OFFICER REPORTS Secretary: Welcomed members and guests and called for a motion to accept the October minutes as published in the November Ultralog; seconded and approved. Treasurer: Report the status of the Club treasury to date; call for motion to approve; made, seconded and approved. Sergeant-At-Arms: Bryan Harmon asked about the status of Bob Chase hanger. Jim Farthing replied saying the hangar will be cleaned up/repaired then sold to raise money for Club operations. OTHER REPORTS Calendar Review: Dec 1 Club Christmas Party Award Stan Hauxhurst Jan 5 Club Meeting Award Top Gun 2018 Feb 2 Club Meeting Competition: There were three pilots competing: Gary Pittman 1 st Place 15 pts; Bryan Harmon 2 nd place 7 pts; Les Seymour 3 rd place 5 pts. Safety: Jim Farthing revisited a discussion of the new club requirement for two way radio communications to be used at our field/airport at all times also applies to Powered Parachute and PPG aircraft. Because of pilot concern during the competition of not knowing the intentions of a non-radio aircraft operating in the local area; Bryan Harmon suggested the Ultralight pattern be closed during Club Competition. There will be a three month transition period, until April 1, 2019, for non radio aircraft to be radio equipped and in compliance with our Club By-laws Attachment C paragraph 11. OLD BUSINESS 1. Sean Hopkins club initiation vote for permanent member status will be delayed while Sean is busy with his work schedule. 2. Larry Preston says he would like to get the Club House repairs completed before the 2018 Christmas Party. 3. John Kratz will purchase a windsock for placement mid field across from the club house. 4. Les Seymour stated the club signage at the field needs refurbishing. Mike Porter/Larry Preston has the contact for making signs. We just need to measure the dimensions of the sign and identify the location and it can be done. NEW BUSINESS 1. Voting for Stan Hauxhurst recipient was completed and will be awarded at the Christmas Party.

It is a rearranging of the bottom left box and shows pilot ranking best to last for the year through November. Also it shows the percentage of competitions participated in the column % PART. The column SKILL is a relabeling of average points per competition over the number of months scored. As you can see it is generally true that, for a given skill level, the more competitions you compete in the bigger your score will be. Also the maximum number of points per competition event possible increases with the number of contestants, e.g. we always have three events; with two people competing the maximum points you get is 6 (3 events x 2 pilots); with 5 competitors the maximum points available are 15(3 x 5). The top three pilots have a skill level twice as big as the bottom three indicating the effects of both low participation and low skill. Bryan Harmon in the top three only participated in 3 competitions and has a skill level higher than Pittman; if he had participated in four competitions instead of three there would be a good chance he would be in second place. It is informative to break down the points per competition into totals and averages over the number of competitions flown and see why the ones at the top are there; and if YOU want to be more competitive look and see what you need to change. These numbers can be improved with practice and training to become consistent in your flying technique. For those want to compete but are not sure how to be competitive or if you want to increase your skill I propose an informal discussion by any interested members on a Saturday afternoon after the meeting. Also we could schedule in the air competition training at the field in the early am on a non club meeting day.
