Chattanooga falls to 4-9 overall and the Wolfpack remains undefeated, improving to 12-0 on the year. NC State head coach Wes Moore called the game from the visitor s bench for just the second time in his career but came out with the win over his former team and former player, Chattanooga head coach Katie Burrows. I m grateful to have the opportunity to play against him and I know that will really help us, Practice TBA 10:00 a.m. Practice TBA 10:00 a.m. Last Time Out: Mocs Fall to #10 NC State in Reunion Game UP NEXT: East Tennessee State Jan. 12 - SoCon Opener McKenzie Arena Practice TBA Chattanooga head coach Katie Burrow said about going up against her mentor. The Mocs post players carried the load with the three combining for 31 of the Mocs points. Arianne Whitaker led UTC with season-high 13 points. She was 5-of-7 from the field and dropped in all three free throw attempts. Rochelle Lee was 4-of-8, hitting a 3-pointer and making both free throw attempts, posted a career-high 11 points. Abbey Cornelius chipped in a season-best seven points, making 3-of-4 from the field with a trey. I was not displeased with our effort, Burrows said. I felt like my girls came out with the right mindset, but again, putting the ball in the hole is our issue. We re not scoring right out of the gate and against a team like that, you can t do that. They were hot and we weren t. The Wolfpack got off to a 9-0 start before Brooke Burns buried a 3-pointer, but NC State would add seven more to the tally before Chattanooga hit again, this time a layup by Whitaker. The Wolfpack pushed the lead to double digits and held a 23-12 advantage after one quarter. The game would even out throughout the second and third quarters with the NC State only outscoring the Mocs by four points over the next 21:02, but still led 62-47 with 8:40 to play. The Wolfpack stepped up the game, however, and pushed its lead to as much as 25 points on a jumper from Grace Hunter with 2:42 to play. Whitaker closed out the game with the final five points for the Mocs in the last minute. We did take care of the ball tonight and I was pleased to see that we cleaned that up. I felt like the energy level kicked up a notch and we did a good job pressuring them, Burrows said. Battling and going for loose ball. Overall, pleased with the effort, but obviously hat losing. UTC had a season-low 11 turnovers and scored nine points on 11 Wolfpack miscues. Lakelyn Bouldin had five of the Mocs 12 assists on the night and Molly Melton grabbed three steals. NC State outscored Chattanooga 44-22 in the paint and 15-9 off turnovers. Both benches contributed with the Mocs getting 30 points and NCSU tallying 34 from the reserves. Elissa Cunane had a game-high 19 points making 7-of-9 from the field and 5-of-6 from the charity stripe and added five rebounds. Hunter had 17 points and was 7-of-7 from the line. Kiara Leslie was the third NC State player in double figures with 12 points. Chattanooga was 7-of-20 from beyond the arc with six different players ripping the net from distance. The Mocs 9-of-9 performance from the free throw line was its best of the season. UTC shot 38.2 percent for the game with a 58.3 percent effort in the second quarter. Effort doesn t win ball games, Burrows said. You have to knock down shots and execute. I m thankful I didn t have to coach that [effort] tonight because over the last couple of games I felt like I had to coach that. I was pleased on that side of things. Chattanooga reached the 500-game mark against Butler on November 15, 2015. 45 SEASONS UTC begins its 45th season of play as a Division I team and has had just six coaches in it s history. The Mocs are 858-453 over that time, averaging just under 20 wins per season. INDIVIDUAL NOTES WILLIAMS FIRST DOUBLE-DOUBLE Freshman Eboni Williams recorded her first career double-double with a career-high 16 points and 10 rebounds against Belmont. BOULDIN LEADS MOCS Lakelyn Bouldin is the Mocs leading returning scorer and is continuing that trend with a teambest 12.6 points per game. She has topped the 20-point mark three times including a seasonbest 23 at Virginia Tech where she made a career-high 10 field goals. BOULDIN S FREE THROW SHOOTING ON POINT Lakelyn made 9-of-9 free throws at Northern Colorado. That is tied for seventh at UTC in a single game for free throws made without a miss. She is Chattanooga s all-time percentage leader making 86.1 percent of her attempts. BOULDIN S NOTEWORTHY ACHIEVEMENT Lakelyn Bouldin was 5-of-6 from the 3-point line in a 23-point effort against Saint Louis. She made her first five 3-point attempts, one behind the school record set by Jenaya Wade-Fray against UNCG in 2007 for most 3-pointers made without a miss. WHITAKER ENTERS CAREER BLOCKS LIST Redshirt junior Arianne Whitaker has 109 career blocked shots. At UTC, her 61 blocks has entered her into the Mocs all-time list. She ranks ninth, passing Kim Horsey (53/1982-85). WILLIAMS ADDING TO THE BOTTOM LINE Freshman Eboni Williams is averaging 6.9 points per game and has led the Mocs in scoring twice and leads the team in rebounding with 4.5 per game. The Mocs are currently in New York for the Fordham Holiday Classic to take on MTSU and Fordham or Maine. UTC HOSTED FINAL FOUR FOE Louisville, a Final Four participant, earned a No. 5 preseason ranking in the AP Top 25 and was No. 4 in the USA Today Coaches Top 25. The Mocs fell 75-49 to the Cardinals. FAMILIAR FACE ON VISITOR S BENCH A familiar face will be in an unfamiliar place. Mocs Former head coach Wes Moore will pay a visit to the Roundhouse but will be sitting on the visiting side with his NC State Wolfpack. This will be his first trek back to Chattanooga since his departure following the 2013-14. The Wolfpack is ranked 17th in the Associated Press preseason poll and 16th in the USA Today Coaches preseason poll. SEASON OPENER AGAINST LEE UTC opened the season against Lee in the first regular season matchup between the two schools. The Mocs came away with a 61-55 win over the Cleveland, Tenn., school. TOURNAMENT TIME Chattanooga went 1-1 at the Cavalier Classic Thanksgiving weekend. UTC defeated Saint Louis and fell to Central Michigan. It was the first meeting with both teams. Before the New Year, the Mocs will travel to the Bronx, N.Y., for the Fordham Holiday Classic. UTC will face MTSU for the 45th time and first since 2008. Following that first round matchup,

2017-18 Chattanooga Women s Basketball 5 the Mocs will take on either Maine or host Fordham. Chattanooga fell to Maine in the 2016 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Memorial. UTC and Fordham have never met. MID-MAJOR RANKED OPPONENTS Five of the Mocs opponents are ranked in the College Insider Mid-Major Top 25 preseason poll. South Dakota State, Central Michigan, Belmont, Mercer and possible opponent Maine. Northern Colorado received votes in at least one poll. SOUTHERN CONFERENCE NOTES PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE Lakelyn Bouldin was the Mocs lone selection to the SoCon Coaches preseason all-conference team. Bouldin was named to the league s allconference third team last season and is UTC s leading returning scorer. She averaged 12.3 points per game and a team-high 62 3-pointers. MOCS PICKED FIFTH IN PRESEASON POLL The Southern Conference coaches picked the Mocs to finish fifth in the preseason poll. She spent the previous eight seasons as an assistant at UTC. In her time as an assistant coach at Chattanooga, Burrows served on staffs for both Wes Moore and Jim Foster. During that span, UTC advanced to the postseason seven times, with five trips to the NCAA Tournament following five Southern Conference titles. The Mocs posted an impressive overall record of 189-68 (.735) and a 112-22 (.836) mark in league play during her time as an assistant. During Burrows tenure, the Mocs have had one SoCon Athlete of the Year, one SoCon Player of the Year, four Defensive Players of the Year, 20 all-conference picks and five SoCon Tournament MVPs. The Mocs earned a top-25 ranking in both the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches polls in the 2014-15 season, following wins over No. 4 Tennessee and No. 7 Stanford. UTC climbed as high as 17 in the AP Top 25 and 18 in the Coaches Poll. Over the last eight years, the Mocs have defeated Tennessee, Alabama and Auburn twice each, Stanford, Villanova, Rutgers, Indiana, Northwestern, Georgetown and Florida. Taylor Hall (2010-14) became the first player in SoCon history to earn league Player of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Tournament Most Outstanding Player in the same season. Jasmine Joyner (2013-17) earned back-to-back SoCon Defensive Player of the Year honors and was named the SoCon Tournament MVP in 2015 and 2017. She finished her career at Chattanooga as the second player to top 1,000 points and 900 rebounds, and is eighth all-time in the NCAA with 436 career blocks. Alicia Red Payne became the first Chattanooga player to earn back-to-back SoCon Defensive Player of the Year honors (2015, 2016) and was named the SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Player in 2016. A native of Lookout Valley, Katie came to Chattanooga in 2000 and was an integral member of four straight SoCon titles. In her time as a student-athlete at UTC, the Mocs posted an overall record of 102-23 with wins over such teams as Florida State, Alabama and Louisville. UTC advanced to the NCAA championships all four seasons. In her senior year, the Mocs posted the nation's longest active winning streak at 27 games that culminated with a first-round win over Rutgers in the NCAA Tournament. In that game, Burrows sank the most memorable shot in Chattanooga history, nailing a 30-foot bank shot from the right side to spark a comeback win over the Scarlet Knights. Katie earned a spot as among former head coach Wes Moore's Top 10 players in the celebration of "Moore in McKenzie, a Decade of Dominance". She ranks in the top 10 in UTC history in 3-pointers made (107) and attempted (315). Prior to her return to UTC, Burrows was a coach and teacher at Ringgold High School for three years. She took over a program that had just three wins in the season prior to her arrival. The Lady Tigers steadily increased their win total in each of her three seasons, culminating in Ringgold's first state playoff appearance since 1986 when the team lost to Rossville in the Class AAA finals. Prior to that she was the head coach of the girl's basketball team at Tullahoma High School in Tullahoma, Tenn., from 2005-07 and taught health and physical education. Immediately following her graduation from UTC she was the assistant girls basketball coach at GPS from 2004-05 under former UTC player Susan Lance Crownover. Katie attended Lookout Valley High School where she was named the Chattanooga Times Free Press Best of Preps Female Athlete of the Year. She was a four-time first team Chattanooga Times Free Press All-City, three-time Region Player of the Year and first team all-state. She was named a Tennessee Class A Miss Basketball finalist in back-to-back seasons. Katie learned her trade at an early age from her father Joe Galloway who was her high school coach. Joe serves on the Hamilton County School Board and, along with his daughter Kristen Clounch, is still coaching at Lookout Valley. Her brother Keith Galloway is married to former UTC standout Jennifer Wilson and the pair coach the boy's and girl's basketball teams at Hardin Valley Academy in Knoxville. A 2004 graduate of Chattanooga, Katie earned a B.S. in Exercise Science and Health K-12. She is married to Nick Burrows. They are the parents of daughters, Jordan and Grace.
