate place to donate. Bob Moberly thanked Jim Turner for his service. The meeting was adjourned at 8:10pm Respectfully submitted, Margaret Otley, Secretary September 24 th Blackjack Run Starting point: Culvers 70 th and Pioneers Time: 1:30pm Entry fee: $3.00 per card sheet or 3 card sheets for $8.00 It is past time for a blackjack run. We have worked hard and deserve a calm afternoon just enjoying our cars and time together. No work! Don Shea and Doug Weber have put together an enjoyable route for us through small towns exploring the charm of their local bars. It will be nice to see some fall scenery in our great state. Cash prizes for best and worst hands. There will also be door prizes for an added chance to be a winner. Ending at Tanner, 30th and Yankee Hill, for conversation and dinner about 5:30-6:00 pm. Please join your fellow Rebels on Sunday September 24 th. In case of rain we will still meet for dinner and play cards at Tanners at 6:00pm. It has been a busy week with the SCCA cone races going on. We had quite a few of the Air Force and ROTC cadets helping us out on the track. The young help (legs) was greatly appreciated. On Sunday Sept. 10th is the 36th Annual Havelock All-Makes Car & Truck Show with registration from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Also on Sunday Sept 10th is the 24th Annual All-Corvette Show at West Gate Bank Center located at 6003 Old Cheney Road with registration 8:00 am to 11:00 am. On Sunday Sept 17th is the Apple Jack Car Show in downtown Nebraska City with registration from 8:00 am to noon. Also on Sunday Sept 17th is the Last Fling Till Spring Car Show from noon to 5:00 pm. Preregistration is required. On Sunday Sept 24th is the Summer s End Car Show and Family Fun Day at Calvary Community Church located at 4400 North First Street with registration from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. Also On Sunday 24th is the 8th Annual St. Michael Festival Car Show located at 9101 South 78th Street with registration from 10:30 am to noon. Another event on Sunday Sept 24th is the 50th Annual Swap Meet in Fremont, NE from 6:00 am to 3:00pm. On Friday September 29th there is a show and shine at Kriha Fluid Power located at 2133 Cornhusker Hwy from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. On Sunday October 1st at Wabonsie State Park in Iowa (10 miles east of Nebraska City on Hwy 2)is the ENWICC s Bill Yates Memorial Fall Foliage Tour and Car Council Potluck Dinner. Serving begins at noon. Planes, Trains, & Autos Aly, the Event Coordinator at the SAC Museum in Ashland, NE, has reached out to the REBELS Auto Club, to see if we would be interested in displaying our cars in their Planes, Trains, and Autos event on October 7-8. This is a 2 day event for the SAC Museum. They have individuals and clubs who are going to be registering to display cars for the weekend. Teardrop trailer for sale Asking $3,000.00. The event lasts both days, but you do not have to stay with your car if you don't want to. Cars will be displayed insidethe Museum near the aircraft. Sorry for the mix up. Bobbi also notes that her granddaughter attended the SCCA races and while she worked the entrance gate Jim McNeil took Taylor racing. (helmet, too!) He watched out for her and told her all about how cone races works. Bobbi noted, we have such nice ice folks in the club, I never have to worry who Taylor is with. Your Club is providing the burgers, buns, condiments and eating supplies for the dinner. A bartender will be there for any beverages you may want to enjoy. There is a pop machine and water available. No carry in beverages please. Everyone is asked to bring a dish to share for added dining enjoyment. We are looking for a couple of volunteers to provide games or tricks for the afternoon. Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Call Sandy 402-489-0265. The VFW is asking for a donation instead of charging us the usual fee,..thanks to Jim Turner. The board will provide this donation. A clean up crew will be needed at the end of the event as part of our obligation. Plan to join us for fun and fellowship.
