Crecora National School Newsletter Page 1 A Thuismitheoirí, I would like to preface this newsletter by expressing sympathy to Mrs. Humphreys on the recent death of her aunt. I would also like to inform you that Ms. Harney will start maternity leave on the 26 th June. Ms. Harney worked very hard this year and the children thrived in her care. I would like to take this opportunity to thank her and to wish her well. Ms. O Gorman will resume teaching Senior Infants on 26 th June. Con Kirby who has been selected by the Irish Junior Chess Committee to represent Ireland at the Glorney Gilbert International 2017 in Cardiff, Wales. Con Kirby who won the Primary Checkmate Ireland Competition 2017. Past pupil, Dylan O Byrne who was selected to represent St. Michael s Rowing club at Ghent International Regatta in Belgium, where he won bronze, silver and gold for his club and country. Claragh Collins who achieved a distinction in her speech and drama exam. She was also part of a team which took part in the under 9 Community Games Cross Country competition. Tom Fitzgerald who played for Adare in Croke Park U12 Football on 13 May when they won all their matches. Thomas Lynch, Olivia Lynch and Pierce Portley who received medals at the last day of rugby in Garryowen. All the children who took part in the Great Limerick Run. Megan O Shea who came 5 th in the All Ireland Community Games Swimming competition. Aaron McDonogh who won a rugby match. Jack Lane who played with Holy Cross in a soccer blitz. Dean Daly who took part in a soccer blitz with Regional United. Liam Mulqueen who took part in a soccer blitz with Mungret. Brian Maher who played in a soccer match against Ballynanty. Housekeeping: Many thanks to everybody for your generous support of our recent Book Fair. 985 was raised which will enable the school to avail of 394 worth of free books. Sincere thanks to the Parents Council who organised refreshments at the school after the First Holy Communion celebration. Your child s report will be posted on 14th June in accordance with Circular 0056/2011, issued by the Department of Education and Skills. Please ensure that you have furnished the school with a stamped addressed envelope in order to receive it. One envelope per family will suffice. The parents of the children in 6 th Class are invited to a Graduation Mass at 7 p.m. in the school on 19 th June. On 20th June, our school marks the wonderful awards received this year. These achievements include the presentation of medals to our sporting champions, certificates to the children who represented the school in the Limerick Primary Athletics competition, certificates to the children in Ms. Hayes class for their Irish Aid entry, certificates to the children in Mrs Carey s class for their Discovery Primary Maths and Science award, certificates to the children in Mrs Gill s class for their Bluestar award. You are very welcome to attend the ceremony at 2p.m. All classes will go on school tour on 21 st June. Children will receive notes from their teachers with tour details. Thanks to those who have already paid and we appeal to those who have not paid to do so before Friday 16th June. Permission slips will be issued with teachers notes. Please return them as soon as possible. Electronic devices are not allowed. Neither are mobile phones allowed under any circumstances. The school mobile phone can be contacted during the tour day on 086 0357645. Thank you in advance for your co-operation. Books will be collected from children who rented books in last year s Book Rental Scheme on 22 nd June. Please ensure that all books are in good order and ready for collection. Book rental will be available to all children from 3 rd to 6 th. Children in 6 th Class who have been members of the Book Rental Scheme will have their deposits returned before the end of the month. No further applications for Book Rental will be accepted as books have already been ordered. Anyone going on holidays before the end of term should ensure that their library books and book rental books have been returned. The children will perform the show Crecora s Variety Show under the direction of Mr. O Gorman on the 14 th and 15 th June. It is a simple production aimed at providing the children with the opportunity to perform on stage. The show will take place between 7 and 8 p.m. on both nights. In order to accommodate people as comfortably as possible, we are inviting the parents of the children in Infants through to Second Class to view the show on the 14 th and the parents of children in Third through to Sixth Class to view the show on the 15th. If you have children in both divisions, feel free to choose which night best suits you. Needless to mention, we need all children on both nights and I apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. Please have your child in school by 6.40 p.m. on each night. Many thanks for providing your child with suitable costumes. Mr. O Gorman has already distributed letters with costume details. We hope you enjoy the show. We are asking an entry fee of 5 per adult. We would like to use proceeds from the show to purchase curtains for the hall and lighting if proceeds allow! School uniforms are available from Carmel Burke. Crecora National School Newsletter Page 5 The girls soccer team travelled to Corbally on 3 rd May to participate in the second round of the FAI soccer competition. First Holy Communion took place on the 6 th May. Éamonn Andrews took photographs of the children who received First Holy Communion on 10 th May. Speech and Drama examinations took place for the children attending Therese Donovan s classes on 11 th May. The children in 6 th Class showcased their Bluestar projects on 12 th May. Boys and girls travelled to Ahane on 15 th May to take part in Cunamm na mbunscol hurling and camogie 12 a side competition. Children travelled to UL for Limerick City Sports Day on 17 th May. Three representatives from Fourth Class travelled to the Limetree Theatre on 17 th May to take part in the regional finals of the Irish Aid Awards. A student from Mary Immaculate College began teaching practice in Fourth Class on 29 th May. The girls took part in the Maura Hourigan football tournament. Upcoming Events The children in Junior Infants will receive vaccinations at the school on 6 th June. The girls play in the East Final of the camogie championships on 7 th June. The school show will take place on 14 th and 15th June. 6 th Class graduation Mass takes place at 7 p.m. on 19 th June. Children from Second Class will attend the Novena in the Redemptorist Church on 19 th June. Children are asked for 5 for the bus. The children in Junior Infants for the academic year 2017 2108 are invited to view their classroom and meet their teacher on 19 th June at 2.20 p.m. This is a short visit of no more than fifteen minutes. The school award ceremony takes place on 20 th June at 2 p.m. School tours take place on the 21 st June. End of Year Mass takes place in the church at 11.15 a.m. on 22 nd June. School closes at 12.15 p.m. on 30 th June. As we are coming toward the end of the academic year, I would like to thank you for your co-operation regarding library and C.A.P.E.R. I would ask you to check for any books which may have made their way inadvertently onto shelves! I would like to thank all those who have paid the required money for swimming, photocopying and insurance, bus trips, Irish, golf etc. and I would like to remind anyone who may have forgotten to pay to do so at your earliest convenience.

I would like to pay special thanks to all the parents who provided transport to the various and numerous sporting events throughout the year. Without them, transport costs would be prohibitive and could potentially deter us from participating in these events which are so worthwhile and which benefit the children in numerous ways.
