There is no limit on the number of members a county may register in the contest. Registration for the Horse Judging State Contest will take place through 4HOnline and will close on February 8 th. Registered youth will receive, via email, an information letter with maps, details, etc. You don't have to be enrolled in the horse project to participate. Horse Judging Clinic -Please keep a lookout for information regarding a horse judging clinic hosted by the Missouri Quarter Horse Association. The clinic will take place on Friday, February 22 nd at the National Equestrian Center. The clinic will consist of two sessions; the first at 1 p.m. for advanced judgers and the second at 6 p.m. for younger or more novice judgers. Registration for this clinic will be handled by Missouri Quarter Horse Association (just like last year). Meats Judging State Contest-February 16 at Eckles Hall on MU campus. Registration deadline is Feb. 1. Please register in 4-H online. There is a judging/competition portion and also a workshop option for those that would like to learn the basics of meat judging. Teen Conference-Come join the game of leadership at the 2019 State 4-H Teen Conference, March 16-17 in Columbia! The State 4-H Council is planning another don t miss event that you ll be talking about all year. Teen Conference begins at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday and ends by noon on Sunday. Registration is $189 for youth (sharing a bed with a friend you select) and for chaperones. For youth who would prefer their own bed, registration is $239. Registration through 4H Online will open on December 10, 2018, and extend through February 1, 2019. Late registration is open February 2-10 with an additional $50 late fee. Missouri 4-H needs 20 teens age 14-18 who would like to build their leadership and facilitation skills by being a teen teacher for the Ag Innovators Experience this spring and summer at camps, fairs, afterschool, and festivals. The recruitment is for 20 teens where three will be selected as the training team who will attend the training in Ames, Iowa on February 8 & 9. They will return and train 17 Missouri teens in March to carry out the Native Bee Challenge. Contact Ty Peckman for more information at tpeckman@missouri.edu. Missouri Youth Civic Leaders Summit-Registration is now open for this event which runs March 1-3 at Windermere Conference Center. Scholarships are available at the Callaway Extension Office for this event. 4-H Move Across Missouri-4-H Move promotes physical activity and encourages youth to engage in a broad range of activities such as walking, biking, running, swimming, dance and more. Enroll in the MOVE project Jan. 1 in 4-H online. Using a paper tracking system at http://4h.missouri.edu/4hmove/moveinfo log the number of minutes you accumulate. Youth and families will submit their totals logged until May 1 for prizes. 4-H Feeding Missouri Missouri 4-H has an exciting project this February: We will be partnering with Feeding Missouri in a first-of-its-kind statewide food drive, and every 4-H club in the state can contribute to its success! Our goal is to raise one million meals. Stay tuned for more information! This would be a great idea for a club community service! Please have at least 2 members from each club present at the meeting. Beef Weigh In-This will be Jan. 26, from 8-10am at the Callaway Livestock Center. Lamb & Goat Weigh-In-There will be a physical lamb and goat weigh in this year on May 11 from 10am-12pm. Location to be determined. Beef Fitting Clinic-Mark your calendars. Scholarships 4-H Foundation Scholarships-The Missouri 4-H Foundation offers educational scholarships for 4-H youth and former 4-H members pursuing post-secondary study. More than sixty scholarships are available, each ranging from $500 to $2,500. One scholarship application allows the applicant to be considered for any available scholarship, subject to the conditions specified by the donor. Applications are accepted after January 1 and are due with a postmark date of March 1 to the state 4-H office. The county due date for applications will be Thursday, February 21. After county approval and signature, your application will be mailed to the state 4-H office by your county. Missouri State Fair Ag Scholarship-Deadline is Feb. 1. See details in Dec. 3 newsletter. Other Happenings MO Beef for MO Kids-Cattlemen and Cattlewomen: The North Callaway School District is looking for donations of three cull cows to kick off the MO Beef for MO Kids program. https://missourigrownusa.com/mobeef-for-mokids/ This is a great program to get locally sourced beef and added protein served to our school children and to increase awareness of the Missouri cattle industry. Six beef cows will be needed annually. This will add over 3,000 lbs. of beef to the North Callaway School lunches. Donations are tax deductible and the donor families will be recognized in the schools, in the community and at a kick-off dinner to be held in early February. Each donor will need to take their cow to a local processor in Fulton at a scheduled upon time. Donations are welcome from outside the county. Cost of processing is covered under this program.
