Head Coach Steve Nunno 6th Season (101-64) Two-time USA Olympic Coach Steve Nunno is one of the most successful gymnastics coaches ever in the United States. At the elite level, his gymnasts have won more national and international medals than any other coach in the country. Now at the helm of the University of Oklahoma, Nunno has started to rewrite the record books as well. The 2005 OU women s gymnastics team finished the season 19-17 and earned a 12th place finish at the NCAA Championships. For the first time in history, Nunno led the to a second consecutive appearance at the NCAA National Championships. In 2004, he led OU to its first Big 12 Conference title ever. In addition, his athletes won three out of four event titles and the all-around title at the 2004 Big 12 Championship. His squad then went on to win the program s first regional title, the 2004 West Regional. As a result, the team advanced to the NCAA Championships for the fourth time in school history and did so with the highest national ranking ever (No. 5) for an OU team. Three (Erin LaBarr, Kasie Tamayo and Tiffany Willin) achieved All-America honors and became the first to be honored as All-Americans in 15 years. It s taken us five years to build a program that can now contend for a top spot amongst the nation s best teams. I believe that we now have our best team in the history of the program here at the University of Oklahoma. After 20 years of elite coaching excellence, Nunno is entering his sixth year as the head coach at OU. He has been named the Big 12 Coach of the Year two times. His Sooner squads have been ranked in the regular season s top 10 during for the past four seasons. In his five years, Nunno had led the to a 94-58 mark and three appearances at the NCAA Championship. In addition, four have garnered All-America honors and three others have earned Big 12 Gymnasts of the Year awards (Marianna Goncalves-2002, Kasie Tamayo-2004 and Erin LaBarr-2005). Hardy is in his sixth season as head coach and holds a 57-75 career record. Hardy has never faced the in a dual meet. The team is led by sophomore Meredith Smith and junior Kristina Menne. Oklahoma has faced one of its most challenging schedules in program history. OU is 3-6 on the season versus ranked opponents and has arguably the toughest schedule in the nation. The have faced No.1-ranked Georgia twice, No. 4 Iowa State, No. 7 LSU, No. 8 Stanford No. 11 Nebraska and No. 12 Missouri. The Rankings The Oklahoma women s gymnastics team moved up one spot to No. 5 in the latest GymInfo poll released on March 6. This marks the second time this season the have been ranked No. 5. Oklahoma s highest ranking in school history was achieved during the 2005 season when OU moved to No. 3. That same year they were ranked No. 5 for one week. The stay in first in the South Central Region with a 196.210 RQS, but are still second behind Iowa State (196.225) in the Big 12 Conference. Freshman Haley DeProspero is ranked No. 21 in the all-around and tied for 25th on vault. Sophomore Kiara Redmond is tied for 17th on floor and junior Lori Winn sits at a tie for 14th on balance beam. The Big 12 continues to prove that it is arguably the toughest conference in the country with all four teams ranked in the top 15. Iowa State leads the way at No. 4, OU No. 5, Nebraska No. 11 and Missouri No. 12. It is the only conference other then the SEC that has four teams ranked in the top 15. Unlike other collegiate athletic rankings, collegiate gymnastic rankings are not based on wins and losses or votes. Gymnastics teams are ranked by their meet scores alone. From Jan. 9-Feb. 16, teams were ranked by their total season average. Starting on Feb. 20, teams and gymnasts were ranked by a Regional Qualifying Score (RQS). An RQS is based on a team s top six regular-season scores, with three scores coming from away meets. To obtain the RQS, the team s or gymnast s highest score is dropped and the remaining five scores are averaged. 4 NCAA National Appearances - 2 NCAA All-Around Titles - 4 NCAA All-Around Appearances

I am extremely proud of our team, said head coach Steve Nunno. Not only do we have one of the most talented teams in program history but they are one of the best academically.
