The kids run is intended for children age seven and under and will take place around the park rides near the pavilion. Refreshments will be served after the Saturday events in the park pavilion. Awards will be presented as soon as possible after each event. Participant Instructions for Half-Marathon, Team Relay, Five-Mile Walk on Sunday, April 2: Most roads on the Run for Home route will be open to traffic. Runners must stay to the side of the road! Please run on the side of the road as instructed by the volunteers and signs along the route. Please note that for approximately the first four miles of the race, runners will be on the right side of the road. For most of the next nine miles, runners will be on the left side of the road (starting on Race St in Dover). The Road Runners Club of America and the Run for Home Road Runners Club regard the use of headphones to be a safety hazard. The use of headphones is strongly discouraged. Runners must be alert to traffic and be able to hear the volunteers! Walkers are encouraged to use the sidewalks wherever possible. The use of baby strollers or baby joggers is prohibited in the Run for Home 10K, half-marathon and team-relay. The inclusion of strollers increases the chance of injury for runners and children. The half-marathon and team-relay course will remain open for three and one-half hours. Showers, locker rooms, drinks, massages, medical assistance and other services will be available at the stadium locker room area at the finish line for Sunday events. Post-race food and entertainment will be available in the park pavilion. Awards will be presented at the park pavilion as soon as possible after each event. There will be nine aid stations along the route offering water and sports drink. Each aid station will be staffed by emergency medical personnel. Up to six aid stations will be equipped with an AED device. Port-a-johns will be situated at the relay exchange zones and several other locations on the route. The locations are listed below. The half-marathon route is a certified, 13.1 mile course. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE VOLUNTEERS AND PAY ATTENTION TO THE SIGNS. Wherever lanes are closed by cones, runners must stay within the closed lanes.
Special Notes for Relay Participants: At packet pick-up, one team member will receive an envelope with the team bib and belt to be worn by each relay runner. The belt and bib must be passed forward to the next runner in the relay exchange zone. The belt and bib should be returned to race officials in the finish line bullpen area. We strongly encourage one person to pick up all materials for the team at packet pick-up. The finishers medals given to all relay runners will also be used as the baton in the exchange zones. Runners in exchange zones one and two will be given finishers medals by volunteers at those sites. Runners starting a new leg of the relay will then hand the medals to their partner as the partner completes his or her leg of the relay and passes forward the belt and bib. The medals must be passed back from one runner to the other within the exchange zone. The person running the final leg of the race will receive his or her medal at the finish line. PLEASE RETURN THE BELT IN THE FINISH LINE BULLPEN AREA. A shuttle bus service will be available to take relay runners to the exchange zones. Two buses will leave Tuscora Park at 10:15 and 10:45 PM to take runners to the relay exchange areas. Please note that with approximately 100 relay teams entered in the Run for Home. we cannot guarantee space on the buses! Starting at about 11:30 AM, the buses will make several trips to the exchange areas to pick-up runners for the return to Tuscora Park. The first relay exchange point is on E. Second Street, approximately 3.5 miles into the race. The second relay exchange zone is at Crater Stadium, approximately 7.5 miles into the race. At both relay areas, relay runners will be instructed to stay to the left. Special Notes for the Five-Mile walk: The five-mile walk route follows the same route as the half-marathon and team-relay for nearly three miles, then turns right on to Iron Ave. near the county fairgrounds. While walking on Iron Ave. and the Boulevard, you may the use sidewalks for safety. The walk will be timed and the top three men and top three women walkers will receive awards. Walkers cannot run to be eligible for an award. If you see a walker run past you, please report it to a race official. At aide stations, volunteers fill water and sports drink cups only half way for the runners. If you want more, just ask! As you enter the park and stadium near the finish line, please stay to the left and be alert to runners coming up behind you.
