JULY 2015 Course building in the clouds. Photo courtesy of Betsy Nye. Plenty of room to play! Photo courtesy of Betsy Nye. Smiles all around! Photo courtesy of Betsy Nye. This year, Becky Dean judged all levels of titling and tournament classes, including a Dog Agility Masters Team/Performance Versatility Pairs tournament on Saturday and Sunday. She enjoyed the breathtaking vistas, comparing them to judging in Hawaii. Thank you NOMAD for 3 wonderful days of agility, friends and great courses by Becky Dean. This year's field was amazing, flat and dry with plenty of shade and just the perfect amount of wind. Could not have asked for a better site. Hope you hold next year's trial at the same location. Volunteering at Nationals by Lisa Barrett October 21-25, 2015, the USDAA National Championships, formally called World Cynosport Games, will be held in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Mapquest says that s about 17-18 hours of driving from Burlington. In addition to agility, Cynosport will likely include Rally, Dock Diving, and possibly Flyball. I m excited that this huge event will be within driving distance for NOMADers, and I encourage everyone to think about going to Murfreesboro., either as a volunteer or a competitor. Cynosport takes place over 5 days, Wednesday morning through Sunday afternoon. In recent years there have been six rings and almost 1,000 dogs. Since most of us are not likely to make the finals or be serious contenders for national fame, we can soak up the atmosphere and watch hundreds of highly skilled runs, all without feeling nervous since we have nothing to prove. In fact, you can be LESS nervous running at Cynosport than at local trials, since you can t even earn Qs at Cyno. It is exhilarating to be part of such a big event. NOMAD has a ten-year tradition of providing a team of volunteers to staff the main ring, where all the Finals take place. If you don't want to take your dog, you might want to consider going as a volunteer. What is a better vacation than spending time watching the best agility in the world from ringside seats, while hanging out with your agility pals and making new agility friends from around the world? There are usually competitors from Japan, Mexico, England, Russia, Hungary, and other countries. There are also competitors from Puerto Rico, but that s NOT another country! To qualify for Cynosport, you need at least two Qs in each of two of the four events: Grand Prix/Performance Grand Prix, Steeplechase/Performance Speed Jumping, Team Tournament/Performance Versatility Pairs, and Biathlon/Performance Biathlon (Masters Challenge Jumpers and Masters Challenge Standard.) You can enter these events at local trials regardless of your dog s level in USDAA. In other words, you don t have to work your way up through the levels to run in these tournament events. Even a Starters dog can run in tournament classes. NOMADers who have volunteered and/or competed in past years would all be happy to help anyone decide whether to go this year. In addition to me, they include Lynne von Trapp, Kit Erskine, Judy Kessler, Jen Hammond, Ann Ramsay, Judy Frey, John Marcus, Lisa Marcus, Virginia Besthoff, Sharon Wirant, Mark Wirant, Maxine Holmes, and Don Denette. I hope I haven t left anyone out! Weekend Workshop Information, Registrants will get a place in the Jessica Ajoux Weekend Workshops based on the order of postmark, beginning with July 6, 2015.
