NSU IS WELL REPRESEN TED AT SPRING TRAINING DAN PETITBON AND JAMES TURNER ARE BUSY AT ROGER DEAN STADIUM ***************** James Turner, far right, did a 12 credit hour intern last summer at Roger Dean Stadium. It paid off because he was asked to return to work game operations for Spring Training and the Florida State League Season this year. Professor Olson caught up with him at a game between the Cardinals and Marlins. Although he had not had a day off since February, he is enjoying having the Big League teams at the facility and is looking forward to the upcoming Florida State League Season. Dan Petitbon s experience is not as hectic but very important to the St. Louis Cardinals baseball operations staff. He runs the trackman system. He arrives at the ballpark, grabs some lunch at the clubhouse, retrieves his computer and heads to the press box. He enters the line -ups and tracks every single pitch. After the game it is back to the Cardinals clubhouse where he downloads the information. Not every team uses trackman but the Cardinals feel it is important in making decisions. It helps that Dan was a member of the NSU Sharks Baseball Team. SAVE THE DATE! STUDENTS LEARN ABOUT NSU GAME OPERATIONS The Guest Speaker Series continued last week in SPT 3150, Facility and Event Management. The students heard about NSU Game Operations from Andrea Buenano, Coordinator of Athletic Academic Services, and Francisco Amado, Graduate Assistant for Game Operations. Andrea was the first person to hold the position of Game Operations Assistant. She and Francisco explained the detailed preparation which is necessary for home games. In addition, they need to be knowledgeable of both NCAA and Sunshine State Conference Rules which often impact game set-up. Francisco (gray shirt) and Andrea (beige blouse) are in the front row surrounded by students from the class.
