The class held on February 5 th is the only class held on a Sunday. All others are held on Saturday. Classes are nine hours. And yes, the class starts at 7:30AM. Lunch is available at the clubhouse. Pre-Registration Dates RSO Class Dates January 25 at 7:00PM February 5 at 7:30AM* March 29 at 7:00PM April 15 at 7:30AM May 24 at 7:00PM June 10 at 7:30AM August 30 at 7:00PM September 16 at 7:30AM October 25 at 7:00PM November 11 at 7:30AM * This is the only Sunday class. All other classes are held on Saturday. RSO Class Notes: 1. You must come to the club house on the preregistration night to sign up for the RSO class. 2. The class is limited to 16 people. 3. The class will not be held if less than ten people enroll. 4. At preregistration you will need: a. Identification. b. $35 CASH for course materials. If you have any questions call Butch Hartman at 301-928- 6338. 2017 Monthly Shoot Schedule The planning meeting will be held early January. Come by with your idea for a monthly shoot. Committee Chairpersons All committee chairs, and persons wishing to become committee chairs, must submit a request in writing to the President at the regular meeting requesting to be considered for a standing or ad hoc committee chairperson appointment. See the Bylaws, Article IX, Committees, paragraph b. Monthly Shoot News There will be a planning meeting on January 7 th at the clubhouse. Meet at 9:00AM. Provide your input on the type of monthly shoot you d like to see. We ll have chili and stew. Hunter Safety Class There will be three Hunter Safety classes offered in 2017. Dates have not been set yet. You must pre-register on-line before taking the class. Details will be listed here when available. MASS Archery At the January meeting, the IWLA-MAC "Mt. Airy Straight Shooters (MASS) Archery" subcommittee will be seeking club membership interest in the events planned for 2017. MASS will also offer instructor training to expand the core of volunteers. In particular, any bow hunters wanting to partner with our archery trainers for the new Archery Trade Association (ATA) Introduction to Bow Hunting class should see Don Sherwood or Laurie Ansorge. The archery committee is also planning a club shoot on the new MASS equipment. This will 'equalize' the fun. Last fall Stick won the unofficial shoot off after classes were held! December Monthly Membership Meeting General Membership Meeting: 1/30/2017-7:30pm Held December 19, 2016 Old Business 1. The skeet houses are ready for roof installation. 2. The dues notices have been sent out. If you have any questions please call Al Ansorge. 3. Steve checked that the berms can be reconfigured as long as the backer dirt stays on the range. New Business 1. There were two new applicants this month: James Hoffman and Michael Koehnlein II. 2. Three new members were voted in this month: Tom Chatfield, Timothy Cressman and Nate Heine. Orientation will be held January 14. 3. Daniel Colella has asked for hardship help with his dues this year. The board approved. 4. The treasurer has filed taxes. 5. Re- registration for charitable status was completed by the treasurer. 6. Reminder: Close all gates behind you and spin the tumblers. The front gate was left open with the combination showing.. 7. The Boy Scouts camped out for three days, December 16-18. They also had a good time shooting. 8. Some club property is missing and appears to have been borrowed. If you ve borrowed items please return them. The storage room will be locked with a limited set of keys. 9. MASS is planning training and a club shoot on the new equipment. See the information on page 2. 10. A trip is being planned to the NRA museum in Fairfax. See the information on page 4. 11. Turn in your money for the calendar raffle at the next meeting. 12. There is a vacancy on the Board of Directors. A vote at the January meeting will fill the position. Four people have been nominated: Justin Sanderson, Michael Koehnlein, Sara Duley and Frederick Diven. The term is until the next full election. NRA Museum Trip MT Airy IWLA is planning a trip to the NRA Museum and lunch at Willard's Barbecue. This will be a fun filled day. When - March 18, 2017 Where will we meet - The club house at 8:00 AM. Depart at 8:30 SHARP We will need a RSVP so we can have an idea as far as transportation. Cost - none if we car pool if we have a large enough response we will get a bus and that will be the only cost. Lunch is on you. Range Rules Note that these range rules are still in effect until further notice. The new range rules have NOT been implemented. 1) Do not lock the gate when using ranges, just close the gate. 2) Do not block the range road with your vehicle. 3) You MUST have your range badge on your person and displayed. 4) You must sign the range use log and you must use your full 6 digit badge membership number. 5) You must enter all guest names into the Range Use Log. Names should be printed and clearly readable. 6) You must pick up your brass, other trash and remove the targets from the backers. 7) Only paper targets no larger than 24"X 24" can be used except at 200+300 yards. 8) Shot gun pattern use only on pattern board (to left of the clubhouse before the pine trees) 9) On the pistol range, NO SHOOTING CLOSER THAN 10 YARDS. 10) On the rifle range, NO SHOOTING IN FRONT OF THE BENCHES. 11) Willful destruction of the ranges will not be tolerated. Shoot only at targets on the backers. 12) Pistol Range: During a cease fire DO NOT TOUCH any firearm forward of the red line for any reason. Open actions, make sure that the firearm is unloaded, stand behind the red line and do not touch any firearms. 13) Rifle Range: The RED FLAG identifies a cease fire situation. During a cease fire DO NOT TOUCH any firearm forward of the red line for any reason. There are possible members setting targets that you may not see. 14) No alcohol will be consumed before or during shooting. 15) At the archery range, only shoot field points at the club target. DO NOT SHOOT ANY FIREARMS ON THE ARCHERY RANGE. 16) No rapid firing at any range. Rapid fire is faster than 1 shot every 4 seconds. 17) Member s Guests: It is your responsibility to monitor them the entire time he or she is on chapter property. You must supervise your guest while they are shooting. Members are not to be shooting while the guests are shooting. No more than three immediate family guest or no more than two non-immediate family member guests permitted at any time. Be Advised Violations of Range Rules numbered 1 thru 8 constitute a policy and procedure offense. The following corrective actions will be taken: First Offense you will be sent a written letter of reprimand Second Offense you will be required to submit your range badge to a chapter officer and will be required to meet with the Mt. Airy Chapter IWLA Executive Board before your Range Badge will be returned. Violations of Range Rules numbered 9 thru 17 constitute a policy, procedure, and Safety offense. The following corrective actions will be taken. All Safety Violations will result in the loss of your range use privileges. THERE WILL BE NO WARNINGS. Your Range Badge will be pulled. You will be required to meet with the Mt. Airy Chapter IWLA Executive Board. December 19, 2016 Volume 25 Number 10, Page 5
