Flamstead Tetrathlon Report 2018 The season began with the National Winter Triathlon Championships in March. Fergus, Toby and Raissa had qualified but the boys were unavailable, so it was just Raissa who represented Flamstead in the Mini Girls competition. She put in an incredible performance and WON! The awful weather caused the next couple of competitions to be cancelled. We carried on training every month though and finally summer arrived and in July we had the Area Tetrathlon: In the Tadpole Girls Triathlon Cassie ran, swam and shot incredibly well and in a strong competition came 2 nd. In the Mini Mixed Triathlon Toby, despite being quite a way behind after the Shoot, managed a medal winning run and swim to end 3 rd, and Holly put in a good all-round effort for 5 th place. In the Beanie Biathlon, the race went not to the fastest runner, but to those that threw the best beanbags! Penny was disappointed with her 9 th place, but happy to be awarded a Special Rosette for great team support! The following day, the rest of us trekked to Ettington for the ride phase. After the Triathlon Ruby and Jemima were in 1 st and 2 nd place for the Tadpoles, Josie in 3 rd & Georgie in 5 th in the Mini Girls and Fergus in a strong 1 st spot. Ruby rode the only clear amongst us on the day to hold her 1 st place and pick up the Tadpole trophy, while Jemima, despite a naughty Dandy bucking her off on the re-mount from the stile, finished strong and held her 2 nd place. In the Minis Fergus had trouble at the gate but flew round the rest of the course to retain his Mini Boys Trophy. Josie s pony unfortunately took a great dislike to 2 of the fences and sent her flying, which meant she was knocked back into 5 th place. Georgie rode brilliantly and with only 1 stop charged up the rankings to finish in a strong 3 rd place. Which meant that in the team competition, Fergus, Georgie and Josie picked up the trophy!
Training didn t stop at Camp, with running round the XC course and Shooting in the Avenue! Not sure the swimming could legitimately count as training? Ruby was awarded the Tetrathlon trophy for her commitment and consistent improvement. Next up was the Whaddon/HH Tet in September, where many of our new recruits had their first try at Tet. We had overall winners in many categories, as well as hoardes of individual discipline medals and best of all - PB's!! The atmosphere was great, and the camaraderie between the kids and parents was exemplary. Everyone did their bit to help and it was greatly appreciated. And, not long after that was the Arena Tetrathlon at Quainton. It was a popular event with some of the Area's top competitors out and conditions were challenging to say the least. I was delighted to have so many new faces on the team and we had a great squad of 11 including teams in the Beanies, Minis and Juniors. Here are the results please note the amazing number of PB s this is ultimately what we are looking for! Finally, last weekend the annual Tet cycle came full circle with the Qualifiers for the 2019 National Winter Triathlon. We had a great squad of 13 with 4 teams across the classes and 3 qualifiers for the National Championships! In the Beanie Biathlon, Penny had a great run, winning the medal for that and coming 2 nd over all. In the Tadpole section, Jemima had an incredible shoot, winning her the medal, and after coming 2 nd and 3 rd in the swim, also finished 2 nd overall. In the Mini Boys, Toby had strong competition only the top 2 qualify for National Champs and this was an unusually competitive group, but Toby, having PB s (and medalling) in his run and swim, and a huge PB 800 shoot managed to win the section and qualify! In the Mini Girls (always a ferocious battle) Raissa - the favourite, didn t disappoint and held off a very strong group to win and qualify. Josie gave the top 2 a real run for their money with PB run, swim and 920 shoot, finishing 3 rd. Cassie, who is new to the class gave a very solid performance to take 4 th, Holly 6 th, Ruby 8 th and Chloe 10 th. In the Junior Boys, Fergus, how has also moved up classes proved he is up for the challenge and won all 3 medals against some strong competition, ended in 1st place, and qualified. In the Junior Girls, Hattie with a great PB in her shoot came 7 th. And Georgie, who has also moved up classes struggled with an injury in the run but finished strong and came 9 th. In the Senior Girls, both Freya and Erin bravely took on the enormous challenge of 10m turning targets 1 handed shooting, 1500m XC run and 3 min swim. They gave solid performances and finished 3 rd and 4 th. As for the teams; for the first time we were asked to enter mixed age/mixed gender teams. They were picked on the basis of previous triathlon scores, and the competition was incredibly strong, with the Area s top athletes out in force. So, we were totally thrilled to take 1 st place (Raissa, Fergus and Josie), and also 3 rd place (Toby, Holly, Cassie and Ruby). Interested in joining our squad?
