Training for the Michigan Concealed Pistol License Tri-County Sportsman s League offers NRA Personal Protection in the Home courses that exceed the training requirements for a Michigan CPL. This is not a Boot Camp the course goal is to develop in the students the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding citizen s right to self-defense. We offer high quality instruction from an experienced staff of NRA instructors in a non-smoking, classroom environment. Learn to recognize the physiological and psychological changes that occur to your body in a life threatening situation and how to cope with them. Shoot with your weak hand, from behind cover, and practice point shooting (without sights). Shoot in a covered, outdoor pistol range. You will have the opportunity to train at, and perhaps join, one of the largest sportsman s clubs in the state of Michigan. You may choose to improve your defensive shooting skills at Tri-County Sportsman s League by participating in an International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) match. Several NRA Instructors who teach the Personal Protection classes also help run the IDPA matches at the club. 2004 Personal Protection Class Schedule September: 10-11, October: 1-2, November: 5-6, December: 3-4 2004 Bowling Pin Shoots: The 2004 Bowling Pin Season is about to begin. For those that do not know about our shoots, let me explain a little about how it works. First off, everyone is welcome to come out and shoot at these events. Members are encouraged to bring friends, a spouse, or youngsters out to compete in these events. There are 5 different classes that you may compete in. They are: stock revolver, modified revolver, stock semi-auto and 22 cal. Generally what qualifies as a modified gun is anything that has a muzzle break, scope, or red dot. Shooters stand 25 feet away from a table with 5 bowling pins on it. At the sound of a timer, the shooter raises their gun and shoots until all the pins are knocked down. Shooters will shoot a total of 6 tables during the day. We take your 5 best times and average them out, for your final score. The shooters with the lowest average time, wins the cash in their category. You may enter as many different classes that you want. Entry fee is $12.00 for each class you wish to shoot in. We also have 2 dates set aside as mixed doubles. On these dates you are urged to bring a shooting partner (of the opposite sex) along with you and together your team will shoot simultaneously at a table with 10 bowling pins. You will shoot 4 tables during the day and we will take your 3 best times and average them out to determine the winners in each class. Entry fee for mixed doubles is $25.00 per team for each class. If you cannot find a partner to bring, come anyway, you may be able to find someone at the shoot that will be glad to partner up with you. On these mixed doubles dates, shooters may also come out and shoot individually in the regular classifications. I m hoping to see all the regulars as well as many new faces at this years events. These are great events to get youngsters started in shooting. Sign up begins at 11:30am shooting starts at 12:00 noon. The dates are: July 18 th - August 15 th (mixed doubles) - September 12 th Any questions please contact Mike Cowhy (734) 429-2446. All interested members (Pistol Shooters) are urged to attend a special meeting on Wednesday, July 14th, at 6:30 p.m. at the clubhouse. At issue, is the designing or re-designing of the existing range to accomodate future IDPA events. Any questions, call Mike Cowhy at 429-2446, or e- mail at car64mc@peoplepc.com 4 JULY, 2004 5 6 7 1 BOARD MEETING 7:30 2 3 8 9 10 11 18 PIN SHOOT 25 12 13 Home Firearm Safety 6-9pm 14 19 20 21 26 27 28 15 Drawing #11 Gun of the Month Raffle/Salmon Raffle BURGER NIGHT 22 23 STEAK FRY DANCE 16 17 29 30 31 ORIENTATION 8-11AM 24 ***IDPA***

EMAIL MARGIE AT: Bugsy1099@yahoo.com WITH ANY UPCOMING EVENTS YOU WOULD LIKE POSTED IN THE NEWSLETTER A very successful Walleye fishing trip was had aboard Eric Walline's boat the "TROPHY CUP", the flagship of Gold Coast Charters. The four raffle winners left Luna Pier at 7 AM under cloudy skies with 12 mph winds and headed into the choppy waters of Lake Erie. They returned under sunny skies with 16 Walleyes, great memories, and new friendships. Despite the Walleyes' reluctance to bite (their bellies full from a new hatch of Mayflies and their sight impaired by the run-off from the previous night's rain storm) Captain Eric guided us to the fish that eluded many other skippers that day. While all four anglers contributed to the days catch, Matt Mahony, standing in for Jake Meadows, landed the largest Walleye of the day. Joe Chie hooked the largest Sheephead, Elwood Van Loon, standing in for Sandy Van Loon, reeled in the largest White Bass, and Ed Mahony caught the trophy Weedpike. WE NEED YOUR HELP: For the new restroom at Tri- County we need a ceramic tile person and we also need a painter.
