President s Letter FOOTPRINTS Volume 6, Issue 3 Summer 2016 by Kelly Spreha As mentioned in the January Footprints President s Letter, the HARRC board members and volunteers are working to continue the rich traditions in the club s 42-year history, while simultaneously molding the club to meet the needs and desires of the current running community. At our March board meeting, we watched the TED talk by Simon Sinek, in which he talks about the importance of starting with the question Why? and we used his talk to frame our dialogue. We all agreed that HARRC s Why is to engage with the community at large, and to share the joy of running with as many people as possible in the greater Harrisburg area. We want it to be a fun community of support and encouragement. We want HARRC to be inviting to runners of all ages and abilities. With this in mind, we dialogued at length about how we can use our Why to continue building the bridge between history and today. The fruits of the discussion are some exciting changes to the HARRC running schedule: We will still have weekly Sunday club runs (generally Sundays at 8:30am), but we will no longer time the runs every single week. We will only time the monthly Age Group Championship Series (AGCS) runs. The other Sunday runs will be fun runs of varying distances, and at various locations. We thought this maintained the tradition of the weekly club runs, and allowed us to continue the AGCS, but would offer a more fun, relaxed, and inviting atmosphere. We are also introducing Full Moon Fun Runs! The distances/times/locations will vary, but we will be hosting a run on the date of each full moon. Our first full moon run was held at Fleet Feet Sports in Mechanicsburg on May 21 st at 7:00PM. A big thank you to Fleet Feet for hosting the first run and providing Blue Moon for a post-run refreshment. Be sure to check our Facebook page and the website for additional details as the run dates get closer. We are excited to offer more opportunities for local runners of all skill levels to come together in community and share the joy - we can t wait to see you there!

HOW does The Age Group Championship Series Work? 1 Point For Each Person Finishing Behind You An Additional 5 Points For Finishing the Run Race Directors Automatically Receive 6 Points OR Actual Points If They Choose to Run Six Races Required to Win! SAVE THE DATE! HARRC is teaming up with Fleet Feet Sports to host an Olympic Day event on June 23rd! Stay tuned for more details.
