Bucknell is ranked 15th in the latest edition of the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25. The Bison are 68th out of 349 teams in the Division I national RPI. Cleveland State is 152nd in the latest RPI. DOMINATING THE BOARDS Bucknell has won the rebounding battle in 65 of its past 72 games, including eight of nine games this season. The Bison rank first in the Patriot League and 19th in the nation in rebounding margin (+11.3). They rank 16th in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (30.8). KATE WALKER CATCHES FIRE Kate Walker has been the team s top outside shooter over the past four games, going 10-14 from beyond the arc. She was 5-7 in a 78-66 win over Drexel, 3-4 in a 61-47 win at Akron, 1-2 in a 57-53 loss at Rutgers, and 1-1 in a 57-35 win at St. Bonaventure. For the season, she is shooting 48 percent (12-25) from long range. SUNE SWART EMERGES AS A STAR PLAYER Senior Sune Swart s career-high in scoring was 18 entering the season. She eclipsed that with 19 points in the first half alone on her way to 25 in a season-opening win at Binghamton. She then scored 25 points while adding 10 rebounds the following game, a win at Saint Joseph s. She earned the season s first Patriot League Player of the Week award. Swart is the first Bison player to score at least 25 points in back-to-back games since 2010. She is the first to do it in the first two games of the season since Molly Creamer scored 26 against Albany and 27 against Pittsburgh in 2001. She ranks second on the team in rebounds (7.9) and third in scoring (12.7). Thirty-three of her 71 rebounds are offensive. DEBOER S MILESTONES Claire DeBoer is just the seventh player in program history with at least 1,200 points and 700 rebounds in her career. She is the first player to accomplish the feat since Hope Foster (2004-08). DeBoer ranks 11th in Bucknell history with 1,273 career points. She is ninth in school history with 721 rebounds. NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP FOR SLAGUS Kaitlyn Slagus, the 2016 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, is off to an outstanding start to her sophomore season. She has averaged nearly a double-double with 13.7 points and 9.9 rebounds through the first nine games. Slagus has double-doubles in wins over Binghamton (17 points, 16 rebounds), NJIT (22 points, 10 rebounds), and Akron (13 points, 11 rebounds) and in a loss to Elon (20 points, 11 rebounds). She is shooting 51 percent (43-85) from the field, 43 percent (17-40) from beyond the arc, and 95 percent (20-21) at the line. TOUGH NON-CONFERENCE SCHEDULE Bucknell has faced the most difficult non-conference schedule in head coach Aaron Roussell s five seasons with the team. The slate was highlighted by away games against BCS opponents in North Carolina and Rutgers. The Bison played five straight games against teams that competed in national postseason tournaments last season. The stretch included games at Elon (WNIT), vs. Drexel (WNIT), at Akron (WNIT), at Rutgers (WNIT), and at St. Bonaventure (NCAA). The Bonnies earned a No. 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament and beat seventh-seeded Oklahoma State in the First Round. COMING OFF A RECORD-BREAKING SEASON The 2015-16 season will go down as one of the best in the history of Bucknell women s basketball. The Bison set program records for wins in a season with a record of 25-8 and for league wins in a season with a record of 17-1. The Bison shared the regular season conference title with Army West Point. While the team came up short in its quest to win the Patriot League title, Bucknell went on to achieve something no other team in league history had accomplished with a win in the WNIT. The Bison recorded the league s first every victory in the tournament with a 74-70 win at Akron. The Bison set a program record for consecutive wins with 10 straight victories during league play. They also had a nine-game winning streak during the season. Bucknell received multiple honors after the regular season. Kaitlyn Slagus was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year and Aaron Roussell was tabbed as the Coach of the Year. The Bison had two First Team All-Patriot League selection, including current senior Claire DeBoer, and Kyi English joined Slagus on the All-Rookie Team. English went on to add a Patriot League All-Tournament Team honor.
