Chapter Number 0788 DIRECTOR S REPORT Well t seems lke I haven t been on my Harley for months whle I ve been n Quantco, VA. There have not been many free moments for rdng anyway. The weather and the scenery around here have been beautful. I have heard my brother-n-law has been makng good use of hs tme wth my bke. He s put some mles on t. Just keepng t warmed up for me for when I get back. Along wth everythng else I m learnng here at the FBI Natonal Academy I have learned there are a lot of Harley rders from all over the world. We have 28 nternatonal students who rde and several rders from wthn the Unted States. We have had a good tme tellng stores about rdes n our respectve states and hometowns. Some of us are talkng about gettng together n the comng year and maybe meetng at some of the bke ralles. What s great s the number of people you meet from around the world and the many open nvtatons they extended to stay wth them and ther famles. My Harley famly has really grown whle I ve been up here. But that s the way t s wth Harley rders. We are all famly and are wllng to open our doors and share wth other Harley enthusasts. The holday season s rapdly approachng along wth the cooler weather. I hope you wll all be able to get together wth famly and frends around the holdays. I was asked f I would serve one more year as Chapter Drector and I have agreed to do so. Wth that beng sad I wll ask once agan for volunteers to help carry part of the load n the comng year. If you have an nterest n a specfc area please let me know. If you are wllng to volunteer on an as needed bass that s great too! I look forward to another year wth you. We wll need your help. As the chapter gets ready for Thanksgvng and Chrstmas, remember our charty the SHARE House. Please help wth food and the Angle Tree. Please RSVP to me (rene@hdatlanta.com or call 770-944-1340) before December 7. Rene Durham, Secretary/Treasurer A Letter of Thanks I wanted to thank all of you for ths past two years. I have truly enjoyed gettng to know people and makng new frends. It has been an honor and a prvlege to be a road captan. Comng nto the club was hard at frst, because I dd not know one person and was jonng on my own. Many of the members made t easy to transton n and I am deeply grateful. I have enjoyed the rdes ths year and am very thankful for all the people that helped me and for the member s patence and partcpaton. It s great to have people to rde wth and hang out wth. We have had some awesome rdes and good fun. Last month one of our Road captans could not do hs rde and left t out there, No one really had tme to take t over. I made a couple calls and was rescued. Kevn and Harry asssted me. They made t a fun day. They helped wth a route, eatng place and the rde home. It was great to have them wth me and step up the way they dd. (Kevn earned hs road captan patch on ths rde.) Harry s completng hs requrements ths month. Yeah more road captans! It was cold and wndy and a lttle rany, but later the day was beautful I look forward to many great rdes, stores, and adventures next year. It would be great to see some old frends and meet new ones n the comng year. Happy Holdays, Dana Bodden, Road Captan Thanks Atlanta Chapter I just wanted to wrte a quck artcle to thank everyone n our chapter for ncludng Mchelle and myself. You are a very specal group of people. Mchelle and I have made some very good frends and hope to meet many more. So for those of you who haven t come to any of the rdes, or meetngs lately, we look forward to meetng you, and please come see us. The major reason I m wrtng s to share a very specal experence that I had. Mchelle and I purchased our bke n August of 2005. One of the frst people I wanted to share ths wth was my dad. Back n the 70 s I remembered hm havng an old Honda for a short perod of tme. I would magne he got rd of t because of other responsbltes. I don t remember hm speakng of t a lot, but I always knew how much he apprecated a Harley- Davdson. I often heard hm speakng fondly of my grandfather and the fact he owned an Indan after he came home from WWII. My dad seemed too long o own an Amercanmade bke. When I rode my bke to hs house for the frst tme to show t off, he asked f he could rde t. He wanted to be able to say he had rdden a Harley once n hs lfe. Well, of course you know he got to rde t. As the past year or so has progressed, he has spoken more and more about possbly buyng a Harley. A few weeks ago I receved a call from hm. He asked me to hold on for a mnute and then he asked me f I could tell hm what I was hearng. When he fred up the 2005 Softal Deluxe that he bought, all I could say was no doubt that s a Harley. Then I got the ultmate pleasure. Ths past weekend my dad and I rode from hs house to The Bullock House and ate some pulley bones and fred green tomatoes. Then we rode over Pne Mountan and showed off our bkes to a good frend of hs, who wll probably soon be a Harley owner. I count myself very blessed for the relatonshp I have wth my dad and the fact that God has allowed me to share so much tme and fun wth hm. I also pray for many more rdes wth hm. He s already suggested we go to Sturgs next year. He s also told me as soon as he gets more experence and feels more comfortable he wants to go on some chapter rdes. He lves a short dstance from where the new dealershp wll be and may even jon the chapter there. Who knows? Thank you for allowng me to share ths. Robert A. Conway, Atlanta Chapter Member

Ashevlle Fall Leaf Rde Recap On a cold Frday morn, a group of ntrepd travelers gathered at the pavlon for an excurson nto the mountans of western North Carolna. An 8-hour rde revealed some of what we would see and feel throughout our weekend as we traversed the north Georga, western Tennessee, and very western North Carolna! We stopped for lunch at the Rver s Edge Restaurant n the Nantahala Gorge. We watched as crazy people came kayakng and raftng down the rver n the frgd waters. I wonder what they thought when they saw the crazy people passng by on motorcycles n 40 degree weather? We thawed out n Arden NC as we enjoyed dnner at the Sagebrush Steakhouse and dscussed our agenda. It was there that a few rders unwrapped some 6-8 layers and we actually saw ther frozen smles! It was 32 degrees on Saturday mornng, as we met at the Plaza Restaurant n Fletcher. We regrouped, layered up, and headed north on the Blue Rdge Parkway. The temperature on Mount Mtchell was about mnus 80 degrees well t seemed lke t. The ccles dd melt from our eyebrows. As we progressed northward on the most scenc rbbon of asphalt n the country t soon became perfect for rdng. We were amazed at the colors, especally around the Craggy Gardens and Grandfather Mountan areas. Apparently the entre populatons of Ashevlle and Charlotte thought thngs were amazng. The traffc moved at a snal s pace. That s a good thng because everyone was able to rde more slowly and gawk at the beauty of the fall colors. Lunch was a lttle hard to acqure, snce the traffc nto Blowng Rock was backed up to somewhere n South Carolna. Eventually we found our way nto town about 3:05 p.m. Of course, most restaurants closed at 3:00 p.m. and reopened for dnner at 5:00 p.m. We found a lttle Mexcan Restaurant just down the street and a great lunch was consumed wth gusto. The rde back to the hotels was va the old detour of US 221, a very twsty and scenc rde just below the parkway. Here s a lttle sdebar for you detal people. Back n the 30 s, the owners of Grandfather Mountan ddn t want the Blue Rdge Parkway constructon rppng up the forested slopes at the base of the mountan. They blocked the constructon untl the Lnn Cove Vaduct was acheved. So, for many moons the traffc was routed off the Blue Rdge Parkway and sent along the narrow US 221 twolane for a dstance of about 14 mles. It took 52 years to fll n ths mssng lnk of the Blue Rdge Parkway. Ths was no easy task n a rugged and rocky terran! It was opened n 1987 at a cost of $9,000,000. On Sunday, we once agan found the temperature to be around 34 degrees and t made for a brsk, eye-openng start. NC Hghway 9 south from Black Mountan s another twsty road. It took us through Bat Cave, Chmney Rock and Lake Lure. The leaves were equally as mpressve as those on the Blue Rdge Parkway. As we ganed the Foothlls Parkway n South Carolna, green crept nto the landscape and the pace quckened and we searched for the day s lunch stop, whch was to be Aunt Sue s Country Corner. Everyone looked as though a nap under the mmosa trees would be n order but we wound our way toward Toccoa and Atlanta and home before dark. We needed to rejuvenate and map another trp to see the wonders of the earth as soon as possble. Thanks to Chrs and Dana for ther support and to the gallant rders who partcpated to make ths a memorable experence. Andy Andresen, Road Captan Shucker s Socal On December 14, come out to Shucker s n Vlla Rca for a Thursday evenng socal. They have great seafood and a great atmosphere. I decded to move the socal nsde for the next couple of months and I m hopng Vlla Rca s a more central locaton. If you have any questons or need drectons e-mal me or gve me a rng. I look forward to seeng everyone there.

(host hotels). It was a great party. There was a lot of conversaton about the day wth other people who had braved the ran to get to the rally. Lemmng was a very popular word of the day. Frday was flled wth rdes and meetng up wth new and old frends. Frday evenng s party was held on the deck at the Buccaneer wth a lve band (who dd a great job). Once agan lots of new and old frends. At 1:30am my frend and true dedcated HOG member Dana arrved n her truck wth her backup bke ( the Fatboy ) n tow. Saturday mornng was a lttle rough but part of the group meet up and the local gas staton and headed over to Golden Isles HD n Brunswck to watch a jet bke melt a Yamaha, nothng lke seeng hot flames on cold steel. We all headed back to the Island for the bker games. The nght went from the Low Country Bol to the Closng Ceremones to some of the group gatherng out sde at the hotel and reflectng on the weekend. I hope everyone that went had a great tme, f you ddn t go ask some of the people mentoned here about the adventure. Sgnal Mountan III - Overnghter Update Frends, as promsed, the Sgnal Mountan III wll be an OVERNIGHTER ths year. We wll do Sgnal Mountan, the Valley through Dunlap and Tracy Cty and end the evenng n Monteagle, TN. There are twenty nonsmokng and fve smokng rooms on hold at the Best Western Smokehouse Lodge n Monteagle, TN. The hotel s located 300 yards West of I-24 at Ext #134, about two hours from Atlanta. Each room has two Queen beds. The rate s $79.95 plus tax per nght. The lodge has a good BBQ/Ham/Turkey slcng buffet and a pavlon n the back wth green space and a fre pt. We can use as a gatherng place. For those wantng somethng upscale, I know of a chef owned place about 7 mles away. The rooms wll be held untl 10-27 under -HOG. Call the hotel. Make your reservaton wth a credt card and you re good to go. Call 931.924.2091... Steve Martn, Group Sales, he handled the reservatons. Please pass the word at the upcomng Chapter meetng on Thursday, October 19. You may contact me (678.427.2429 or steve.magel@shawnc.com) wth any questons.
