I want to thank the committee members: Owen Jarvis, Paul Jones, Allan Bicknell and Matthew McAnna for their contribution to another successful year for the NSWRYA. Thanks go also to the clubs that support our Association and their office bearers. Special thanks are due to those clubs that support our State Championships, Grand Prix and Interclub events. Without this support the State Association could not function effectively. The internet and particularly our NSW web site is successfully providing information to potential NSW members. Club executive members should regularly check their listing on the NSW internet site (www.radiosailingnsw.org.au) to ensure the information shown is up to date. Please advise our Secretary if any changes are required. Robert Hales President NSWRYA Inc. NSWRYA Secretaries Report 2009 NSWRYA decreased its total membership by 11 to 277. NSW has the second largest membership in Australia after Queensland. There are 19 clubs affiliated with the NSWRYA sailing in NSW including a new club, the Carss Park Radio Sailing Club sailing A Class yachts from the Sea Scouts facility on Kogarah Bay. The CPRSC shares this facility with the East Coast Sailing Association. The National Capital Radio Yacht Club with ten members affiliated with NSW late in the year and will be included in the 2009/2010 report.

Unfortunately the Hunter Radio Yacht Club and the Pittwater Model Yacht Club did not renew their affiliation with the NSWRYA and appear to have folded. Below is a listing of the club memberships of the NSWRYA for the previous year and this year. (Club membership/total Membership including additional members) Club 2007/8 2008/9 Ancient Mariners 11/11 8/8 Ballina 12/12 13/13 Carss Park 0 10/10 Central Coast 14/15 17/18 Chipping Norton 4/4 3/3 Dobroyd RC Laser 9/9 13/13 Drummoyne 13/14 15/18 East Coast Sailing Assn 21/25 12/17 Forster-Tuncurry 13/13 15/15 Harrington Park 19/20 21/21 Hunter 6/6 0 Kogarah Bay 28/37 23/31 Lake Macquarie 41/43 39/40 Northern Mariners 4/6 5/7 Pittwater 8/8 0 Southern Cross 14/14 12/14 Sydney A 7/7 6/6 Sydney Maritime Modellers 36/36 32/32 Sydney Model Yacht Squadron 4/6 4/9 Tabourie Lake 11/11 14/14 Wollongong 14/15 15/16 Total 288/311 277/305 In the second half of last year, the 2008 State Championships were successfully held for RM, 10R and IOM, and so far in 2009 State Championships have been held for Soling 1m and the RC Laser. The Australian EC12 Championship was held at Harrington Park in May. The State Championships for EC12, RM, A Class, 10R and IOM, and Australian Championships for the RC Laser are all scheduled before the end of the year. In the National Titles held in Perth in January only the IOM class was contested by NSW sailors. Paul Jones came second on equal points with Craig Smith, who won on count back. Gary Declauzel was 3 rd in the EC12s. The IOM World Champion, Brad Gibson is defending his title in Barbados. The 2009 World Championships start today. Good Luck Brad. The Australia Day Regatta was held at Drummoyne Sailing Club and it was a great day for all the classes to get together and show the depth of the sport. Thanks to all who came and enjoyed the day.

The NSWRYA calendar again is full of events such as Interclub Challenge s and Grand Prix s. These events are a great opportunity for sailors at all levels to hone there skills and sail against the best of each class. I encourage the new and long time skippers in every class to join these events. For all the latest information on upcoming events and results check the NSWRYA website. www.radiosailingnsw.org.au Sadly former Secretary and Publicity Officer Susan McAnna passed away on the 24th of July. Although Susan was part of the Radio Yachting community for only a few years she left an indelible mark and will be missed by all. Errol Coates from the Ancient Mariners passed away late last year. He is missed by all who sailed with him. Thank you to my fellow Association Executive members and all the Club Secretaries for their assistance during the year. Best Regards Owen Jarvis NSWRYA Secretary NSWRYA Treasurers Report 2009 Balance at 1 June 2008 $5326.63 Income $4908.69 Outgoings $4629.20 Balance at 31 May 2009 $5606.12 Owen Jarvis NSWRYA Secretary/Treasurer NSWRYA Publicity Officers Report 2009 Radio yachting in NSW over the past year has been as they say been ticking along fairly smoothly. Sadly due to my circumstances I personally haven t been able to take on any new major initiatives or projects in relation to the promotion of the sport to the general public in order to promote greater membership numbers. One event that has come from me taking up the position is that it was decided given my experience in website administration and as part of my position, that I enquire if Eddie Cowell, the current website administrator who is based in Qld, was happy for NSWRYA to self administer the Association s website. Eddie was happy for us to do this. So to that ends, and I am sure all skippers who have visited the site over the past 12 months will have noticed, the site has become a bit more dynamic, with regular updates particularly in relation to Notices or Races, Skipper Lists and the Event results.

As a side note though, I acknowledge that with this new found dynamics there have been issues with the online submissions race entries members, to that ends I am looking at newer internet technologies to improve these inadequacies. Not with standing that noted problem, I would like to think that in some small part the improved website content has attributed to the greater turn outs, particularly to some of the more traditional, less attended events. For example, the 10R Mazda Trophy had an unprecedented 20 boats turn up for the day with a number of skippers coming from different states. And likewise with that of the two State sanctioned classes (Soling One Metre & RC Laser) both have had very impressive turnouts for their recent respective State Championship events. Sadly though, as I mentioned before my personal circumstances have not allowed me to promote the sport to the extent it deserves or to the credit of the position and I do apologize for this. So to that ends I therefore wish to inform members that I will not be standing or accepting any nominations for re-election to the position of Publicity Officer for next year. I m sure those members that know my current personal circumstances will understand. However, should the in coming executive committee be agreeable with the offer; I am happy to continue to offer my services to the association in a new position of the NSWRYA Website Administrator and I look forward to working closely with the new Publicity Officer, along with the new executive as a whole. Matthew McAnna Publicity Officer (2008-2009) NSWRYA Soling Co-ordinator 2009 Report. This year 2009 has been a year of consolidation in the Soling One Metre R/C Yacht Class. There are now 101 numbers issued for yachts in NSW and two numbers now are unused as the boats no longer exist. Most of the yachts sail within the three Clubs, the Sydney Mariners, Lake Tabourie and the Central Coast RYC and boats within Sydney Model Yacht Squadron and Dobroyd R/C Laser Club. Boats are being built at St Georges Basin and these may sail at Tabourie or may even form another Club should numbers reflect such a need. The Class has again had a series of successful Interclub Regattas over the year at Castle Hill, Terrigal and Tabourie with the State Championship at Lake Tabourie having 20 entries for the two day event. The Interclub Regattas have an open invitation for all Soling one metres and the social side of sailing is enjoyed by all at such events. Another encouraging aspect is that Sydney Model Yacht Squadron and the Dobroyd RC Laser Club have recently introduced an ANZAC Cup for Solings between their Club members. The Soling R/C Yachts have proved themselves since their introduction. Many boats are now over 5 years old and are still in very good condition as well as being able to compete with the best. They have all sail in varying conditions from drifters to howling noreasters and the boats hold together extremely well, ideal for a modern class boat. The restricted design with the single rig and the solid keel seems to suit the smaller coastal lakes that have occasionally ribbon weed, variable conditions and

shallow water but they also sail very well in the more open areas of water. Terry Lester NSW Soling One Metre Co-ordinator. 16 June 2009
