Yipee!!!...I won!! The Sports Exhibition organized during the Ananda Olympics The month of January was marked by the Ananda Olympics as the major event. Not only did we have sports events but we also had a sports exhibition. Various sports kits like Golf kit, cricket kit, Football Kit, etc were displayed for the children to see and learn about. The children all sat in the exhibition area and Ruhy Ma am from class PP2 explained how the various things in the kits are used and how to take care of them. The children took part in Events like 100 mt. race, long jump, high jump, and fun games like the three legged race, lemon race, etc. The children were wonderful while taking part in all these activities and enjoyed cheering their friends. Measure, Measure, Measure.! Dear Friend from me Page 2 This month the children have begun a new topic in Mathematics, i.e. Measurement. They have learned various non - standard methods of measuring length, weight and volume. They have been measuring everything around them like the class board, benches, tables, corridors. It s been fun watching them trying to measure things with various non - standard measures like handspan, footspan, matchsticks as well as straws. As a part of their language development the children have started a new exercise of writing letters to their friends every day. They have brought their own post boxes from home and they write letters to each other every day expressing their thoughts and feelings to one another. It is their first step towards independent writing and will slowly lead them further to creative writing. They will also be learning correct sentence formation though this exercise. My table is 5 yellowsticks long!! Send me a letter in my post box No.mine is 6 yellowsticks long!! They will also be measuring with weights using a balance, and volumes using containers of various sizes. A letter from Anish to his friend Hamad It has turned out to be a very fruitful activity and we hope we will be getting what we have set out to achieve. Page 3
