Chapter 1 : THE 10 BEST Florida Hotel Deals (Nov ) - TripAdvisor Dog-friendly public beaches do exist and you need to know few things about bringing your dog to the beach. There are no particular rules for public beaches except use your common sense and respect other people, but I suggest you to ask to local tourist information office to know the local rules as they could change for any reason. As a pet owner, few things are better than a beautiful beach that welcomes your pup to dig in the sand, splash around in the water, and otherwise have fun in the sun. From the white sand beaches of Florida to the rugged islands on the Atlantic coast, dog beaches can be found wherever people like to go on vacation. From coast to coast, here are the best dog-friendly beaches the country has to offer. The beach is regularly used to host special events for dogs, including canine weddings, dog surfing competitions, and a special annual corgi beach day. Signs indicate that dogs must be on a 6-foot leash, but the beach is known to locals as an off-leash beach and dogs are only ever cited by the city if deemed dangerous. Amenities include restrooms, picnic tables, and complimentary doggie waste bags, and the beach is open every day between 5 a. Amenities include public washrooms, picnic tables, a snack shack, a volleyball area, and sailboat racks, and the beach is wheelchair accessible. Plenty of parking is available, and a parking fee is charged to non-residents between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The beach is open to the public every day from dawn to dusk, but dogs are only permitted between October 1st and April 1st. Dogs must be controlled at all times, and visitors should be aware that the water is home to sea lice and jellyfish that can harm dogs. Owners are required to clean up after their pets, and plenty of free doggie waste bag dispensers can be found along the beach. The sand is kept clean thanks to monthly volunteer beach cleanups, which visitors are more than welcome to join. However, anyone wanting to let their dog run free only needs to head north of the South Dunes Picnic Area. The beach is maintained by a volunteer organization known as MonDog, and visitors who enjoyed their time at the beach are encouraged to make a small donation. Assateague Island - MD Located in the Atlantic Ocean just off the east coast of the mainland, Assateague Island is a rugged mile island split between the states of Maryland and Virginia. Animals are only allowed on the northern section of the island that belongs to Maryland; the Virginia portion of the island is a national wildlife refuge, and pets are not even permitted to enter this part of the island in vehicles. Dogs are required to be on a 6-foot leash at all times, and visitors to the beach are charged an admission fee. Dog beach near me: The city works to keep the beaches as clean as possible, and pet owners are required to use the provided doggie waste bags to clean up after their furry friends. Permits are required between mid-june and mid-september. Dogs must always be kept on a leash; this is especially important when exploring the sandy beaches along Lake Michigan, which are home to a species of endangered bird known as the piping plover. The dunes are surrounded by freshwater ponds, and many are covered with dune grass. Galveston - TX Featuring 32 miles of dog-friendly beaches, the city of Galveston is the ideal vacation destination for pets and their owners. Parking can be found along the side of the road, but summer visitors are advised to go early to secure a good spot. It also happens to be incredibly pet friendly; there are no vehicles on the island, and dogs and other animals are welcome on the ferry. The island is ringed by 14 miles of beach, and off-leash dogs are permitted on all of them at almost every time of the year. However, this changes during turtle nesting season, when dogs must be kept on a leash between sunset and sunrise. The entrance to the beach is marked with a large red fire hydrant, and visitors are welcome every day between 6 a. Leashed dogs are welcome on every part of the beach, and there is even an off-leash area for dogs to get some exercise and play with the other pups visiting the beach. There is no fee for admission, and beach chairs and umbrellas can be rented from the kiosks that dot the beach. County to permit dogs off the leash. The beach is not fenced in, and dogs must be on a leash whenever not in the designated dog zone. Visitors are not permitted to bring more than one dog per person, and all dogs are required to have collars and up-to-date vaccinations. The beach is open every day between 6 a. Visitors to the beach will usually find it to be quiet and uncrowded, making it easy to enjoy the views of downtown San Diego. Facilities on the beach are limited, but free doggie waste bags are available and there are several bonfire pits available for visitors to use. Visitors and their dogs are discouraged from swimming as the currents can be extremely strong, but there are plenty of excellent hiking Page 1

trails to enjoy, including some that lead up to the top of the sandy foot bluffs that border the beach. Leashed dogs are permitted in almost every part of the park, but the highlights for pet owners are the quarter-mile-long off-leash dog beach and the enclosed 2. Petersburg, FL, Phone: The island has a number of beaches to offer, but the most popular with pet owners is Algiers Beach in Gulfside City Park. Dogs must be kept on an 8-foot leash, but there is plenty of space for pets and their owners to move around and get some exercise. An hourly fee is charged for parking, and beach amenities include a shady picnic area, boardwalks that provide easy access to the sand, and public barbecue grills. Sitting on the Manasquan Inlet, the park offers several hundred feet of beachfront and more than 50 acres of marshland that pets and their owners can explore. Admission is free, and the park is open from 7 a. The walking path that runs along the beach is the perfect place to stretch your legs and give your dog some exercise, and it provides direct access to the beach for when your furry friend is ready to go play in the sand or the water. Montauk Beach - NY One of the most popular weekend vacations spots with visiting New Yorkers, Montauk boasts miles of white sandy beaches. However, dogs are welcome to run free on the beaches during all other times. There are also several beautiful trails that pets and their owners can explore, including the Point Woods Loop Trail, which has excellent ocean views, and the area around Montauk Point Lighthouse. Cannon Beach - OR Cannon Beach is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in Oregon, and it also happens to be one of the most dog-friendly beaches in the country. A unique dog show takes place here every October, but the beach is a great destination at every other time of year as well. Visitors are sure to work up an appetite while visiting the beach, and many of the nearby restaurants have oceanfront patios that welcome pets. However, leashes are required on every part of the island; this rule is enforced particularly heavily during the later part of the spring, as this is when the local piping plovers make their nests on the beaches. Because the island is undeveloped, visitors must bring enough food and fresh water for both themselves and their pets. All breeds of dog are welcome, but animals must have up-to-date vaccinations and collars tagged with current licenses issued by the County Department of Animal Services. The dog area is approximately 1. Visitors are welcome to explore the tide pools on the beach and there are also plenty of amenities, including fire pits, washrooms and showers, picnic tables, and a volleyball area. Page 2

Chapter 2 : Fort Lauderdale Beaches Beaches in the Fort Lauderdale Area Featuring 32 miles of dog-friendly beaches, the city of Galveston is the ideal vacation destination for pets and their owners. All of the beaches require dogs to be kept on a leash, but there's plenty of room for you and your furry friend to stretch your legs. However, those looking for busier beaches will enjoy the several beaches near the more developed areas such as Kitty Hawk and Nags Head, NC. The lighthouses along the coast are some of the most beautiful and romantic in the country and many can be toured. Here are the best North Carolina beaches. The more than 70 miles of protected seashore runs from Ocracoke Island to Bodie Island. There are three visitor centers that provide information, programming, and gift shops. The museum also displays artifacts from the many shipwrecks that lie off the coast. Four campgrounds are located along the seashore for visitors who are interested in spending the night. NC Beaches Near Me: The islands offer everything you need for a relaxing vacation, including plenty of accommodation options ranging from full service resorts to more budget-friendly hotels. Activities on the water include kayaking, paddleboarding, surfing, and fishing. Several boat companies offer evening harbor cruises. Beyond the beaches, visitors can bike the Wrightsville Beach Loop Trail or explore the town on foot. Shopping options include surf shops, open-air villages, and boutiques. Here, visitors can experience the natural beauty of the Outer Banks yet still have easy access to amenities such as restaurants, mini golf, and shopping. The Bodie Island Lighthouse is not far from Nags Head, and visitors can climb to the top during the summer. The pier offers a good location to fish as well as a small, kid-friendly museum. Keep reading for more vacation ideas on the North Carolina coast. North Carolina Beaches Near Me: Topsail Beach Topsail Beach stretches from the town limits of Surf City to the southern end of the island. The center cares for sea turtles who have been injured or who are sick. The island has many beach houses for rent and retains the laid-back feel that is common in the Outer Banks and barrier islands. Boat rentals are available as well as numerous beach access points. Kure Beach Kure Beach is a beach on the Bogue Banks that features a beautiful setting, a relaxed atmosphere, and just the right amount of development to provide visitors with a comfortable vacation. The oldest fishing pier on the Atlantic coast juts out into the ocean and is a popular attraction in itself, whether you are walking along the pier to take in the sights or hoping to reel in a big catch. The North Carolina Aquarium is located nearby, as are many restaurants and shops. Currituck Beach Currituck Beach is clean, quiet, and serene but is still close enough to town to offer plenty of things to do. The area is famous for being home to wild Spanish mustangs, and several companies offer wild horse tours for visitors who would like to ride and see the horses in person. Visitors can tour the lighthouse seasonally, and the property contains a museum store. The nearby Currituck Banks Reserve is a preserved natural area where visitors can hike, fish, hunt, and more. Keep reading for more vacation spots on the North Carolina coast. Carova Beach Carova Beach is a remote stretch of shoreline in the northernmost part of the Outer Banks. The beach is only accessible by boat or 4WD vehicle along a paved road from Corolla. Wild horses can be spotted roaming freely on the beaches here. There are no shops, restaurants, or any other attractions; development is limited to beach homes and a rescue station. Popular ways to spend time at Carova Beach include sailing, windsurfing, and kiteboarding. The area is also a popular spot for fishing. The nearby town of Corolla offers restaurants, shops, and attractions such as the Corolla Wild Horse Museum. This museum is located in a historical schoolhouse that features informative and interactive exhibits about wild horses. Keep reading for more North Carolina beaches and find the closest beach near me. Best Beaches in North Carolina: The entire shore is part of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. Ocracoke attracts visitors who are looking for relaxing, wide-open spaces to enjoy such activities as surfing, flying kites, sunbathing, boogie-boarding, and building sandcastles. The beach and surrounding areas are home to many birds, fish, turtles, and other wildlife. Birdwatchers come to see the more than species of birds that can be found on Ocracoke. The Ocracoke Lighthouse is one of the most popular attractions on the island. The lighthouse is still active and visitors can tour the grounds. Ocracoke Island is accessible by ferry, and several ferries make the trip daily. The laid-back barrier island provides the perfect mix of an easy-going, peaceful time at the beach and amenities such as Page 3

marinas, mini golf, and bike rentals. The mile stretch of sand is perfect for unwinding and enjoying everything one expects from a North Carolina beach. The refuge exists to protect and provide a habitat for migratory birds. Animals that can be seen in the park include the greater snow goose and many other waterfowl, wading birds, raptors as well as endangered species such as the loggerhead sea turtle. There are several trails in the refuge that can be used by visitors for birdwatching, hiking, wildlife photography, and fishing. Bear Island is the main attraction at the park and is a 3-mile-long barrier island that is accessible by park ferry, private ferry, or by paddling a canoe or kayak. The only semblance of development is a basic concession and picnic complex. The mainland section of the park houses a full-service visitor center that provides visitors with access to the ferry as well as a launch site for rented or personal canoes. Holden Beach Holden Beach is an 8-mile stretch of sand on a barrier island off the North Carolina coast. The Intracoastal Waterway separates the islands from the mainland. Visitors can canoe or kayak the waterway and perhaps catch a glimpse of the endangered loggerhead sea turtles that frequent the area. Shrimp boats travel up and down the waterway as they enter and leave the open ocean, which can be an interesting sight. Visitors can spot dolphins playing in the surf during the day and ghost crabs in the sand by flashlight at night. The annual North Carolina Festival by the Sea is a popular event featuring handicrafts and delicious food. Keep reading for more North Carolina beaches. The beach features a slowly sloping ocean floor, making it ideal for swimming because there are no drop-offs. This quiet escape is perfect for visitors who want to relax and enjoy the beach. The town has a few small restaurants and convenience stores. Accommodations in Frisco range from vacation rental homes of all sizes to campgrounds. Two of the most popular campgrounds on Hatteras Island are located in Frisco, including the National Park Service campground and the Frisco Woods Campground, which features private campsites, a swimming pool, and a small convenience store. Frisco has a go-cart track, a mini golf course, and a company that offers flight tours. Albeit a rather strangely named beach, Canadian Hole has long been well known among water sports aficionados. The sound has some of the best wind and water conditions, attracting fans of windsurfing, stand-up paddleboarding, and kiteboarding all year round. The beach is also popular with young families, who enjoy the quiet waters. The water is shallow for several hundred feet out into the sound and is virtually always calm. The sunset is amazing over the sound, with views of Hatteras Lighthouse in the distance. Keep reading for more amazing places to see on the North Carolina coast. Most of the accommodation consists of rental homes. The Salvo Day Use Area is a popular destination for kiteboarding and other water sports. This public park is part of the National Park Service and features sandy beaches and perfect access for water sports. The Pamlico Sound is shallow and calm near the shore, which makes it perfect for families with young children. Beaches in North Carolina: The beach is completely undeveloped but is located close enough to the well-developed towns of Nags Head and Kitty Hawk, where visitors can find services and restaurants if desired. The beach is accessible only by foot or 4WD vehicle. The beach is the location of the shipwreck Laura Barnes from, and a few pieces of the ship still remain. Coquina Beach is a popular location along the Outer Banks for surf fishing, which is at its best in the spring or fall. Coquina is the perfect place for a quiet, relaxing beach trip not too far off the beaten path. It is only accessible by ferry from Southport and the island has very few cars. Most of the residents drive golf carts or pedal bicycles around. The island is famous for the sea turtles that nest here and Cape Fear Point is a popular attraction. It is here that the Frying Pan Shoals extend out into the ocean for 30 miles. These sand bars seem to rise up from underwater and descend back as the tide ebbs and flows. In addition to enjoying the picturesque beaches, popular activities on the island involve renting bikes to cycle around the island, taking hikes, and going on canoe and kayak tours. Closest beach near me: This beach features a vintage boardwalk with live music, great fishing, and several events throughout the year. The boardwalk contains several restaurants, an ice cream store, and more. The visitor center displays exhibits related to local and state natural history. The oceanfront is filled with homes and a few condominiums, but there are no hotels on the beachfront, giving the beach a decidedly family-friendly feel. The Bogue Inlet Fishing Pier is a popular place to try and test your luck with a rod and reel. A plethora of kid-friendly activities give families plenty of reasons to choose Emerald Isle as their next vacation spot. The island can be reached via one of two bridges across the sound. Most accommodations on the beach are private homes. Page 4
