Eighth Annual Torrance Rotary Club/T.U.S.D. Elementary Track Meet Schools competing this year: Friday, June 8, 2012 West High Stadium

WELCOME to the annual TUSD/Torrance Rotary Elementary Track Meet! We are excited to give the elementary students of Torrance this wonderful experience. Every student will receive a ribbon: a first, second, third place or participation ribbon for each event in which they participate. Team trophies for each grade level will be handed out at the conclusion of the meet. SPORTSMANSHIP TROPHY One of the most coveted trophies that will be presented at the end of today s meet is the Sportsmanship Trophy. Students are being judged on staying in their assigned area, their good sportsmanship, and keeping their area clean. Parents who are not coaches or team chaperones are not allowed on the track at any time as this may result in loss of points towards earning this trophy. More details about the Sportsmanship Trophy are on the following page. Please help our students as they work hard to bring the sportsmanship trophy home to their school. PICKING YOUR CHILD UP AT THE END OF THE MEET When you need to pick up your child to go home, please go around the outside of the track and check in with your school group and coaches. You will need to sign your child out to take them home. OFFICIAL TRACK MEET PHOTOS Pictures are being taken of the award stand at the conclusion of each race and each field event. These pictures will be posted on the following Web Site: www.torrancerotary.org FOOD STAND Make sure you visit the food stand, made available to you today by the West High School Track Team. APPRECIATION Many people volunteer to help make this Annual Torrance Rotary Club/TUSD Track Meet a success. Our sincere thanks go to: Torrance Rotary Club Mr. Jason Druten, WHS Track Coach School principals, coordinators and coaches Many parent volunteers and chaperones Page 2 of 6

Sportsmanship Trophy This is the largest trophy and most coveted award of the Meet. Judges are located at various locations: in the stands, on the field, walking around speaking with students and coaches and making general observations. They will award points on the following criteria: General observations, both positive and negative, will be made. Contestants remaining orderly and quietly in their team area when not competing Sportsmanlike conduct; thanking workers, congratulating others No showboating Staying until the end of the Meet to support their team Tidiness of their team area Overall pride and positive attitudes Cheering for your own team and others, congratulating team members who win or lose, and cheering for all contestants while they receive awards At the conclusion of all events, schools will be rated from 0 15 points: 0 = not observed 5 = seldom observed 10 = adequate 15 = superior A total of 10 points each will be lost for any of the following observed violations that may interfere with the actual running of the Meet: for parents coming on the field who are not part of that team s coaching staff or chaperones for team members who run around the outside of the track encouraging runners for any use of bad language and/or misbehavior at their team area on the grass for any unsportsmanlike conduct jeopardizing the chances of other athletes Note: Judges are members of the Rotary Club. There are typically four judges that begin judging from abut 3:30 p.m. until close to 7:30 p.m. These judges are typically new each year. At the end of their observations, numbers are tallied, and the winning team is announced at the end of the meet. Page 3 of 6
