What a night of racing at the Forest City Velodrome in London Ontario last Saturday. Twenty-five of North America s best short track bicycle racers competed in the longest single day track race in the world. The event sponsored by Thor Espresso Bar in Toronto was 1380 laps or 190.44kms. Three members of the Canadian track cycling team were in attendance along with racers from England and the United States. The racing was like a prize fight as the short track cycling professionals took the gloves off and attacked one another all night long. In the end Ryan Aitcheson- 19 year old from Kitchener Ontario- out distanced Quebec racer Rémi Pelletier-Roy, and Martin Veccio from Detroit. Aitcheson took home the first prize of $2,500.00, the largest prize in Ontario track racing history. The 138m Forest City Velodrome is the only indoor cycling track in Ontario. Many cyclists are using the facility to train for the 2011 Pan Am Games in Mexico, later in the year. www.forestcityvelodrome.ca
